Sue:
Thank you so much for the offer! You must be going on a field trip? I can't think of anything that he might need right now, but thank you so much for the offer.
Colleen~ I was just reading and saw that your son is in San Angelo..Texas? I will be going there on Monday Sept 28th! I will make a point of bringing him something if you would like... I'll borrow a car if I have to!! (Taking 40 kids from Amarillo!)
Colleen, I'm here in Pensacola,Fla... If he is at the NAS as you drive in any gates they give you a visitors pass or they just let you go through...But you have to show your drivers liscense...And I'm thinking it is the same way at Cory Field too...Keep-in-Touch...THERESA
Hi Colleen,
No pass needed. You just stop at the gate and give your Sailors name. It does help to have the building # so they can direct you. Have fun!
Hi Colleen - was this the 12/16/08 graduation? From the snow on the shoulders of these sailors it looks as though it might be. My son graduated on 12/16.
Just a quick Howdy, hope things are going well for you. How is Tom doing down in Florida? Seth is still "cold" in Illinois but doing well. Take care and God bless you!
When Jared grad Aircrew, he moved to the otherside of the base and then he was back to Phase 1, he seemed to move up quickly - I think it was maybe a month or so and he was Phase 3. He now has everyday off from 5pm-10pm unless he has duty and then weekends off from Friday 5pm til Sun 10pm.-unless he is on duty. If you are going to be there a weekend that he is scheduled to be on duty, they can switch around and trade with someone else.
I just left a long post, but I don't see it. Sorry if this is a repeat. We fly into Pensacola Regional, Its a small airport, you can also check Fort Walton, about a 45min drive but the prices are sometimes alot cheaper. We have flown, Air Tran, Continental and US Air. No direct flights we go Den-Atlanta or Charlotte-P'cola. The Navy Lodge on Base is cheap and right on the beach, I think its like 69.00/night. Hampton Inn on Pensacola Beach is WAY NICE, 129.00/night feel free to email me, christy@billsharp.com, what is Tom doing in P'cola? Hope all is going well, Blessings - Christy
Hi Colleen, Please feel free to email directly, cadams@billsharp.com, and we can exchange last names and talk more in detail what our guys are doing. Pensacola is a smaller airport, we normally go Denver - Atlanta -Pensacola. We've flown Airtran and US Airways. I think only Northwest, Continental, American, Airtran and US Airways fly into Pensacola. Yes, it is the regional airport that you will fly into. Check the Airfare into Fort Walton Beach as well, Its a 45min drive or so, but sometimes the flights are alot cheaper. Let me know if you have anyother questions. The Hampton on Pensacola Beach is VERY nice for the money. Only 20 min or so to the base and lots to do within walking distance. We also have stayed on the base at the Navy Lodge which is also a nice beachfront location but pretty basic but very reasonably priced. Not a whole lot to do around the base, mall and bowling that's about it. What is Tom doing there? Jared is waiting and waiting, but has recently been promoted to chief sanitary engineer (empting garbage)! Oh Well, Blessings to you - Christy
Hi Colleen! Hope all is well with you also! I have never been to the Panhandle area myself but know there is an airport in Pensacola that many airlines fly into. It may be cost prohibitive though. I was doing some cost comparison and was looking into Mobile, AL (about an hour) and Biloxi MS (about 2 hours away), too. From Orlando all are expensive. Someone told me I should check into Tampa or Daytona to fly out of instead of Orlando. It's supposed to be 6-8 hours away (depending on who you talk to) so all told with having drive to the airport, get there 2 hours early, etc., it may be "faster" to drive. Most of the flights out of Orlando change in Atlanta so then you have to worry about making connections, etc. I really wanted to go this weekend as it is a long weekend for me but I just couldn't get it all together. I hope mid-March.
When do you plan on going? Spring breaks will start soon and Pensacola is supposed to be a popular place to go. Has Tom started school yet? Tyler hasn't and it's getting frustrating for us both! How is Tom doing?
I know he will go nuts! Is he in student pool now waiting to go over?? That's what Sam did to. She did call today and said she will get her badge on the 18th Yea!! She was very happy so now we just have to hope that there will be a class starting soon so she can get going! It's been a very long wait. The Navy has not been what she expected at all, it's been very hard on her. I guess if they told our kids everything about the Navy they wouldn't join!! Tell Tom that Corry is very old and the rooms are not as nice as they are for Aircrew so he won't be so dismayed! Corry is about 5 miles down from the air base so he can still keep in touch with the buddys he's made there. I think that helps.
Talk to you soon!
Tammie
Hi Colleen,
Just read your comment on the Corry Station page. My daughter is at Corry to. She was an Aircrew but had fractured both of her feet at BC. She reclassed to CTT and is still waiting. She has been in P'cola since Oct. 7th she has learned patience!! They have to wait for the "Badge" before they can class up it could take months we are finding out. Sami liked it much better at the Air base and says that Corry is awful compared to it. So tell your son to have patience this might take a while.
Sami cleans every day, I told her that she could run her own janitorial service when she gets out!! She didn't think that was funny but I got a kick out of it!!
Well good luck! Take care

Hello Colleen, glad to hear Tom is doing well and likes Florida. I hope Tom finds what he wants to do, I'm sure he will there are quite a few options and anything computer related is a plus anymore. I know about the cell phone and Seth will soon have a laptop also. Seth couldn't wait to talk to his friends here at home but I am fortunate that he likes to call home and talk and let me know whats going on. We usually talk more during the week. His weekends are pretty busy and anytime they can take advantage of liberty/play time they do. I have talked to him on Friday's and then usually here from him on Monday. He doesn't have full liberty yet and hasn't been off base much but if weather allows he likes to be outside or they go to the NEX building. All in all I think he's enjoying himself.
I have been pretty busy also and haven't been on the site as much either so I can relate. Pray all is well and thanks for getting back with me. I know Tom is going to do well he seems like a neat young man. Take care and talk to ya soon.

Hi Colleen, I am glad there is someone else out there that can relate to my situation!! Not that I wish it on anyone, but I see all those moms who say they talk to thier sons everyday, I am lucky to get a call once a month, and I usually have to be the one to instacate it. I am very happy tho, that he is doing so well. AnytimeI talked to him he seems to be busy and happy, so I can't complain!! He seems to be doing very good in the navy. I do see his bank statement when it comes to the house , and I know he is using the computor down there, but I don't ever get an e-mail!!......It is a good thing that they will let Tommy pick another job, I hope he will be able to get something he likes!! I just don't think those boys realize how much a mothers heart aches to hear form them....but as long as they are doing well, I guess we should be happy huh??
Just wanted to say hi and see how things are going. Is Tom getting settled in Florida? What's he think about the weather? Seth is tired of the cold but dealing with it. I was missing him a lot yesterday but he did call in the afternoon so that helped. Pray all is well and God Bless.
