Matt was an E3 when he got to Pensacola. He told me that he wouldn't be allowed to leave until the 19th because he was driving over 3 hours away from the base and they want them to have a good night sleep before getting on the road. He started dating this girl about a month after he got to Pensacola and she has moved on to her duty station in California. We haven't met her yet but she will be coming here for Christmas - definitely sounds like they are serious. I told him that he needs to stay focused on accomplishing what he set out to do by joining the Navy. He knows that there are certain advancements he can't make if he is married and hopefully since she is in the Navy also she understands.
Michelle Matt called about noon today and said that they told him at 5:00am this morning that he would be starting ATT classes today. Did you hear from your son?
Michelle I just got off the phone with Matt and he also said that he wouldn't class up until after the holidays. Probably for the best-cramming a 2 month class into 2 weeks sounded pretty intense.
Hi Michelle! My son is also AT. They must be in the A2E program together. Matt said that he is now a Petty Officer but will not receive the pay or the bars until after he finishes A school. He said that the Senior Chief was talking about starting the ATT classes and trying to finish the 2 month class in 2 weeks before they take a break for the holidays. He was meeting with them Sunday and I haven't heard from him since so I don't know how that worked out but if they decide to do that he is going to be very busy with the class. He was so funny when he came home at Thanksgiving he was telling me about cleaning and he said that you could eat off the floors because it is so clean in there. The AT class is one of the longest and Matt said that he could be there through April or as long as September which would be fine with me because he is only 8 hours away right now.
Yes, you can donate calling card through USO, or through Molly's Adopt a Sailor when we get a request. They must be international, and I think you have to activate them first. Also, our church (Methodist) as a whole gets them at a great price to send to the chaplains to hand out.
Hi, Michelle. He graduated a school last Fri. He will be home in the morning for a few days, then back to San Diego-stationed there for 36 mos. We are going out there for Christmas. He is officially a Seabee now in Beachmasters Unit. He is happy so that is good. How is your son doing? It is good to hear from you!
Hi, tell me a little about your sailor? My son is Stephen and he is 22 and has been in the Navy since November 18, 08, I cannot believe it is going to be a year already. He is an IT and works with computers, he has a high clearance rate, he is an E2. He has received two metals already, can you tell I am very proud of him. He has beautiful red hair and is 6"2'. On his dream list he listed Italy and that is where he is Naples, Italy. We are going to go down and see him hopefully in May of 2010. I miss him so much. We talk alot on skype, if I did not have skype I would cry more then I do now. LOL He was a firemen before he went into the Navy, did a year of college and it was not for him, so he is doing great and loves what he is doing. Well I guess I told you everything. I would love to hear about your sailor. Yes we will have to get together, what part of Downers Grove are you in?
Michelle, I live in Alsip, my sister-in-law lives in Downers Grove, we are just about neighbors. We should talk! I sent you a friend request. I don't know too many from Chicago!!!!! My son went in November 18th, so I have been at this for a while.
Michelle , when i say care package I mean those things you spoke of plus food and snacks ,protein snacks. They do have a NEX there but have to walk everywhere its a longggg walk. The Galley is not open 24/7 so if your sailor has night duty its nice to come back to a hot micro meal. They do have a micro and frig in their room. mail to there is fast enough that you could send home made cookies they should be alright....don't wast your money on over night shipping or haveing them sign for stuff. Just let him know when you mail something he can check post office there its near the building they have class in..He can check everyday at lunch ..no mail on Sat or Sun...don't make package to heavy or large they have to carry it back to barracks in one are , they have to be able to salute whit the other.
YES! We did a fast track-Navy pier, rode the train in, the bus, the water taxi, made it to American Girl. "Unfortunately, the pizza place had an hour and 45-minute wait after the Willis tower took so long there wasn't enough time.
ATI, as far as I understand is Aviation Technician, the work on circuits etc the wiring in a workshop, the ATO same thing but they work by taking the components our of the plane, looking at them, if they can't be fixed there by them they take them back to the workshop for the ATI guys to fix.
Our guys do the electrical, circuits and a bunch of other stuff, they work on some of the most sophisticated aircraft in the world which is why their school is so very long. Make sure your Sailor does his AWAT and ATT as soon as he can. The AWAT can be done on-line. Then he classes up for ATT then after that they class up for A school, depending on what type of aircraft and particular specialty they are chosen for they may have to do C school, most of the time that is in Biloxi, MS and the length again is dependent upon what they are there for. Hope that all made sense to you.
Personally I hope my son goes to Biloxi, P'cola is close enough but Biloxi is even closer to home. Its nice to be able to see him as often as I can.
My baby is a Marine and he is stationed in Hawaii, I saw him for about 3 days over Easter, before that was New Year. Goodness knows when I will see him again, rumor mill has them deploying in late spring so I may go for a visit in early spring. Yes he really is a baby, he turned 18 May 28th, I signed the papers so he could enter early, he graduated PFC at the age of 17, quite an achievement.
What barracks is your son in?
Hi Michelle,
I tried to look for you also, but it was so crazy. I couldn't find my son for a bit, then he told me that he had an hour and a half before he had to go to the airport. After that everything was just a blur. Hope that you had a great time with your son this weekend.
Take care,
Alba ;o)
We are staying at the Hampton in Gurnee across from 6 flags. My daughter recommended Uno's also. It must be really good. My friends told me I have to go get American girl dolls for my granddaughters. Do you know where I need to go to get those? We are coming Thursday the 30th. Thanks!
Thanks Michelle,
I hope that I get a letter today. I usually get it on Thursdays, but the last letter said that he was going to be busy and might not be able to write.
Have a great day!!

Dear Michelle,
How are you doing? Thsi NAvy for moms is such a blessing. Thank you for the compliment of my pictures. You like my baby girl Rachel, she's the lizard!! HAhA!!
I've had moms ask about my pets. I have a zoo. No one has ever heard of a blue tongue skink, so I put Rachel's picture up!! HAHA!
I see Adam hasn't left yet for Boot Camp. Once he gets into the rountine of it and over being homesick, he'll like it. All the recruits do, believe it or not.
He'll be in good hands with the Navy.
It's the moms having nervous breakdowns!! HAHA!! Boot Camp isn't as horrible as we picture it.
I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
Barbara
