Hi Gail - I'm new to this website (finding it was a godsend). My son is on the Alabama and my husband and I have a similar situation with a daughter in law that only provides info on a need-to-know basis. We'd appreciate any insight you can give us. Good luck to you and your sailor. Pickles
Hi Gail! Thank you for your note. :) I am doing pretty well. Matt hasn't left for basic yet; he's doing delayed entry. He will know more tomorrow when he sees the recruiter again. He is signed up, it's official, but we need to know when his actual date is. So he's living at home w/us for now (he's 18.5 years old, with 1 semester of college done). He is planning to do one more semester in the fall, if he doesn't go to basic until January. We'll see....For now, it's nice having another driver around, since I'm somewhat impaired. God does have a way of figuring things out for us! ;) Thanks again!
Got to talk to Kevin, He sound good. He has to stay on the boat untill Saturday, because his temperary pass has expired. So he had to use a friends cell phone to call home. I wonder why his friend was still on board.
Kevin though it was pretty cool that we were talking online. And ya he like your Kevin, he said he was very nice.
I will get to talk more when he gets off the boat. when your Kevin calls you again, tell him i said welcome home.
You know if my Kevin dosen't pass his dolphins test he will be sent to a another boat. I hope that dosen't happen, its comforting to know that my Kevin is with your Kevin.
I don't know what made me thing of it, I guess talking to you and that your son is also a Kevin and they are on the same boat and they both have great moms. ya I think it would be hard to become the #2 girl. You what your kids to find someone to love, but letting go again would be hard.
Your Friend
Kevins mom
PS I'm going to make sure i have my cell phone at all time. yes there to. hahahahahah
Sorry its taken so long, busy
Thank you, what would i have done with out you. THANKS for every thing.
Count down. i have already left kevin a message on his cell phone. It said welcome back sun and i can't wait to talk.
I'm so glad the baby is doing fine, its hard on the whole friend when a baby has trouble. I had a nice that was born with cf. which has to do with breathing and other thing. its amazing what doctors can do.
Ya i thing your right about the email. The messages are not going in at all, but maybe they will be back soon and then we can tex them.
Was it hard for you when Kevin got married? I was thing it wood be hard not being #1 person in there life.
Any ways have a good week.
Hi Gail: My son is on the Penn out of Bangor, WA. Meg was awesome to find this for us. If you have luck, please keep me posted. I haven't contacted them yet because of my work (M-F 8-5). I'm so greatful for Meg. She has been AWESOME. I have a similar concern because we don't hear from our sailor-and they have a 13 month old with a 14 yr old. No time for family communication. It is easier if we have the information too. Takes some of the 'edge' off. I hate to ask questions if I can read the info. We are a wait to hear what they share.
So, what does Kevin do? Adam is a nuke. God's blessings, Susan
Candace and Caliana are the true heroes here. I mean, Matt and Kevin are easy for us to view as heroes. And then there is this whole extension of ourselves and we see, you and I, first hand that behind the scenes there are those who fit the description of being a hero, also.
Ashley is filling out her taxes for 2008 and I am reminded of how different life is for these gals. She had to have Dean sign a power-of-attorney tax form (2848) and once again handle these every day matters on their own. She does it with her chin up and does it well.
Anyway, keep everyone well. I have to go and print off a tax form for Ash. Give babies and wives and tell those sailors they have a Navy Mom who is praying for them. Talk soon
Caliana, what a trooper and Vickie, too. I just want to give them a big hug. And that Caliana, kisses, lots of kisses.
Ashley seems better now that she is at home. She has family and friends and her life doesn't feel as lonely. I would love to have her go to the pizza party. I haven't asked her yet. And your are right! Our kids are well worth it. All the sacrifices and missed pizza parties. I'm so proud of them. Between babies being born and deployments and illnesses, our kids survive and do it well. Gail, we are the luckiest moms ever.
Hi Gail,
I don't have the answer to your question, but there is a very active Washington/Oregon group on this site. Many of the Moms are mothers of sailors stationed in Bangor. I just happen to live in Washington but my sailor is stationed in on the east coast. You may be able to get some really good info from the WA/OR moms group if you post the question there. Just a thought, and I hope you find the info you are looking for.
Gail,
A LDO is a Limited Duty Officer, which means that my husband went from the enlisted ranks to the officer ranks! Its been a sacrafice, but well worth it in the end. Yes I am in the State of Washington. I'm in the Everett area, which is on the other side of the sound to where your son is stationed at. At one point, we were stationed in Bremerton at the Naval base their. I used to go to the Bangor base all the time.
Your most welcomed for the information. Let me know if there is anything else you need, and have a great day today!
Good morning Gail, sorry to year about your grand baby. She's in my prayers. I hope all goes well.
Actually, Kevin's boat is in dry dock, so won't be going out any time soon :) They spend a lot of time in "training" and who knows what all. And he has "duty day" every 3 days, so it seems like he's at work most of the time.
I did RSVP for the get together on the 21st. I sure hope you can go, I'd like to meet you:) If you go and would like to carpool, let me know.
How's baby? "Lord, please heal her little body and keep her well. Hold her, Papa." And how are you holding up? I am so thankful that Matt is coming home.
I didn't even know about the pizza party. With Ashley coming home, I've been somewhat out of touch myself. I brought her home on Wednesday. Being on the base without Dean got to be a bit lonely. So, she is home during his deployment. I'll get on Colorado Navy Moms and check out the pizza party. I'll have to ask Ashley if she would like to go.
Give Vickie a special hug for me. Let her know that everything is going to be okay. And you take extra special care of yourself. You are in high demand these days.
Prayers, Simone

Thanks for sharing as one single mom to the other. Are you single now? And both your children are out of state now. You know a few things about coping then.
It's wonderful that you have brought up wonderful children also. God is good. My ex once told me that a single mom could not raise a male child to be successful. Well, there's a few example that disprove that theory and my son is another fine example of a respectful, intelligent, hard-working young man raised by myself and my mom before she passed last year.
I'm looking forward to the day when my daughter marries a believer, but she just graduated from college and is 23. Maybe in the next few years. My son is a senior in high school so I hope he waits until he graduates school first. lol. I'm looking forward to being around my (future) grandchildren one day...Lord willing.
Good morning :) thanks for your comment :) Am checking with my Kevin so will let you know if your Kevin and Chris are on the same crew. I'm happy that your son is married and happy! That makes a lot of difference when they are far from home and no family around. Kevin has gone out a couple times, but he usually has long days and sometimes a strange schedule. And it's difficult to meet nice young ladies when you are surrounded by men all the time!
Have a great weekend! I'll let you know when I find out more about Chris.
