Wow was that hard! I was having such a good day...I had only cried one time...then the box came! It was so hard to see his stuff, yet at the same time, I held his things and felt closer to him.

I have been writing letters every day...I will keep it up...I keep getting told that the letters are the most important thing to them while they are there, and so its important to bring a little home to him.

Thanks for all the comments and advise...I love hearing from people who have been in my shoes and can give me some insight on things. So...will the letter come soon to tell me about his graduation date? The box came in only 3 days.

Thanks again!

His recruiter was pretty much useless to Nick...he didn't prepare him for his shipdate at all! At MEPS, they were all talking about his recruiter and then Nick was told that he really set Nick up to have a hard time at bootcamp. There was sooooo much he wasn't told until the day he was shipping, he didn't know that he should know the Navy creed, he wasn't told at all how he should approach an officer, he learned that the hard way. He lost alot of his paperwork....it just wasn't a good experience at all...so...what I was trying to get to was that I don't know his division #, and I don't wanna ask his recruiter anything, because I just get the run around. SIGH....
Thanks for joining in my celebration! ha ha Its the little things that mean alot, right?

My husband left Monday and I received "the box" yesterday as well. I went out side to go check the mail and there it was on the patio. I sat on my patio chair and just stared at it for a little while. My kids were in the house playing and I've been trying not to cry to much around them so I decided not to open the box until they were in bed. However, my in-laws came by to visit with the me and the kids and my father-in-law saw the box, that I had left on the patio. He convinced me to open it because he was curious as to what was inside of it as well. Of course inside I found his clothes, his shoes and some paperwork AND to my surprise I checked his pockets and I found a little note from him! It melted my heart... and thank God my in-laws were there because I think I probably would have broken down into tears when I found the note... instead I smiled :) I can't wait to get his address and so I can start sending him letters. It's the little things that I look forward to now!

It seems that maybe my husband and your son arrived in GL at the same time... We should definitely keep in touch!

Awww Abby...I cried when I read your post....I know exactly what you mean...I sat in my truck after getting it from the mail. I know it sounds crazy for anyone else, but I just smelled his shirt and cried! I was home alone, so I didn't care! Actually, I needed to be able to 'let it all out' because I havent been alone enough to really do that either.
I will let you know all his info when I get it so that we can see if they know each other.

Thanks so much for posting....I love hearing from others who are in the same situation...don't feel like anyone really understands how hard it is unless you are going thru it.

He shipped out from Ft Meade in Baltimore Md

I know what you mean... everyone around me has advice and they're all offering support but I feel like they can't truly know how this feels because they're not living it themselves. I appreciate they're love and advice but I really feel like the women I have met on this site can really relate to me and this experience. If I want to cry... I know it's okay... if I miss him each morning I wake up I know it's natural... their are hundreds of moms and wives going through the same thing. It's great to get info. from the ladies on this website and to be encouraged by their news.

From what I've been told we should be receiving a letter in the early part of next week with his PIR date and his address... I can't wait! Let me know when you receive yours!

Thanks for the information JessicaB-Sailor Mom I didn't kow that... I'll call his recruiter today!
