Hey Sue! All well here! Zach in Hawaii now! He was shipped out a week after arriving to meet with his ship...USS Chung Hoon! :) I am glad he was as he was able to experience sea life and meet his unit and shipmates and experience part of the deployment prior to returning to hawaii.. he seems to be doing great and settling in....
they just got back from another short exercise...
I do know of the school and they have an excellent program...I see students at CMC all the time. I dont' really know the instructors there...but, I am happy to answer any questions from you or your daughter.....tell her to email me at my gmail address ...marialice.gulledge@gmail.com....I will then give her my phone number and we can chat whenever! :)
Hi, Christine-Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I was on vacation (first NY and then Florida) Anyway, your son should have an email address to communicate to him. Is he on the gold crew? My son is on the blue crew and will be going back out sometime in the next month. What kind of info were you looking for? When our son is out we email him but very rarely get one back. Sometimes the email gets out sometimes not. I know it's not very comforting but communication isn't very good while on the sub. I do know that if there is an emergency the Red Cross will help. (hopefully there won't be!). I don't feel like I've been a lot of help to you, but hang in there and know we're here for you. Oh, I believe you can also go to the USS Kentucky website (google it as I can't remember what it is) and get info on the boat itself. You can't leave messages or anything but it will give you info on the sub. Good Luck to your son and remember we're all here! (It's hard but it does get easier!)
Hi Sue , My Son is new on the USS KENTUCKY. Do you know how to get any kind of information? He is only 19!! He has verry little time to communicate with us.. thanks Chris
Sue ! PIR was fantastic! It was amazing! honestly....such a joyful moment...and all the excitement with all the parents...will take that feeling with me forever! :) Zach now in hold mode -- as current A school for DC course too full...so, he and about half his classmates that were going to DC are now on hold for a week or 2... thankfully...I am up too speed from the N4M website that this does occur, or I would be worried! :) Now...Nate in 3rd week....tick tock all over again! Good news though....hopefully to see them both when Nate graduates.....assuming he is not grad and go! BTW.... It was FREEZING up there ! I am NOT used to weather below freezing....let along single digits! I was terribly sick by the time I left... woke up at 0230 ....feverish, chills...blah blah....by the next day.....all out sick almost a week....Thankfully..now on the road to recovery!
just got home from work and packing for trip! A blustery 9 degrees projected for Friday! YIKES! I am not sure I have cold weather gear for weather like that! :) I can not WAIT! Nathan left monday....it has been an emotional week! :) I will update photos when we get back! Thank yoU!
I Sue this is Beverly. Thank you so much for welcoming me to this sight. I was it advertised on tv and thought that I would try it. I have seen some encouraging words on it. At the present time my son is stationed in Hawaii. He was in Japan for three years. He re-enlisted and then went to Hawaii in November of 07. Then his twin brother go stationed in Japan. He is in the Air Force.I will also check out the NC Moms. God bless you and I will pray for your son. My goal is to try to get to Hawaii and Japan in the next year.
Oh!...i work at CMC - the main hospital down town. My husband works urgent care with CMC....here in Huntersville. So, we both work a lot of weekends. He works every other weekend and I work every 4th weekend....(we work week days too! :) I work 4 - 10 hour shifts/ week and my husband works 12 hours shifts....he works 2 on, 3 off, 3 on, 2 off, and rotates.....etc, etc....blah blah blah....we have both worked full time at CMC since moving to Charlotte area when mike retired from the Army....which has been 12 years now! yikes! Time flys! Ha!
Hi Sue! I think I know which one you work at! Is it located off Independance Blvd? I have been there a time or two on my going or coming home from Myrtle Beach! :) I love Michaels! I have started scrapbooking a little....and have gotten all my supplies there ! I am also a big fan of all the Martha Stewart selections! :)
I am so excited for PIR at end of month! I am making the boys a scrapbook from infancy until now ....with key photos from when they were little and growing up....for graduation gifts from basic training.
Photos of your son and daughter in law are beautiful! I know you are so proud of them! :)
I am excited to meet you and we will plan to car pool together for a moms event when we are both off! :)
Hi Sue! I am also working....our schedule is already out...too much to switch shifts...especially given that I am going to be off on Jan 30 for PIR! :) Not to get too personal....but, working every other weekend sounds like either retail or the medical profession! I am also a weekend worker...and so is my husband! If not to forward of me....where do you work at? Maybe we can try again next month! :) Thanks again! Marialice
Sue! How great to meet you! I am so excited to find a mom close by!! Are you going to the NC moms event? I am trying to get that day off from work....If so...maybe we can commute together!
Hi Sue, saw your note on the Blue Candle Lighting event. I wanted to invite you to join the ladies on the following Group:
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/washingtonoregon
Since Matthew and Jennifer will be in our part of the country for a while, thought you'd like to get to know some of the residents as well as some of the other Moms whose Sailors are stationed at one of our three bases. Which one are they at, what is his job in the Navy? We have discussion Groups you may be interested in reading. Let us know if they have any needs on this holiday or any other time. You'll find we're a pretty welcoming and friendly bunch! :-) Take care, God Bless and Happy Holidays!
i got my form letter today! yipee. he must be doing well because the only thing he mentioned in "recruit comment" was about our cat, jack. thank God that letter finally came. i was about at my wits end waiting for that. i've been writing so now i can send my letters! thanks for the comments and the positive thoughts. i appreciate it!
Sue, Midland is very close! My son does have a place off base, but He hasn't shared the city info with me. I'll ask when I talk to him or when he's home for the holidays. Do you work during the day? We could do lunch sometime. My husband is home for 6 weeks, off the road. Still works from home though. I pretty much do what I want, when I want.
Hey Sue, thanks for the note. Yea, it has been a rough week but I know I will hear from him soon. The lady I met at the MEPS Center, whose son left with mine, called his recruiter and they said we may hear something by Friday. I've been writing every other day so I will already have a group of letters to send as soon as I get the address. Your son and his wife look adorable. How old is he? Did he got to Sun Valley? WA will be a neat place for you to visit! Thanks again for your encouraging words. This site sure is a blessing to all of us MOM's!
1. Cut squares of paper 4x4, 3.5x3.5,3x3,2.5x2.5,2x2,1.5x1.5,1x1. That will give you 7 squares.
2. Next fold each square in half, crease with bone folder and unfold.
3. Next fold each square in half diagonally unfold then do again the other direction diagonally making sure to use bone folder on each fold.
4. Return paper to the original half fold, press in the 2 sides to make a triangle fold and use bone folder.
5. With triangle facing you take top right hand point and fold down to the center of the bottom of the triangle crease do the same with the top left hand point. They should meet in the center of the bottom of the triangle. Do this with all squares.
6. Now nest all together in half inch increments place glue to hold.
7. Decorate anyway you want!
Sue, I live in Stanfield (just moved from Gastonia) which is 2 miles off 24/27 (Albemarle Road) from Locust. Soooo, we're neighbors. My son is a nuke in Bremerton Washington. Jane, from Lincolnton, and I are thinking of meeting up sometime soon.
Hi Sue. It is hard to believe that I started the Knit for the Navy group on monday this week and it has grow so fast!! We would love to have you join us. If you want to help out making blankets/afghans they need to be twin bed size or smaller. They can be any color or pattern. If you need help with supplies I can hook you up with a supply angel. When you are finished with the blanket/afghan, let me know and I will tell you where to send it. Just shoot me a message if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks for checking us out. :)
Hi Sue. Joseph is attatched to the USS Norfolk. He signed up as a senior in high school with absolutely no warning. Just came home one day and said "I'm thinking about joining the Navy". I said "when?". He said "I already did". I am pretty sure my mouth hit the floor. I have always encouraged my boys to follow their heart. I'm not sure what he was following that day (lol) but it is working out ok for him. I don't know what to tell you about the nuke mom thing. I just saw it in the left column on the main page, clicked on and there I was. I am internet challenged and just kind of fumble my way through. Thank you for writing to me. No one here is involved with the navy so certainly have no idea what "nuke" means other than a reference to the microwave...
Hi Sue. My name is Jane. We are practically neighbors, as I live in Lincolnton! My son, Joseph, is stationed in Virginia and I miss him every day, but, am so proud of his accomplishments in the Navy. Your family photos are beautiful!!!
