Thank you Janis. I think it will be hard to stop hugging her. I may get over there and not want to come home. I'll let everyone know how it was when I get back.
Good Morning to you too. Ashley called last night from Florida, so she did arrive. She said she would be home on 12/8 for around 10 days then off to the USS George Washington. It will be nice to have her home for while since I dont think we will be seeing her for quite some time after that. They will have to celebrate their birthdays together, Ashleys birthday is 12/30. Have a good day.
I talked to my daughter around 4:30 EST and she said their flight to Florida had been cancelled (held over in GA) and they were scheduled for another sometime around 7:30PM unless that gets cancelled. How old is your daughter? Mine will be 22 the end of December when she will be in Japan :(
Hi Janis! Marissa is doing quite well and seems to be happy. She's moving forward in her schooling and she's doing well on her tests. Her fiance is still doing A school. He will have C school stateside and won't get orders for quite a while. I'm not even sure if or when Marissa will get out on a medical discharge, so there's a lot that's still up in the air for both of them. Marissa is fine with that. She and Pete have known each other for a year now and they've survived separation in their relationship. She's quite independent.
I am excited for Jennifer and how quickly her Navy career has moved along. I hope she is excited about being based in Japan. Hopefully that will give you and your husband a new place to visit sometime in the future.
It's really good to hear from you again. My best to your sailor! Susan
I talked to her last night and she said she thinks she will be leaving for FL on Monday and then will be on hold there again but will be home to visit early December before leaving for Japan. Have a great weekend yourself.
She is still in IL and not happy about it. I can't blame her, she wants to move on. She is in the A (airmnan) Pact program. Someone sent a message telling me she did not need a passport because the Japanese loved the americans and she will not be leaving for 4 years unless it is to come home for a visit so the military id is all she will need. We would need one if we were to ever go to Japan. I think her leisure travel will be in Japan so I think she will be ok. The information we are receiving is defintely great and much appreciated
I am sure she will have a great time. I would be nervous, too.
Jake already had a passport because he took a 3 week trip to Ireland before he joined the Navy. He is very excited about going to the GW and Japan. He joined so that he could go to as many places as he can. I am greatful that he will be home for 2 weeks but I will miss him desperately when he leaves. He says he will bring us out for a visit so I guess we had better get busy getting our passports.
How long of a hold do they anticipate for your daughter?
She was supposed to leave last night but they discovered the captain hadn't signed her overseas packet so they are now awaiting his return to base to do that and then she will be leaving for Pensacola. I guess since she was going to be on hold there she has time to kill but she was ready to leave Great Lakes. Oh well....
I too am at work and have been very thankful for this website for several weeks now. It sounds like they might be arriving together. My daughter will also be on hold for a couple of weeks in Florida then only have maybe 3 weeks of schooling then they will let her come home a couple of weeks before being sent to Japan before Christmas. I will let you know when I know more positive information. Nice to meet you.
Janis, i read your note on Sailors in Pensacola. From you picture of you and you daughter you look very close. As I am with my son and daughters. I feel for you and her and know how hard it is when we can't fix things. My son has been at Corry station since 10/18 and i can some times hear it in his voice the concern of the unknown. I try to remind him that he's been through change up till now and he'll get through the next change too. No matter what they are still our kids and all we want to do is help. I'm sure your daughter will be fine just another change. Take care. Kathie
Hi Janis! It's been a while since I've been on - had just a little too much drama with my little sailor for a while and didn't want to post anything I'd regret. :o) How is Jennifer doing? I hope her A school is going well. I friended you on FaceBook, but I'm not sure if you can check it at work... Did you get a new computer at home yet?
Keep in touch. It will be good to talk to you again. Susan
Janice, I'm not sure what all the different jobs are, I was quite impressed and overwhelmed with all the images from the fleet. It makes me feel a little proud and a little afraid at the same time. Since my son is going to be a Nuke, he will be in the engine room. I didn't like the image where they were teaching the Iraqi soldiers how to take over a ship, and they sent a lot of man power to the engine room (and I thought that he would have a safe job) But with all our manpower, the chance of anyone taking over one of our ships is very small. We need to keep praying for all our sailors, may they be strong, do their job, and come back home.
Janis
I am thinking of you. When you hug your sailor at PIR, you will have an experience like none other. I just got goosebumps again remembering our sailors' PIR of last year.

I'm glad that you heard from your daughter. We haven't heard from our son at all yet. We didn't get a call when he supposedly arrived. I actually called the recruiting office, and a recruiter said we might hear from him on Sunday, but still no call. I just want to know that he is there. If your daughter's box is on the way, maybe his is, too, and at least we'll know he is there and well. ( I've read that sometimes they get to make calls when something is wrong. ) This is a whole new experience!! Thanks for your reply.
Well today's the day, Napua will be a on plane this am from California to IL. I took her to MEPS yesterday and leaving was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I just wish this pit in my stomach would go away. She called around 11:00 pm and we talked for an hour. It was a so good to hear her voice. Neither one of us could go to sleep. She was nervous and started to second quess her decision. I gave her encouragement and told her to remember why she was doing this. It was fear and lack of sleep that was playing with her mind. Thanks for the support.
