Hi, Elaine--guess who I just talked to on the phone! Derek! My daughter was passing him on the pier and she handed the phone to him. He told me he got a place to live at the brand-new base apartments. My daughter told me they are very nice and even have their own pool. I was going to tell her that Derek was still looking, but he said he found a great one. Woohoo!
Elaine--my daughter has been sharing an apartment with her best friend (a guy) and he may be looking for a roommate since she is leaving the Navy sometime between mid August and mid September. I'll have her ask him if he's got someone lined up already or not. They have someone staying at the place while they've been deployed so not sure if that person is taking her place or not. The apartment is about 10 minutes, has gated access to the complex and is in a nice neighborhood.
I'm just waiting on some stuff to show up that I ordered for her and then I'll be sending her a box of goodies. I'll ask her about Derek's drawing... :-D So good to hear from them all again!
Oh Elaine, I am sooooo happy for you that Derek called. That gives me hope that the restriction will be lifted soon, and I will get that oh so wonderful name in my inbox of my email!

"Wish I knew his last name, those are all the MAs there, the Master at Arms, police of the ship. I know the dude doing the bunny ears behind the chief and a couple others in the pic."
I forgot to tell her your son was third from the right, so I'll send that info in my next e-mail to her.
Hi Elaine and WELCOME!!! My son is on the Boxer, flight deck fuels. Most of my packages take 2 - 3 weeks to get to my son. I send him care packages about every two weeks. Interesting that sometimes his envelopes (letters/cards) take longer. If you are not already there is also a Boxer Family Readiness Group that you can sign up for and get additional newsletters, etc. The February one we just got was what the guys/girls get on the ship. You will need to have a "yahoo email account" but you can email ussboxerfrg@gmail.com and ask to be added to the group. Let them know your son is on the Boxer, I also gave them his name, etc. and they will inturn email you the instructions. Another way for the families to stay in touch with what's going on with the ship. Your post caught my attention, I just northwest of Baltimore and work at a Community College... again Welcome!
Thank you so much for the welcome. Derek started at Annapolis as Master at Arms after the Marines were sent to Iraq - The Navy took over security - he has been there three 1/2 years, now deployed on the USS Boxer - and will be stationed in San Diego, CA - miss him already! He graduated Great Lakes 2005 and making the Navy his career - He experienced so many wonderful things in the past 4 years - Met Presdent Bush Sr, John McCain, did security in Annapolis for the Peace talks. We have something for everyone here groups from boot camp moms to overseas moms and moms that like to scrap book. We have meet and greets to events that the moms set up to meet each other and have dinner or an outing. There are groups to help you with each and every step of this wonderful adventure that our children have chosen called the US Navy.
Please tell us about your sailor and what they have chosen to do in the navy and ohh yeah we LOVE pictures of everyone !!
