What we don’t know we will find out!
Hi Kate - I don't know the name of his ranch. He planted a church there...plus he had cattle. I have never been to that part of California and really want to see it. You all must get a lot of snow. Maybe sometime in the spring or summer, my husband and I can take a drive there and check it out. Hope you had a good Christmas!
Oh I forgot to add, I have never been to Alturas. My pastor used to live in Fort Bidwell in some place called Surprise valley. Do you know of it? He used to have a cattle ranch. Anyway that is one part of California that I want to visit. Its pretty remote - sounds good to me. I was raised in San Francisco and lived just south of the city where I raised my family. Its so crowded and that's why Redding is such a breathe of fresh air to me.
Hi Kate - Nice to meet you. I was away for Thanksgiving and has guests (in laws) that just left yesterday! Whew LONG holiday for me! I'd love to meet sometime. Let me know and we'll do it.
My son's going for GM. His PIR was Halloween. He completed his first class, which is a one-week "indoc" class covering personal finance & decision-making (& possibly other things, but that's all he mentioned), about 2 and a half weeks ago. Now, he's on "hold" again until he goes to the next course, which is SCC or basic seamanship, and is held at night. So, it's kind of hurry up and wait. Personally, I wonder why they don't just have a "phase 2" bootcamp, since they all have to take these anyway, before they get to the actual A school training.
Hi Kate. I'm Debby and I live kinda near you...(ha ha) in Redding. Seems everyone is more in the bay area where I just moved from, 6 mos ago. Anyway I just wanted to say HI.

I just happened across the group that you were in and saw that you mentioned a "red scarf", can i ask what does that mean??
Hi Kate,
I know exactly where Alturas is, my sister and her husband live there with their 3 kids. In fact I'm heading there this Thanksgiving so we can all be together before my son leaves in Jan. Hope your daughter is doing well. Jor-Jean
Hey Kate...wrote you back on the bc wall. But I came to your page to check it out. Where do you live exactly. I used to live in No. Cal...now I'm southern :) I used to live in Loomis and work in Newcastle (Auburn). I have my Jill and a 17 year old daughter and I'm a single parent also. Well, take care and hope to hear from you again. Mary
Dear Kate,
That was so well phrased. I have never heard any mom say that. We all have our worries, but are proud at the same time. Your just so proud to be bummed out...I like that one!!! Good for you!!
I wasn't too bad myself when Kim left. Of course I had my worries, but I didn't cry and get upset. Some moms are crying as they type!!
It is a wonderful thing our children went into. We have to think possitive and just trust in God, for his protection over our children. I told Kim, if you like the Military life, it's a wonderful carreer!! I do feel comfortable about the Navy. I'm even watching Navy movies when they're on!! HAHA!!
The other day, I finally watched the movie "U-571". I was all excited watching so many jobs being done, that I know Kim was just trained for!!
HAHA!!
She was trained to read the radar, morse code, navigation, and I don't remember the rest. And this movie had it in there!! HAHA!!
What is Emily going to be trained for?
This is all exciting stuff!! HAhA!!
All we can do is be proud of our children!!!
I hope to hear from you again. That's a wonderful state of mind your in!! I'm like that now, but I was worried when she was in Boot Camp. After all that, Kim said after graduation, that she loved Boot Camp!! HAHA!!
You take care and God bless.
Barbara
Dear Kate,
How are you doing? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
So Emily is in Boot Camp a week now. How are you holding up?
Emily is doing fine and in good hands with the Navy. Once she gets into the rountine of Boot Camp, she'll like it, they all do, beleive it or not!!
It's the moms having nervous breakdowns!! HAHA!!
With ine the next week or so, you'll receive a box with Emily's civilian clothes in it. There's no letter, everyone has already looked for ours!! HAHA!!
Then a form letter, with two sentences from Emily.
Around the third week, you should recieve Emily's first long letter. I warn moms, it could be sad. Don't panic. Remember Emily is still home sick and not in the rountine of Boot Camp yet. The letters do get more uplifting.
I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
Barbara
