Morning Tatiana, what a coincidence! Briana (19) had 5yrs of Spanish in school- did not take a shine to it, mainly because she had no choice in the matter, it was the only language offered in Gilroy schools at the time. But, she decided to teach herself Italian this past summer by using library materials and listening to Italian opera. We are considering a language course (Rosetta Stone?) for her for xmas because she seems to be doing well at it.

Darby (16) has been studying French in school (finally the high school got another language course) and REALLY likes it. We're considering a language course for her, too.
She's the one who has helped with my french phrases on my posts- MY french was at Catholic grammar school and my german was in high school- back when we rode horses to get to class. :-)

When I was home-schooling them, we used a Latin course- but mainly for the word origins. Altho we COULD conjagate(sp?) a few verbs. TTYL!!!

Hi Tatiana,
I'm glad to hear that your son is doing so well on the Ike. That has to make you feel relieved. From what my son has told me they have a great group of sailors on that ship. I have never heard him complain about any of them. Not bad considering it is like a small city and they are stuck with each other in such confined quarters for so long. lol.

Exiting times in Philly lately huh? My daughter's boyfriend (a sailor attached to the Truman) is from Philly and she has never showed any interest in baseball before but suddenly she is wearing Utley jerseys and watching all the games. Sure hope they win!

Hi Tatiana! I see you just joined the Ike Family group ~~ Welcome!! Not too much going on there right now. But we can get pretty chatty, especially during deployments. I'm looking forward to getting to know you on the pages here. Has your son been with the Ike for very long? My son joined it in March of '07. This will be his 3rd deployment.
Hope you don't mind me reading the other posts below. Spanish was my major in college (a long, long time ago - lol) and I even lived in Spain for a while. But I get very little chance to use it here in Ohio. So, as they say if you don't use it you lose it. Ha Ha.

Hello Tatiana,
I don't know if you remeber me but I live in Reading. My son's PIR was 12/5/08. He is still in Chicago waiting to go to FL and from what he tells me as some have mentioned here that they are on hold. How did everything go at your son's PIR? Congradulations!!!! Did he change at all?

Hi Tatiana,
Your son's situation sounds exactly like mine. He PIR 11/14/08, now in Pensacola waiting for school to start this summer. As long as they are safe and being trained and constructive, I'm happy for them.

Hi Tatiana,
Wow, you East coast girls are burning the midnight oil tonight! Just wanted to drop in and wish you a Merry Christmas, congrats to your new Sailor, and say thanks for doing such a good job monitoring the BC posts and dispensing accurate info. I have actually come to the decision to retire from my post after 6 months as a vet. Think it's time to pass the torch. =)

I'm going to see the PIR Jan 02 batch through, then fade into the distance. I've already pulled back some. I think you, Allison and Judy for starters, maybe Jaime when she gets back, along with many others have it well covered. I'll drop in from time to time or come and find me if a clarification is needed, or a mom is especially extra hysterical and emotional or needs some one on one. Seems to be my special niche.

I need to concentrate on some neglected home projects, plus I'm going to step back and focus on the 900 Div Group (less traffic there, more misinformation) and the DEPPER Group, see if I can help head off some of the lack of info and good decisions (sometimes by Recruiters) that lead to Recruits getting in trouble while in BC. Also might be working with the Sailor Rescue Group more, who knows. I'll see you on the Ship Shape Group though, stick with us, keep that eye on the prize! :-) Have a wonderful Holiday! God Bless!

Tatiana,
Thank you so much for your help today. I called and booked our room at the Navy Lodge. They didn't have one with a kitchenette available for 1/29 - 2/1 so we'll microwave or eat out. I feel much better about PIR now that we have somewhere to stay. YOu're an angel. Congrats on your new sailor. How proud you must be :)

Thanks,

So only Navy personnel can stay at the Navy Lodge I'm guessing. It's kind of hard to judge on a map on a computer screen how far away the hotels I'm looking at are from the grad hall. I just want to find something close by but not too expensive and I'm severly directionally challenged. So hopefully when it comes my turn to drive I don't get us lost. We have a GPS. My husband uses it when he goes hunting. Thanks for the idea about bringing it. That'll really help. Thanks for the advice about the clothes too. It gets really cold here in Utah during the winter, but I'm sure it's nothing like Illinois.

Tatiana,
I just read one of your comments on the boot camp page. You said you stayed at the Navy Lodge and that it was pretty inexpensive. We are trying to find the cheapest way possible to get to PIR. We're probably going to drive all the way from Utah. I've never heard about the Navy Lodge. Do they have a website? Whatever info you could give me on it would be really appreciated. Any tips to make it as easy as possible. I saw that they open up the gates at 6:30am. What time did you get there? and did you have to wait a long time to get in? Do you have to be military personnel to stay there? My husband is Utah Nat'l Guard and we all have military id's except for my mom (Megan's grandma) My daughter Megan's PIR is 1/30/09 :) There is light at the end of the tunnel!! Thank you for any help you can give me. I'm really stressing out about getting all the arrangements done soon.
Megan's in div 911. I've been told it's a performance div and she may be doing something like color guard or flag carrying so I'm going to make it to PIR if I have to sell my left kidney to get there :)
