My son is Ship 11 Div 396 PIR 10/18,  I am concerned because his recruiter gave me Ship 11 Div 340 which was wrong and I mailed something to that Div.  I just hope he still gets it.  I received the letter on the 10th day.  I thought I would never get it.  Then tonight as I was cleaning up after dinner I was surprised to hear his voice on the other end of my phone.  He was able to call me.  Apparently he was really homesick so they allowed him a 5 min phone call just to hear our voices.  I briefly spoke with his RDC and he told me that they are taking good care of him, he was just really homesick.  I tried to be strong for him, but it is hard when you want to make things better and you can't.  The RDC said he should be able to call me again in about another week and he will have more time to talk.  My son said to just write to him as much as we can because he will need the support.  I have already sent 4 letters to him and tonight my husband wrote to him and his brothers.  I hung up the phone and lost it.  I was doing better and things were getting easier and now I am a mess all over again.

DIvision 340 is also on Ship 11. That division has PIR on 09/06/2013. What will happen is that any letters you sent to that Division will first go to Division 340 and then go back to the mail room where someone will either return the letter to you or will look up the correct info when s/he has time to do so and the letter will eventually be delivered to your recruit. It was nice of the RDC to give him that morale call in order to lift his spirits.

Hi this is bluewater. Let me just say I know what you are feeling. My son is now at Pensacola for A school but he did say the letters really helped him while he was in bootcamp. I can say it will get better for you and him. :)

Awww, DavidsNavyMom, I know how emotional it can be to get a call like that. However, think on the bright side that he in fact is being taken care of since you yourself spoke to your son's RDC... That right there is a blessing! Didn't even know that was possible! Regarding the letters, yes, you must try to write & mail him a letter every single day (you and/or family members), this 'guarantees' he will have a letter everytime they have mail call and he will definitely look forward to it... Be supportive and encourgaging (even if you're crying your eyes out while you write!).

Sending you and your son lots of positive vibe & peace... ~Hugs~
