Got a question for the mom's that have been to the BC ceremony. How quiet is the ceremony? I have a 3 year old and i would love to go to my son's ceremony but i'm afraid she is going to be a little too noisy depending on how long the ceremony lasts, and if we can't attend is there some place we can watch it or be there otherwise we'll have to wait at the hotel in which i'm not wanting to do. Also, i've seen some pictures of the ceremony and wondered what the dress code is if any. Son graduates 11,Mar 16.

thank you,

It is very loud at times. Check out a livestreem between now and your recruit's PIR date and see and hear for yourself and then decide (of course you control the volume on your computer, but cannot control it at PIR). The RTC will stream PIR live at http://www.livestream.com/usnavyrtc and http://navylive.dodlive.mil/ beginning at 8:45 am CST on the day of PIR.

The actual ceremony is 1 1/2 hours long. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/grad_day.html for the schedule for PIR.

Are you and your three year old on the Access list? Both of you must be listed by your recruit in order to enter the Drill Hall, otherwise you might be able to go to the Chapel and watch the Livestream there. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.html.

There is no dress code for PIR, but consider that your Sailor will be in Dress blues and you will want to honor him by looking nice. I suggest dressy church wear or business causal and comfortable shoes since you will be doing a lot of walking. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

I attended two PIR's in the last 6 months for both of my sons.  Would not have missed them for the world.  Plenty of families there with small children.  They do sit for a long period of time, so I would suggest packing snacks and something to "entertain" your 3 year old.  I saw lots of cell phones, I pads and other electronics being played with .  Seemed to work for most.   It wasn't a very quiet atmosphere.  To be honest, I didn't even notice what was going on around me- just focused on my new Sailor so I wouldn't sweat it :)

thank you for your replies this helps a lot, i'm not on the list right now b/c of the decision of bringing my daughter in or not, but the other 2 he did have on are now not going to make it so her and i will take those places. I believe he still has time to change the whose coming list.

NalaLucy, make sure your recruit knows who to list on the Access List because only your recruit can change the names on the Access List. If you are not on the Access List, then you will not go into the Drill Hall for PIR. Write to him and let him know the names of those who will be able to attend as they should be listed on the Access List when he submits his names. He submits names 3 to 10 days before PIR and can change them up to 24 hours before PIR, but it is best that the names are correct when he submits his list the first time.

How can i find out if the Chapel will be open or not for viewing? My son's (birth) mom and brother are going therefore I will be forced to either to stay at hotel or try and watch from the Chapel with my daughter...not happy or excited about this but i'll do what i have to do.
