I received my first letter from my S.R. daughter just yesterday and this will never stop being so strange and emotional for me. I was like a kid, I read the letter 3-4 times. I knew I would miss my daughter just never knew this would be such a rollercoster  ride. I've made arrangements to stay at the Comfort Inn in Waukegan, but have not read many reviews on pros and cons of the hotel.  Anyone that has had an experience there, please let me know. Money kinda tight and I need to make good decisions on this one. More so My S.R. daughter has a small 12lb. dog I've thought of taking with me, she would be sooooooo surprised. Any pet-friendly hotel????? This may be a tall order of questions but any responses i would so appreciate. Every one have a blessed day

Last September when my son Ben had his PIR we stayed at the Quality Inn. It was nice for a few days. They had breakfast downstairs every morning. That was really nice when it was the morning of PIR and had to be there so early. If you have a car while you are there, try to go down to Chicago and visit the Navy Pier. You then can walk from there to downtown Chicago. A really nice visit.

We are going to stay at the Red Carpet Inn about a mile from base for PIR 7/15.  They have a free shuttle to the base that day.

We went to PIR back on October 2010 and we made the best choice to stay at The Navy Lodge which is very close to the base on the main road approx 8 minutes away plus they give you a discount if you let them know that you are going to the PIR for us it was $65 a night and they're staff very friendly and informative, they also have a Breakfast n Go Bag which came in very handy the morning of the PIR.The place and rooms are very comfortable and clean most have a small fridge and microwave and they also have larger rooms with a small kitchen. There is parking on site and playground and picnic tables very family oriented. At booking you need to give your Sailors Name and Rank ex: E2 E3 convinient to PIR and when is time to drop of your Sailor very close also there is a Nex that you can get a discount card from lobby and is in a very very safe area. I would definet stay there again. Reservation# (800)628-9466. I hope this helps to those of you searching on line you have to enter Navy Lodge Great Lakes

Also is close to the Train Station next to the base which that train takes you to Chicago only thing the parking at station is very limited so you can get a cab there shouldnt be to much and leave your car at the lodge. We didnt use the train we drove into Chicago but that could be long depending on traffic approx 1 hour no traffic
