I guess the grad n go is because they are so stacked up with incoming new recruits. They seem to be backlogged everywhere. I sat beside a lady, on the plane from Great Lakes after PIR that worked in the kitchen at Great Lakes. She said that they graduate over 800 kids each and every Friday. Because of the economy they are enlisting like crazy plus they have re-enlistees due to the economy so that creates this domino effect for not having places/things for them to do. However, if they can stand the boredom they are getting paid to do not much of anything and we know they're safe. Like I told Joanne, the N4M that I met in PNS even though it's good that our sons are pretty close to us now it makes it boring for them. Her poor son's roommate is nearly done with his schooling so his liberty and restrictions are much different than her sons who is on hold for his schooling. For him, she said, it makes it hard for him to mingle to make new friends that are doing the same thing as he is. Justin, I guess was lucky, because his roommate was in his BC and is on hold doing the same thing as Justin.

Hi Deb. We just got back from PNS last night. It was our 2nd trip in 3 weeks to see Justin. I'm hoping you want honesty here, because that's what I'm about to give you. PNS is no Great Lakes. In GL the naval housing was pretty nice and really nice all around the base. Well PNS isn't at all like that. It's sort of run down around the bases. There are different bases (we didn't know that until we went there). We've been at the Naval base and Corry Station. However, I can tell you that our kids (in IT) sure do seem to get extra priveleges. Justin says it's because they are a small group plus they are the 'brains' of the outfit. I say this because we met a friend that I'd made on N4M that her son and mine were buddies in BC and they are now in different bases in PNS. Nick (her son) had to still be in uniform as he's still in Phase I and they both PIR and got there 1/30/09 (grad n go). Nick has to be back on base by 10pm but Justin by midnight. Nick couldn't even have his dad in his room. Justin could-but none of us girls. Justin was given permission to have his car, even before he hit Phase II (which he just got to last Weds.) So it's pretty weird that they're all so different. The PNS is beautiful. It's on the Gulf of Mexico and boy is that where the wealth is. I couldn't even imagine how many millions a house there costs. Everybody we've come across in PNS has been very friendly to us-even when we didn't have our son with us. We went and saw the Naval Museum this time and it was awesome. I'm sure your daughter knows, but she shouldn't ever venture off campus by herself. It's just not the best looking area there (it could be worse but it's not the greatest). Corry Station is pretty nice though. Everything they need is there. Justin's buddy Nick and his family came to the NEX there because they heard it was nicer. Also the kids rooms are decent, my husband says. He says it's just like our hotel room. Our son still hasn't started his IT schooling. They had him raking for 7 hrs straight the other day. But, now since he has his tv, xbox and car, it'll be better for him. I hope that helps. Let me know if you'd like to know any more.

Hi Deb. Yeah since I wrote that to you Andre wrote me and called his grandmother because I guess he was having problems getting through to me. He is fine thank God. His sinuses are bothering him a little but other than that he is fine. I did not recieve the pack yet, however I did make reservations at the Navy Lodge because I know the PIR date. I also held a rent-a-car because I am driving and I am praying that the weather holds up for those days. Keep in touch. I bought a Navyformoms.com t-shirt to wear to the graduation. On the back I am going to put Andre is my sailor. I have to represent. God Bless.

Hi Deb, Andre went to Reading HIgh School. Andre is now 21 years old. I always had his daughter also. Now I have totaly custody of her. Andre will be going for IT in Pensacola. Maybe we could meet one day since we are so close and our granddaughters are the same age. I have not heard form Andre yet but another mother that is from California and her son is in with Andre said she has not heard from him by phone or mail yet either. So we wait patiently. No offense but it makes me feel good to know if a girl (your daughter) said she was fine that then hopefully my little tough man will be fine also. LOL Let's keep in touch. Tracy

Oh that is terrific, tell your son I said OOHRAH & Semper Fi. Now that he will be USMC make sure you guys go to Washington to see "8th & I" OMG most amazing thing you can witness. It is the President's silent Drill Team. If you guys ever go, you need to get tickets months like 4-6 mths prior. You want to make sure you get the last show of the season. The Commandant of the Marine Corps. speaks, the dog is there any many more important people.

You must be very PROUD. Brett was heading to Marines and I sd know way but guess what if he went there I would support him anyway. I was an Adjutant and liasion thru Washington for our Young Marine Unit on our base. Very cool.. As for my child, he trained with SEAL's but chose to do SWCC. (also Special OPs) but it was full when he arrived, they gave him a choice to stay & wait but then he would be wasting good learning time. He is doing AE and is in GL still awaiting his orders to Pensacola. They just told him he has to have his Wisdom Teeth pulled before he is able to move. Ok so is this something you would like to work on with me (Reading Phillies)??? If so I will talk to the Admin and lets get this moving! Did you get a shirt yet? Look at my site and notice the Navyformoms Addicted shirts. I am selling them. My number is 267-767-7083 or during the day 800-601-3401 wk, please tell them your a Navy mom (my calls get blocked) lol.

Just wait for your daughters PIR, tissues & camera only necessities.

Hi Deb,
Thanks for the message. You're right: it helps to have other moms to learn from as I navigate this whole adventure! I really appreciate your thoughts about the cell and snacks, as well as the website. Take care and hang in there!

Hi Deb,
I've been thinking about you and Jenna and wondering how you are holding up? Have you heard anyting from Jenna yet? Jillian has been gone 8 days now and so far I got the "arrival" call and the box. No form letter yet....but I did call her recruiter for her address so I've sent her about 6 letters so far. I hope I get that form letter tomorrow. How long did it take you to receive it? And have you gotten any letters from Jenna yet?

Hi Deb, I just asked your question ... in the chat room (a good place for info) and most said that the time you get to spend with them is different for everybody depending on when your sailor is leaving for further training etc. Anyway that was the best I could do. :) Mary

PS: how old is Jenna if she is the oldest? My Jill is 20 and that seems to be a couple of years older than the average age I'm seeing here.

Jillian will be going to Pensacola too. But for AV. Isn't it funny how many coincidences you and I have. I just got a call from her at 9:45 and she was still in Philadelphia and just getting ready to board the plane! And she left at 3:00 yesterday afternoon! I'm sure its been a very long day for her and its going to be an even longer night. What a way to start off - fatigue right from the get go. Oh well, maybe she'll catch a few winks on the plane and in the bus going to GL (its like a 45 minute drive from the airport too). I have read a bunch of stuff on boot camp on various different websites (military.com) and I'm pretty sure I've seen the videos you mentioned. I am probably more educated about boot camp right now than Jillian. But not for long. I guess the next thing will be the "Box". I'll definitely stay in touch and please you do the same. I hope your daughter is starting to adjust.

Hi Deb,
I am not far from you. Bethlehem Township. My daughter just left yesterday for MEPS and will be flying out to boot camp TODAY. So it seems your daughter is just about a week ahead of mine. So unless your daughters P-days stretch into more than a week, I don't imagine they'll be in the same division. Too bad, that would have been nice. But please do stay in touch anyway!
