I talked to Justin a few days ago and all he could say was the end of the month also. He's going to take a few weeks leave again when he gets back and come home for a little bit.
Norene, I am sorry to hear they will be leaving. But it will wonderful to be closer to home and to be able to get to them more quickly. Then you will be able to get in some good "spoiling" time! Stay in touch...things are always changing! Take care of yourself, Genia
Justin flew to Georgia yesterday. I talked to him last night and he is happy to be there. Had a great visit with him. I saw a man rather than the boy I sent off to boot camp. I am so proud of him. I'm hoping to visit soon, but he doesn't know if or when they will be at sea so I'll have to wait until he has a more definite idea before I make flight and hotel reservations.
Hi, Norene! Our trip to KBay was wonderful! We had a great time with Chad and with a couple of his friends. We all went to Ft Stewart and saw a concert and fireworks. Great weekend! We just came thru there again August 14 &15. We were in Charleston SC, then Savannah, for our Vacation, and got to spend time with Chad again. He has been working a lot and taking courses, too. He can't wait to get back out to sea! He really misses it! He drove home this past weekend, we went to his Grandmothers (dad's mom) memorial service in SC. It was painful, but we enjoyed being together with family. It was good to be with all the other relatives for a bit. Hope you and all the family are doing well. I will try to get better at getting on the computer! Talk with ya soon! Genia
Having a great visit with Justin. He is home until September 4th and then he's driving back. First time he's taken a vehicle with him. Son #2 is going into the Marines and bootcamp will be in San Diego. Justin's not sure whether or not he will be able to attend and will probably be out to sea.
Justin has always had a baby face. I love that about him. He is 21. He says MMFR is machinist mate first rate. I think that will change once he gets to his destination.
I hate you won't be able to come down, too. I know you would love to get your hands on the baby! We hope to meet a few of Chad's friends, so we might run up on Chris and family. Just looking forward to seeing him again. I am so pleased that he is so excited about us coming down. It amazes me! Good luck with the job. I know at the Credit Union where I work, we have a hiring freeze, frozen salaries, trimmed back on benefits, cut back on 401K matching, and now they've added Saturdays (never in 24 years have they had us open to the public on Saturdays!) with no extra pay. It has truley
been a rough year all around. Hope your upcoming changes will work for you. Take care, talk again soon! G
Hi Norene,
Congratulations on the birth of your baby granddaughter. She sounds like a big healthy girl, too. You must be so excited. I'm looking forward to being a grandma some day. I look forward to seeing pictures of her. I know they get bruised during birth some times. My daughter had broken blood vessels in one of her eyes, from her birth.
Sounds like more good news for your soon, too. That is wonderful that he made his MM 1st class. Glad that he gets shore duty to be closer to his new family for awhile. Great that it is working out for everyone.
Will is doing great, we are all enjoying spending time with him. He gets to be home for 2 weeks. I'll close here for now. Talk to you soon.
Glad to hear the news about the baby. You must be so proud. Tell Chris congrats on making 1st class oh and the baby to. I sure hope that he get shore duty so he can be closer to his family. Have a great holiday weekend.
Hi Norene,
How is everything? Is your new grandbaby here yet?
Will just called and we will be picking him up at the train station tonight. Just got a phone call from him. They pulled into port today. Can't tell you how relieved and happy I am. Also surprised he gets to come home right away. Hope all is well, JoLene
Hi Norene,
How exciting it must be to soon have another grandchild. Hope your son gets shore duty for awhile, to be with his family. That would be rough to have two long tours in one year. Sounds like it is not the norm, thankfully. I don't know how they plan their tour of duty in the sea. This is still so new to me.
Please let me know what she has. Would like to see pictures too.
Hi Norene,
Good to hear from you. We have been receiving emails from Will, but of course no details. We do not know where he is or when he will be back in the US. I've read blogs on the internet, but I don't know for sure what is going on. He seems to be in great spirits. Talks about working toward earning his dolphins and that he plans to take a physical for dive school, in July. He seems to really like the Navy and the men he works with. I'll let you know when they make it to the US.
So does this mean that your son will be with the new crew to take the USS Florida back out? How are his wife and children? How are you doing? I hope that you have had a great day and Happy Mother's Day. Hope all his well.
Thanks for the compliment for my son. Your son sure is handsome, also.
I'll be in touch
Hi Norene,
What a difficult situation for you son to be in. Completely understandable that he would want to be home with his family and new baby. Those guys sure do deserve some time on land to spend with their families. Heartbreaking. Sounds like he must feel torn. Is it causing you a lot of stress?
Hey Norene - thanks!
It's sounding now like there was probably no sub involved, but the SEALs were aboard the Bainbridge, maybe a 100 yards off. Looks like after dark, Phillips was allowed to get up to relieve himself over the side while one of the bad guys had an AK-47 on him in case he tried to jump overboard. The SEAL snipers, who presumably would have been tracking all the people on board through thermal imaging equipment through the plastic walls of the lifeboat, had clear shots on each of the bad guys, and put a bullet simultaneously through each of their brain stems. Gotta love those guys...
Norene,
A deployment is when a ship or a squadron leaves it's home port to go work elsewhere. Most deployments are to go out and do readiness training, some are overseas to train with foreign military. But you can also have a deployment and stay in the states - my son's squadron used to deploy to Nevada for training.
Hope this answers your question - if you are looking for something more specific let me know!!
Anna
Hi Norene,
Thank you for you support and kind words. Yes, my son is on the Hartford. I spoke with him and he and the rest of the crew are fine. We were suppose to be able to see him in May, but it is possible their return might be delayed.
How is your son?
