My oldest son leaves on Thursday 4/3/14 and I'm already having a hard time holding back the tears. He's so excited and I'm so proud of him. It feels just like the first day of kindergarten....putting him on that bus and watching it drive away and knowing life will never be the same. He suddenly seems so mature and has worked hard to get ready for boot camp. I've been reading a lot on the website and hope that we've done all the right things so he has a smooth start. The website has been so helpful and I am grateful for the mothers before me who have taken the time to share with us.

Sending prayers and well wishes your way today and forever! I promise it does get easier! My son just celebrated his first year in March! He's becoming a man, while learning to be a Sailor! Come on this site for support!

He will be fine.  You should receive a phone call from him with a few days.  My son said the first few days, they were up for 42 hours.  Just remember, it's going to be a call that lasts seconds so don't be surprised.  Also, it could come at any time so have your phone handy.  It's just a call to tell you that he's there.  I got to tell my son that I loved him and then they cut him right off.  They don't want them to get emotional.  It does get easier and I promise you, you're going to be shocked how fast the time goes.  Maybe not for them, but for you.  I'm now in week 6 and I can't believe it.  I haven't gotten a phone call now in a couple of weeks but that's okay.  I'm sure they're keeping them pretty busy now that they're wrapping things up.  Hang in there and keep me posted on how you're doing.

Eve....I just dropped my son off at his recruiting office.  Very tearful good - bye in the parking lot.  What I wasn't prepared for was my husband's reaction.  He lost it and he's usually a very strong person.  My husband, daughter and I all cried the whole way home.  I hugged him tight and told him I love him and I am proud of him.  I will be thinking of you and praying for your son.  This is a great website and I have already received lots of support from experienced Navy Moms.....so glad you're here.....hugs!!!!!!!!

Eve, you're a better person than me.  I couldn't go.  I had my son's father take him.  I was afraid I would embarrass him and myself.  If I can help either one of you get through this difficult part, please let me know.  I thinking about both of you.

Oops, I meant to send my ost to KemMom.  Sorry!  At work; trying to multi-task.  I'm thinking of both of you!

KimberlyShip......we said our good byes in the parking lot.  Started out inside the recruiters office but decided to go outside while his recruiter got organized.  Our son wanted to just make it simple.  he didn't even take his cell phone with him.  Now I'm counting down till PIR at the end of May.  God bless.

KemMom, my son didn't take his cell phone with him.  I'll bring it with me to PIR.  I'm thinking about you.  If you're out of state, they'll fly him out early tomorrow morning and you should hear from him on Thursday some time.  Keep your phone close.  Just a quick FYI, you should be getting his clothes in a couple of week or so.

KemMom, I'm sorry, I just read your entire post.  I'm so sorry for what you're going through.  My heart is breaking for you.  I understand this being too much.  You will get through it, I promise.  I'm here if you need to talk.  Please take care of yourself and be sure to get plenty of rest.
