It has been six days and I miss my son so very much.  I agree with most when saying I am so proud of him but so sad to see him leave.  He as a kid was very active in sports therefore we spend hours together.  He even allow me to be involved during his high school year...taking pictures of all the guys and helping with feeding the football team every Friday afternoon.  He has never been away from me for more than 10 days so this is very hard for me.  If I hadn't liked him so much or been so involved in his life this whole experience might have been easier for me.  Go Navy...and I look forward to a letter and next phone call.

If you scroll to Page 9, you'll find a week by week description. If you have received your form letter, you should join the Navy For Moms PIR group associated with your son/daughter's PIR date. The PIR Information Reference group has lots of good info for those planning a trip.

At the end of the discussion, you'll find hints on navigating this site. By the way, a link to the survival guide is in a welcoming comment from Navy For Moms Admin posted on your personal page (yes, each member has one). Simply click MY PAGE above.

If you follow all the links and read everything. Many of your questions will be answered. The RTC Family should be printed out for quick reference. Be sure to save the form letter, at least save your password on your cell phone, hard drive, etc. Keep a binder. Good luck.

Your story sounds a lot like mine....I had hard a time too but my son is now petty officer third class and doing well in the navy...it's been over two years now. So proud of him ...all I can say is you raised a great son...write him often and enjoy every minute with him when he gets leave! You will be fine and your son will make a fine Sailor!
