Donna,
I dont know why I didnt get your last reply to me, it usually notifys me when someone leaves a note on my wall. Whats up with your son? I see that he selected Corpsman school. Good. I know its not easy to watch your kids grow up and leave, especially out into the BIG US Navy.. but each of us have to find our own way. Tell him to study hard and not follow the rest of the guys downtown for a night of .. well, fun when he could be studying. There is A LOT to learn in school. Both Sailors and Marines will be depending on him. :) Tell him thanks. God Bless and dont worry.. its all good.
I'm sorry to hear about your son's DOR. I know he may feel like he's failed, thats understandable.. but its ok - he's NOT a failure. At his age things seem so absolute, for us parents we also think they are absolute too..but they arent. He can push the detailer to try to give up some more jobs that may be available. You have to remember - its the "Needs of the Navy", even though they try to accomodate the individual. It also depends on how far he got into bud/s, AND what he scored on the ASVAB. Many factors go into what longshanks will bring to the table for him. Tell him to take a DEEP BREATH... RELAX...(you do the same)... things Will be fine, trust me. They will NOT just put him on a sub. You must "qualify" for this duty, and the qualifications are very high, along with the mental stress tests and everything else they go through. My best friend Martin went this route and ended up on "Boomers" (SSBN's). Right now its raw reaction time... calm him down and try to help him understand that his life will have many paths and many turns.. many unexpected - yet wonderful and exciting. I'm sorry he didnt make it through bud/s, but trust me - its is truly not the end of the world and he will see that. He can contact me anytime if he'd like to talk.

Dear Donna, I so sorry you are about to feel the real absence. I stil cannot get over it. I miss him everyday .I also understand the lack of money to travel around to see him. Please remember im here with you , feeling and going though the same thing ,,we all are .xoxoxox until then , Barbara
I grew up in Cheltenham Village and only left it for two years when I was first married. Our first house was right off of Cottman Ave. in line with the drive up to the park. Hasbrook Ave. - isn't that right near Josy's Hair Hut? I always get Hasbrook and Shelmire mixed up. Anyway, Burholme Park was always like an extension to my back yard...walking the dog, going to Ryers Library, taking the kids to the playground. Good memories!!!!!
Hi Donna. I haven't been on here as much since we can talk to Tommy now. We all made it to PIR. They didn't even check names just stamped our hands and we were on our way. It was great. My brother looked great. all the guys did. Then Tommy was able to leave around 6 that night till the 4th but he went back on the 2nd. Tommy has decided to wait to do the seals. He hadn't practiced on of the types of swimming they do so he wants to get good at that before he goes into the seals program. I hope everything is going good for Gerry. i saw were something tragic happened in his div. I hope he is handling that. Good Luck and keep in touch!!
Hi, Donna. Where do you live in Philly? I saw your post on Class 276. I live right outside the city borders near Burholme and Fox Chase. Are you going to the meet and greet tomorrow?
Hi Donna,
Hope things are going well for Gerry. Zach starts A school finally on Tuesday. He's enjoying the much warmer S. Carolina weather!
I was just thinking of you last night, because the Military History channel had a whole series on Pre-buds at GL. I didn't have time to watch much, but it was really neat to see. Anyway, just thought I'd mention the show-you might enjoy seeing it. Take care, and I hope all is well with you.
