Hi Cheryl,

I'm doing great- you? Just getting the last minute arrangements in order. We're flying out early Thursday so I don't know if we'll get the call or not. I am hoping to stop by the meet and greet if all goes as planned. Have a great trip, and I guess I'll see you there!

Hi Cheryl, I am checking in on you! I know you have got to be excited....Please pack some warm clothes and comfortable walking shoes. Don't let those piggies get wet. I did not realize parts of my body could get so cold when our Sailor graduated. We were in GL this time last year. His PIR date was 12/19/08, is that wild, one day off from your date. Again, my heart is with you. Make sure you get the DVD of his PIR and his Keel (yearbook). That was so much fun watching and looking at with our Sailor when he finally came home. Take care and be safe. Keep me posted. This is one trip you will look back and be so glad that you were apart of it. God bless you and your Sailor. Bravo Zulu!!!!!

Hi Cheryl, I was hoping for a call on Thanksgiving but didn't get one. I heard from Michael a week ago Wednesday and that was it other than I received a letter from him today. All is well based on his letter. I think that they are getting really excited that graduation is just 20 days away. Time is going by quickly for Michael and I think he is thrilled to be coming home for 10 days. How are you holding up? Patrice

Hi Cheryl: I know you have had a hard day. Even though it has been a year I still cried today while I was preparing my T-Day Meal. This is one of our Sailor's favorite meals. I have been thinking about you and I know you are counting down the days. We are so excited for you. I know exactly how you feel. Just wanted to say hello and hope you have had a good Thanksgiving. God bless and be strong.

Hi Cheryl I'm so sorry in not responding to anyone till now, Work has kept me so busy Ive not had to much time for anything else pretty much, that might have been a blessing in disguise these last three weeks though! LoL
I'm sorry to hear about your son being sick, any word from him in the last few days?
As far as where we stayed while we were up there last year ( Ramada )....
But this year we are staying in the Gourney Mall area @ the La Quinta Inn...
.We seemed to be down near the Mall area a lot last year, so we thought why not just stay in that area..? My Older Son who PIR'd last year Feb 13th, also said that he had been there a lot after graduation and it is a really good place... I didn't ask why he was there so much after graduation~ HMMM??? LoL But they have a nice Indoor Pool, hot tub, Continental Breakfast, nice beds and bedding, but the thing that got us, was, we are going be there with a handful of 20 somethings, and having 7 restaurants within WALKING distance, hooked us in ....Joes crab shack, Olive garden, Outback Steak, I Hop, Cracker Barrel, McDonald etc. and being that it will be over the "New Years Eve" weekend this will give them plenty to do at all times of the day and night, they can just go themselves to do something in the Mall area, its really nice down there. It's like a 15 minute drive back to base....
We are getting So excited now, Michaels Girlfriend Bethany and I are shopping up a storm to get things for the CHICAGO TRIP~ YEAH
Michael seems to be having a slightly nicer experience in Boot Camp than his Brother Tom, he called twice already! Toms Division were rarely alowed to call! Michael Really thinks highly of his RDC's said they funny and smart guy's... He had his wisdom teeth out this past Tuesday, No problems with that at all, thank Goodness....
He called Friday night and said Boot Camp is getting much more exciting now, he sounds like he is so happy and positive. Said his Division is great! Supportive and team oriented...Said that they will be doing some shooting soon...that will be fun for them.
Captains cup is coming up, they will have fun time with all that competition.
But he said tests and inspections are the order of the day..No problems so far.
His rate is Air Crew...And he cant wait to get down to Florida and get as he put it...... Get all my shit back.... LoL

Hi Cheryl, I am so sorry about your Sailor being sick. Our son was sick also. He said that it is called the Ricky Crudd. To top it off we did not hear from him for about three weeks when he was in BC and I kept reading the Navy for Moms website, "Boot Camp" page, and was following everyone and reading what was going on. Some Sailors were sick and some were having wisdom teeth extractions, I told my husband, I bet the reason why we had not heard from him was because they were removing wisdom teeth. Sure enough when he called that is what had happened. They had extracted two of his wisdwom teeth. The Navy does not want them to go out on the boat and have any problems so that is why they do that. My heart was broken because I was not there for him. He said he got along fine but alot of they Sailors had been real sick with colds. He will not be on a boat, he is connected to a plane in Whidbey Island, WA. PR works out of hangers. If needed they will go on a boat, but as of right now he is working very closely with a P3 (airplane). He is getting the equipment ready for the planes to depart, he said that planes leave there all the time going different places. We stayed at the Navy Lodge on base. Our room rate was $64. per night w/ two double beds, Continental Breakfast, it is a very nice property. Keep in mind all Navy Lodge room rates are the same and they are very nice. We rented a car from the Midway Airport, cheaper and easier to get in and out of. We also felt like our Sailor would like to go off base and eat. Wow you are really getting closer to your PIR date, I remember the feeling. Make sure you pack his cell phone and your lap top if you can. This will at least give him a chance to call his buddies and check his email on his computer. It will amaze you the difference you see in him when you get one on one with him. It will really make you smile. Take care and keep smiling & be strong....you will not be disappointed! Thinking of you often. God bless your family and your sailor. Keeping you and your family in our prayers. Hoping to hear from you soon!

Hi Cheryl,
When I talked to Ted this weekend he said he could leave after 4pm that day, as far as he knows right now. We're staying in town for the weekend because he wanted to see a little of Chicago while he was threre, so we'll stay til Sunday. Did you get a call this weekend?

Hi Chery: Sorry getting back to you so late. I have been on overload at work. On the subject of PR, the best definition would be under Aircrew Survival Equipmentman. While in school they go through 9 courses, 3 courses of "Common Core" skills over 19 days, 3 courses of Organizational-Level skills for 17 days, and finishing with 3 courses of Intermediate-Level skills for 19 days. The first week is sewing, dubbed by students and instructors alike as "Combat Sewing". Students will manufacture a "rigger bag" completely from scratch and will learn about tool control and FOD management. The next course is NB-8 parachutes, where students will learn basics of parachute rigging, inspection cycles and nomenclature. This is followed by a course of general survival equipement named ESE. Then "O" strand begins with Survival I Fixed Wing, followed by Survival II Rotory Wing, where students learn inspection and maintenance concepts unique to squadron level work. The final "O" level subject is Survival Radios. "I" strand will start with NES-12s, the Navy's most complicated parachute system, for advanced rigging concepts. Seat Survival Kits and Life Preservers finish out the entire course of instruction, where they will graduate upon completion. Classes average to about one week per class.

During the entire time of study students will undergo physical training at least three times a week, be subjected to rigorous inspections every Monday, and will march to and from the building, being accountable for showing up on time, cleanliness, and homework.

Our son graduated on 12/18/08....in Great Lakes..he did not take leave, we visited with him after graduation on Friday then he left for Pensacola. He graduated from "A" school on June 18, came home for two weeks and now is in Whidbey Island, WA. He is really enjoying that area. If you have anymore questions I will be glad to help. Keep in touch. The "Navy for Moms" has been a blessing to me and my husband. Keep you head up, it will not be long before you get to see your sailor. Make sure you get the video of the graduation and his yearbook. That is something that Scott really enjoyed looking at when he came home. God bless our Sailors and there families.

I have made reservation at a hotel I'm just not sure what we're doing I dont know if will be staying in GL until the 2nd or If Cate will fly home with us after graduation then fly to A school. I'm alittle confused because I was told by the public affairs office that Cate had to fly back to GL then to San Antino for A school. I have seen some post saying that the sailors fly from home to their A school :-/ confusing hahah I'm hoping Cate will be calling soon so I know what she wants to do.

Cheryl,

What I got from the call is that we needed to purchase a ticket home after PIR and he would be home for 2 weeks, then we needed to purchase a ticket to San Antonio so he could be there by 1/3. He also told us to walk onto the base b/c it's easier to get clearance. He suggested taking a Taxi, but I found the Ramada has shuttle service, so we're staying there.

Cheryl that is really glad to hear that the division as a whole is doing well. I also had one 3 minute call for information and this was over a week ago. I pray for the next call. I just want to hear his voice - there are times during the day where I get so tortured over not hearing from him.
