Well, it may not be an appointment to the Naval Academy but ....

When I first read the letter from the Naval Academy Admissions Board I couldn't seem to get farther than the first few words, We are pleased to notify you that the Admissions Board has selected YOU..... OMG, how excited I felt and my son was clearly pleased as well (but of course had his teenaged coolness prevailed). Once I got past the first few words I realized that he had NOT been accepted into the Naval Academy as a "direct admit," the term used for those who attend the Academy directly out of high school without having to do any additional studies at another college/university or prep school.

Instead my son has been selected to attend the Academy's prep school which when he completes successfully it WILL lead to an appointment to the Academy. The Naval Academy Prep School(NAPS) is one of the many little known jewels of the Navy as it is one of only a handful of sources that directly contribute into the commisioning of Naval Officers. We know that this is his opportunity to get all that he needs in preparation for earning his college degree at the Academy. Thank you Lord so much for this wonderful blessing!!

Thanks Mamma Mary & Leslie. Wow, Leslie, we may see each other in Newport!! Thanks for your encouragement and sharing your sons experiences. Wow, a nineteen year old youngster he is young!! lol You're so right about that extra year to get stronger, wiser and bigger (already 6'3") to handle to pressure of Plebe summer. My daughter did NAPS so we realized this was a blessing in a neat disguise. Plus, I love the New England charm and beauty there. Thanks again for your optimism and encouragement.

Hi Sherry, Just wanted to let you know our neighbor's cousin went thru Prep School. He did a year there, and then went to the academy. He tells me he was so glade he did. While it was still tough, he said he felt a bit more prepared, and a bit less pressure when he got to Annapolis. Michael is doing well, and graduated for Annapolis (I think about 4 years ago??) and was a great source of insipration these last few months while we were walking Scott thru the last few steps. We had asked our Blue & Gold officer about it, and he told us that they will still have that year toward their degree, and they can pursue beyond while at Annapolis. When does he leave for Prep School?
