Hotel recommendations for early to mid September time frame

Hi Everyone,  I am planning on being at  PIR in September, God Willing,  I am starting to research hotels, because I want this to also be a mini vacation.  What are your recommendations.  I have seen two that are right on the lake, however, worried about distance to PIR.  Also what is the weather like in September?

Thank you in advance!!!

The navy lodge is close to the base. Very reasonable price. A little dated but very clean. Breakfast is free in the morning. located close to the saloon for the meet and greet with sarge. I recommend that you do that on Thursday. Great information about PIR and a chance to meet other families with sailors graduating the next day. Hope this helps. The feeling you experience on PIR is like no other.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on 611 Lakehurst Road.  About 4 miles from the base.  almost a straight shot to the base.  There are lots of stores and places to eat around there.  there is a bowling alley behind it.  On PIR day  they had free hot dogs and chips and drinks in honor of the new grads.  You can also watch the graduation in their lounge on tv if you had to.  The service was great and I think the cost was reasonable.  We had 2 queen suites and they had a refrig. and microwave.  There is an indoor pool, hot tub and fitness room.  Also we could use my pc in the room with free wifi.  The breakfast buffet is very good with lots of choices to eat and it is free. You can ask for a later check out time also.  The check in time is 3 pm but you can ask for an earlier time also which we did. They will   print out directions for you to restaurants if needed.  There is a walmart about a block away.  The weather can vary in September.  Usually we have a warm Indian summer and a little cooler at nite.  Bring a lite jacket and not too heavy clothes. They also let you decorate the room doors for your sailor.  Hope you have a great time wherever you decide.  Also the Gurnee Mills Mall is about 15 mins away and places to eat.  We ate at Rainforest Cafe because my son wanted that.  It is pricey but a very unique place to eat. The food is very good and we took doggie bags back to hotel.  They do give 10 % discount to sailors and a free meal to sailors on graduation day.  I would suggest making reservations to avoid a long wait. Yolanda
