Sonj, I too am a single mom and he is my youngest and only son from my second marriage. My oldest is 9 yrs older than my Sailor son and we hardly communicate anymore. So I do understand your anxiety. My son graduated bootcamp Sept 2008 and is presently at his first duty station in Norfolk, VA. He is stateside and gets Leave and visits home but still the anxiety is there. I have calmed down quite considerably since he has been at his duty station. The emails, texting and cell calls are wonderful. I did visit him in VA this past summer and it really helped me know what his living conditions are. The Navy takes good care of our sons/daughters.
If there is anything I can help you with; please let me know; I'll be glad to help you.

Ask your phone provider and insurance provider about military discount. My grandson gets a dramatic discount. It doesn't hurt to ask. Most of us travel to Great Lakes for PIR(pass in review) or graduation as we civilians call it. Please try to go to this it is unforgetable. We took colored scarves to wave so he could see us. There's usually about 1000 a week PIR. There are lots of hotels according to your money situation. Keep in touch with chat at nite and just observe and you learn a lot.I'll try to answer anything I can or direct you to someone who can. Lots of film & tissues. My grandson Pir was 12/24. What a scramble to get back to N.J. for Christmas. Over 500 flights were cancelled the day before because of snow. But we went to the airport to wait and got on a flight 5 hours before we were due to go. So we got home sooner. My son has 4 other little kids at home waiting. So it all turned out well. Please save your money so you can go to grad. You will never regret it. When will you son be leaving? The physical isn't too bad if they go in shape.Thats all I can think of now. Just keep a list of questions and ask away . Judi
