As far as I know, only recruits can add names to the guest list. Each recruit can only have 4 people at their PIR. The next time you write to your son, tell him to add his sister's name to the list. I'm sure you can also call his recruiter to see if they have any suggestions. Sorry, I don't think I'm very helpful. hahaha
Hey Kate, I am not real sure what the test was...I think it was a written test...I didn't get the impression that it was a PT test...don't really know...sorry. Yea, I guess 4 guys failed, I heard that div 043 had the best scores. I haven't been on the group yet today...maybe someone knows more about the test. He said getting his teeth out was not bad, he thought the shots were worse...especially the penicillin shot in the butt. He said that his butt hurt for 3 days. I think Evan tried to call today...I couldn't hear him...I think he could hear me because he stayed on the line for a minute. He tried to call home 2 times then he called my cell phone 2 times, all from the same phone. I answered my cell both times, but could hear nothing....sooooo frustrating. When I got home there were 2 messages on the machine...but no actual message, or at least nothing you could hear :( :(
Hi, Kate! I'm so glad you got a call from your son! I think I know what you mean about your son sounding a little different. I can't say my boyfriend sounded a little off (I mean, I could tell he's sick), but I think I know what you mean. I hope you're right that their PIR won't be pushed back. Have you finalized your plans?
Yikes. Three hits on inspection and the graduation gets pushed back 2 weeks?! I am going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that never happens to our recruits! My boyfriend's written a total of 6 letters so far. I'm pretty proud of him, for that, since he was never one to write stuff. haha! His mom and I are also counting the days. 44 more! Right? I see his graduation as a type of reward for me, because my fall quarter ends in 2 weeks, then it's winter break, and even though winter quarter starts the same week of his graduation, it seems more as a reward. So I have this one-track mind. Finish finals, then graduation!
I'm staying at Red Carpet Inn. It's cheaper than Ramada - I've been working extra hours just so I can afford airfare! - so that was the way to go. It's also very close to the base and I've read pretty good reviews on it. I really hope I can make it somehow to the meet & greet at the Ramada. Will you be going? What are your plans? It would be a wonderful chance to meet you and all the wonderful moms/wives/fiances/girlfriends on here.
Kate, I am familar with West Bloomfield as well. I have 4 boys, Evan is my oldest. My second son, Kyle was a patient at Maplegrove, which is at Henry Ford West Bloomfiled. So we many trips out there.
Well, I should say that my family, as well as some people from this site are staying at the Ramada. The Ramada is where they have the meet & greet the night before for families attending graduation at GL. But people are staying at all different places. I think the Ramada and the Navy Lodge are the two mostly mentioned on this site. We will be leaving on Thurs. to arrive in the afternoon, hopefully, and then relax, attend the meet & greet, go to bed early and prepare for early morning and eventful day on friday. At the Ramada you can change your resv. anytime before the day of check in...so if something were to happen, I figure I can change...but I wanted to make sure I had rooms there...we have more family going, so I needed to reserve 3 rooms.
Evan will stay at GL for A school. He is going into Advanced Electronics Computer Field (AECF).
Hi Kate. Sorry I have not replied sooner, I guess I need to check my page more often. Yes, my son is ship 03/div 045. We live in Chelsea Michigan, which is about 15-20 miles west of Ann Arbor. I think that makes 4 of us in div 045. There is also Meilin and Kelly.
Have you made hotel arrangements for PIR? We are staying at the Ramada. Where will your son go for A school? What is his job/training?
Dear Kate,
How wonderful. Don't misplace this. The Form letter now is all updated. It used to be a graduation package mailed on the fourth week. Now it just combined everything.
That's cute, he kept his sence of humor with the "HAHA" Great.
Now, remember, just in case, when you recieve Brian's long letter, probably next week, it may sad. Don't panic. His letters will become more uplifting.
It takes the recruits a few weeks to adjust to everything. Anything new is hard! HAHA!
Now you write to him all you want. He may even call you in the next two weeks. You should have something like 3-4 phone calls before he graduates.
Thank you for your compliment. I went through all this last year myself. Boot Camp is scary for us moms! HAHA! Many moms here helped me through it.
Please stay in touch.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
Dear Kate,
How are you? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
We all hated that box, it does leave an empty feeling inside.
The first week is all processing, and getting everything they need, uniform and what ever else. They all see a doctor and the Navy dentest as well. The second week, I beleive starts the program of training and exercizing.
Here's what to expect. You have the box, so sometime next week you'll receive the Form letter. Don't misplace this. It's now combined with graduation information. It will have your son's address along with the Division and Ship numbers.
On the back should be a couple of sentences from your son. You'll have some relieif seeing his handwritting.
Around the third week, you'll recieve your first long letter from your son. Warning, it may be sad. Don't panic if it is. His letters will get more uplifting.
You may even get a phone call the following weekend from him.
Once the recruits get into the rountine of Boot Camp and over being homesick, they all like Boot Camp, beleive it or not.
It's the moms having the nervous breakdowns! HAHA!
Boot Camp isn't as horrible as us moms picture it.
Please stay in contact with other Navy moms. I'm here everyday, Together, we'll help you thorugh Boot Camp....we haven't lost a mom yet! HAHA!
Please don't hesitate to write.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
hi kate my name is colleen my son has been gone now for 2 weeks from this past wednesday i miss him so much he is at great lakes i just got my first letter and it made me cry he is 26 years old and has never been away from home please keep in touch he is graduating dec 30th where are you located i am in texas fort hood/killeen area let me know thanks and barbara is wonderful
The recruiter told my dtr-in-law that date. We are still waiting for the official date. It seems everyone gets the letters at different times. I wouldn't be worried.
Thanks Barb for your warm welcome to Navy for Moms. My son Brian arrived at basic last Wednesday and today we received his box. It was sad to open it and see all the things he had taken with him in the box, but I know he is where he wants to be. We are waiting for his first letter so we can find out his address. Been missing him this last week has felt like an eternity since I last saw my son. I have been searching the internet trying to find out what he is doing in the second week of his training. If you or anyone else can give me some insight into the training process I would apreciate it. Thanks again, Kate
