Navy For Moms

Well it won't be long now and my son will be coming home from his first deployment. I have a ton of emotions rolling around in my head and lots of questions to go with them. My sailor is not based on a carrier and will fly back to his permanent duty station with his squadron. He has asked us to come to the homecoming but since he is flying into the base I'm not sure how it all works. Does any one have experience with this type of a homecoming? How do we get on the base? Will his superiors contact us? We normally stay in Navy lodges when we go see him but he won't be there to sponsor us so will we have to stay else where? My son was not attached to his squadron prior to his deployment so he did not receive any predeployment info. So he really isn't sure how this all plays out either. He just knows that when they return to the states it's a big deal and really would like for us to be there. If anyone has any knowledge about this please share.

Navy 08 mom... contact his squadron's Ombudsman. They will have all the information you need. If you don't have the Ombudsman phone number, go to the squadron's website and you can most likely find it there. My daughter is also with a squadron, but it is a strike fighter group and hence she is onboard a carrier during deployment. She gets off the carrier in SanDiego and then flies back to NAS Lemoore on a military plane.
