missing my boy and only three days in.

I hope this gets easier because as of now I'm a mess. He's only been gone for three days. I keep on thinking what he is going through in boot camp. He's in Chicago.

Hang in there!  It's so hard!  My son has been gone 1 week today.  I got my letter today.  His clothes in the box yesterday.  Something to look forward to!

You will have a lot of different emotions as the weeks go on. Soon you will receive your first phone call and then several other phone calls that will get you through. I didn't believe that I would see a change in my son after graduation from boot camp, but I did.! I saw the beginning signs of discipline, time management and concern for dress appearance when out in public with his uniform. He had pride in himself and I had pride for him and his decision. The unknown is frightening but take courage, many have gone before him. When you see him graduate from boot camp, you will be so proud of what he has accomplished. Write him as much as you can so you can still feel close to him. Once you go to graduation you will see that it has been worth it. Hang in there, it will get easier!

Be sure to forward your home phone to your cell phone so you don't miss any calls!  Your son is doing great, I have no doubt.  A good book for following along on their day-to-day activities is this one you can order on Amazon - it'll set your mind at ease.  Honor, Courage, Commitment: Navy Boot Camp  Some things have changed but it's essentially right on.  It really helped me to be able to visualize what they were doing.  My son enjoyed boot camp and his letters were great, one had the word "cool" about eight times LOL.  Graduation (Pass in Review) is unbelievable, I hope you'll be able to attend.  This is a good group for that: PIR Reference Information.  Welcome to the Navy family!

Thank you for the ones that are supportive And I know it's better than alot of other places or situations he could be in. I'm very close to my son as well as you all are, I'm sure. Thanks Marcy for your kindness.

I'm a single mom of an only child and we're very close, so believe me I can relate to what you new Navy moms are going through right now!  It's going to be ok, but I know how hard this separation is for you.  My son's been in since August '07 and he loves every bit of the Navy.  Boot camp really isn't that hard on them, it's a lot of learning and drilling but it's not some scary thing at all, and they're making friends from all over.  They come away with great stories and you'll hear all about it.  So just remember to breathe, cry when you need to and be sure to send plenty of upbeat letters with happy news from home :)

Hang in there it gets easier. It will be ok. Just think of the great commitment your son has made. I just got 3 letters from my son yesterday and see the change that has already occured. He sounds great and I'm sure your son will be the same. Yes,I still cry but it gets better. Just keep yourself busy and the weeks will go by quickly and the next thing you know it will be graduation. Hang in there:)
