Tanya my son is currently deployed to Qatar. It is about 2 hours by plane from Iraq. I joined the Group Anyone with Sailors in Iraq or Afganastan. They have a lot of info on the site. My sailor contacted us within the first week to let us know he made it ok. (I think he was gone 4 days when he called.) He usually calls about once a week using a program through Skype. He calls to our house phone from his lap top. He just called again yesterday. In the beginning he was working 7 days a week 12 hour days. He worked over a month before he got his first day off. So he sounded run down and tired. Now he sounds good. With yours being in Iraq this could all be different. Best Wishes for you and your sailor.
I am so sorry to hear that he was miserable on his birthday. Please let me know if I can do anything to help. Isn't it funny how our big boys are willing to let mom 'baby' them when they are sick???
How is your son doing??? If you think his package won't arrive in time I would be happy to drive over with a cake! My son also had his wisdom teeth out with the Navy when he was in California. They gave him a set of pills and told him to stay in his room. Thank goodness his roomate took pity and brought him soup. He really did not feel like eating for the first day or so. Then was able to get to the galley for soft foods. They grow up so quickly...
Your son is most welcome to join us on Christmas Eve... We live about two hours from the base. My son is stationed at Whidbey also. He is attached to VAQ 137. Let me know! Susan
I'm finding out so much information, ( I don't know If I need to know .. SOME of it ! ) lol but overall, I've met and talked to so many great Mom's that it is very helpful ! I'm so glad i got on N4M's. Thank You. Just imagine how we are going to feel when we are waiting to see our son's after 7 or 9 months,... and they are on their way home !!! I can only imagine~
Luv You, Nay
Tanya,
I just joined the Washington/Oregon moms and I saw your profile. I live in Fort Worth and our sailor is stationed at Whidbey Island. He has been there since April and just loves it. He is a storekeeper and has been in the Navy for almost 2 years. He is not coming home for the holidays, he wants to save up his leave time to come home in the summer. Our first Christmas without him in 28 years, but that's ok.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Don't hesitate.
Stay in touch,
Kate
Hi Tanya,
Thanks for adding me as a friend, I could really use some right now. He left for Boot Camp Yesterday and I am just a big ball baby. He has been with me every day for 18 yrs and now he is gone. I know it's for the best for him though. He is going to A School right after he is done in Port Hueneme, Calif. Which is actually where we are from. Again thnaks for the add.
Thanks for the great ideas!! I sat in his room last night and just looked around and got ideas on what to do when he leaves. You know how teenage boys are and his room needs a good cleaning. So I ordered a new bedspread and curtains and will paint while he is gone. When he comes home he will have a new room. We are planning on taking him to the station the day he stays in the hotel and will take him to dinner that night. And I do plan on attending the swear in. I wouldn't miss that for the world. I know it will be hard but I'm enjoying what time I do have right now. Maybe someday we can meet and have lunch. Just a thought. What is Ryan doing in the Navy? Do you hear from him often? Has he been able to come home for a visit? Talk soon.
With me being in Grand Prairie I guess we aren't that far apart. How did you make it through boot camp. I don't know if I can not being able to talk to Michael will drive me up a wall. I will miss him deeply. Any pointers?
Dear Tanya,
How are you doing? Thank you for writing.
That is a great position Ryan is getting into, I wish him the best.
Kim is learning to read the radar. I know there's more to it, I just remember radar!! HA HA!!
She said she hopes to go to Australia. Like you wrote, anywhere is good, as long as it's not Iraq!
Her class was informed though, when they finish A School, 27 names will be picked and flown to Iraq. I'm trying not to dwell over it. I keep it in prayer every night.
Anyway, so far Kim loves the Navy, Praise God.
I'll let you get going. I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
Barbara
