I don't know that we are "great" parents, but we've done our best with what God has gifted us. We are proud of both our kids and our kids are proud of one another. We truly are blessed in that respect.
So is your sailor in the Power Class now? Or is he done and on his way? Is he surface, sub, aviation?
Hi Pat, We will wait and see if our son deems it important to come to the graduation or not. A friend, who is a Navy Chaplain and a Lt. Cmdr. told me at a Bible study the other day, "I have photos of my parents standing by me at various ceremonies throughout my Naval career and they are some of the most important things I own, look back on and cherish." He also suggested our son pay for us to come to it if it is important to him. Our son does make more money than his mom and dad together, but it will need to be his decision. We have never missed any ceremonies during his four year NROTC days. We were involved together in Boy Scouts for about 7 years and as a Scout leader, we placed great emphasis on being there when accolades and awards were presented. He will be home for Christmas in about 10 days. We are going to build a bookcase together for his place in Mt. Pleasant. Merry Christmas, God bless and God bless our sailors, airmen, soldiers, and coasties.
Hi Pat! Thanks for the welcome. I'll be coming is as a Cryptological Technician - Interpretive (CTI). Not quite sure what all that entails, but I'm looking forward to it!
Hi Pat, and thanks. I like the nautical "welcome aboard." Our son graduated form the University of Illinois last May 2009 after completing the NROTC program there and being commissioned as an Ensign on May 19th. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering and started power school in late June and will graduate on January 22, 2010. He will then go to SOBC (Submarine Officers Basic Course) in Groton, CT for 12 weeks and then likely return to Charleston (or maybe Ballston Spa, NY) to complete his hands-on prototype training. We visited him in late October and enjoyed Charleston. I ended up on this site as I am trying to assess the importance of graduation and make a decision to attend or not. I really haven't found out much about the ceremony. Our son says, "It's no big deal." Maybe to him, but from this parent's perspective, I think it is. I know Groton will be farther from Illinois than Charleston, but I just lost my job so financial considerations to make the trip come into play also.
Thanks Pat for the welcome and invitation. My son just flew to SC on Wed to begin nuke school. I'm stumbling my way through all of this (both Navy and the site). It was very uplifting to find such immediate support.
Pat--did you know you can right click the link on the Indiana Moms page and then just paste it into the Hoosiers you are welcoming? That way they have a direct hit to your page.
Will be in Carmel tomorrow...first time since my Mom's funeral services. I'm looking forward to seeing my family--even though we have been together at our son's wedding in S. Carolina, and nephew's in California. I have now traveled from coast to coast!
Have a great Thanksgiving.
Thanks Pat,
He was vacillating between the three and started to doubt his capabilities and was thinking MM. But I have seen the tenacity of a goat in that kid and a brain that surpasses mine. And i'm not completly dim. In fact I introduce myself, Hi I'm Woody and my IQ is well out of the double digits" I don't know. thanks again Pat.
