Hello, my son left Dec 14 too, I yet have not heard from my son, only his box and his letter with address. I cant hardly stand it! I miss him so much, I wish I could just hear from him even if it was just for a minute. I didnt think it would be so hard, he was gone to college for a year but I could always call him whenever. This is the hardest thing Ive ever had to do, I have such a great son and im so happy for him but yet so sad, I find myself crying alot, the holidays where horriable without him home, his recuiter said we could spend xmas with him most likely , ha,ha so not true.

Hello ladies! I totally understand your frustration. My daughter (18 yrs old) left to boot camp on November 8, 2010. when she left i felt a million and one emotions. I had to endure Thanksgiving, Christmas and now New Years Eve without her. When she left, she called teh night she made it to Great Lakes to let me know she'd made it. I didnt receive another call until about 4 weeks later. You must remember their weeks are not the same as our weeks. The go by 5-4 (which is 5 weeks 4th day) Im not sure how they are coded but "we" are about a week ahead of them. So it could be close to 4-5 weeks into to boot camp before you get a call, however, it is on track with their week count. (Go figure). The time goes by so fast! I will be heading to Great Lakes on Thursday (1-6-11) to attend her graduation on 1-7-11. The time has flown. Though I have truly missed her, I am so proud of her and her accomplishments. One thing that your son/daughter will greatly appreciate is letters and cards. I write my daughter every other day and send her cards on the opposite days. She receives mail from me just about every day. She tells me when she calls and in her letters to me how much she appreciates me for writing her as much as I do. She says she hates when her shipmates gets no mail and doesnt want to feel that. So I sent the cards to keep her encouraged and used the letters to say what I needed to say. Just remember they are going through as much as we are and they need all the encouragements that they can get.
