Hi Carol, Just wanted to introduce myself, Kathy, from Dracut, thought we live so close to each other, maybe we could share stories? Hope all is well with your sailor!
Carol,
You and your family are truely in my prayers and I hope all that every precious moment you have together will be everything you want it to be. Take care.
Carol,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take one day at a time. I'm glad Ryan can be there for you and his dad as well as the family.
Take care,
Sharon
I'm so glad that Ryan is home. You need a break and a big HUG from him and everyone for being so brave and taking care of everyone and everything that has been thrown at you. Now Ryan will get some quality time with his Dad and you and, I hope, memories he will cherish forever.
Carol, I'm surprised to hear about the Navy's decision. I don't know what their decision is based on. Yeah you should call the Red Cross. Let me know how it goes. Hugs and love to you and everyone. Carole
Jan's Dad has been gone for 13 years, since he was 12. It was very sudden and shocking. I'm glad you think he is an awesome and caring person. I think he is too!
I don't have any big plans right now because I'm not exactly sure when he will get here. I just know he is on the plane right now! YaY. I bought champagne and some special stuff to cook and celebrate with though. I'll call his best friend to come by too. Plus he has some school friends who want to see him. I think mostly just doing vacation type things is what he wants to do, especially if the weather stays as nice and warm as it has been. We are only a mile from the beach...and this IS Southern California. LOL! He probably wants to do all the stuff he took for granted when he was growing up here.
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter's BF died last month. I'm glad she got to hear from her though. That is so wonderful about your Dad being your youngest guardian angel. I'm glad you heard your parents are around. I'm sure that Jan's dad is one of his guardian angels as well as my dad.
Do I believe in mediums? YES! Actually, I'm pretty psychic myself :-). I could tell you some astounding things. So what did you hear, if I may ask? I'm really curious to find out.
As far as staying up late. I've noticed that Jan falls into bed right after a long day of 3 or 4 funerals. Then he wakes up at around 11 PM or midnight to get his cleaning and prep work done for the next day. Then he gets another hour or two of sleep and then it is up at 4 or 5 to start all over again. At least that is the way he has described it to me. I think the firing part at the funerals is the most exciting part. I remember it well from when my grandfather and father passed away. I remember the whole ceremony, but the guns and firing really added something special to it all and the kids really like it.
Hey don't worry about where you posted your comment. I've gotten my location mixed up before. It you want to delete it you can. But if you don't see that little X on the upper right-hand corner of your comment and want it deleted let me know cause I can delete it for you on the Ceremonial Guard Forum. Prayers will be made for your husband!
My mom's b-day was May 3rd, my brother May 17, my brother in-law May 18, my father May 23 (I think), my nephew May 24 and my grandfather May 27. Plus my sister's wedding anniversary is in May. It is a BIG month for my family. Also one of my sisters was born on Feb 13th so this year her b-day was on a Friday. She always loves it when that happens. LOL!
Hi Carol, I just wanted to make sure you didn't feel obligated to talk on that group page.
My Dad had brain tumors and I remember well how his memory was impaired after a few operations. He knew it though and would sometimes just say - you'll have to ask your mother about that!
"I handle this news better than my kids. It's been 3 1/2 years since his first tumor, he's had 3 so far. It's his memory that i have a problem with, his first tumor they had to remove a piece of his brain that was part of his short term memory. some times he thinks i'm his mother and he only remembers ryans name, we have 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren besides ryan."
Hi Carol. I was just talking to Jan about an hour ago. I told him - Itz LATE! GO TO BED. LOL! Anyway, he told me he now knows he is getting leave starting on Thursday. Hooray.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband and the tumors. I know it is very serious and I'll put him in my prayers if you don't mind. I'm glad that Ryan had his girlfriend with him when you told him. I'm sure that was a bit of comfort for him. So he can start firing at the funerals now - cool! I know that Jan enjoys doing that. He has four funerals to do tomorrow. Thatz a lot, at least I think so.
When is your birthday in May? My family has a bunch of birthdays in May...5 of them. May is a pretty good time to go to DC too. Not too hot and not too cold and the humidity isn't bad. That will be good timing!
Carol, You have to check out the pictures posted on the Ceremonial Guard Families Forum - The slideshow, somewhere around 082 or so, you'll find some pix of your Ryan marching in the rehearsal - right behind Commander Higgenbotham. Great pictures! Maybe the best you'll get from this event. :-). Please let me know if you have any trouble seeing them.
I've gotten those pictures together and will send them to you in a compressed Winzip file. Will you be able to open that? I'm assuming you are on a PC running Windows. If you are, just check your programs to see if you have something called WinZip.
Carol, The pics on my laptop of Ryan are a higher resolution so what I'll do is email those to you. They will be numbered, not named. The higher resolution means you can print a better (sharper, more clear, larger) image if you want to do that.
If you happen to have any of Jan, I'd love to see them. Cheerz!
Hi Carole. That must be the problem. I've just made it viewable by the public. I'll keep it that way for a few days. :-)
I also uploaded most of the pics on N4M but they haven't been approved by the Admin yet. I think they will be cleared by tomorrow. I'll let you know. I have a number of pics of your Ryan I'm sure you would like to have.

No he isn't transitioning out for some time. I was just wondering if what I had been told was true. :-)
How are you Carol? How is Ryan? I know he and Jan still see each other often.
