Hi Lori, I saw on your blog that your son's banner was up for the July 4th holiday. How Great! How did he feel about it? Where is it located, so I can keep my eyes open for it as I drive around town?
Hi Lori, Thanks for the welcome. Kevin went to Ayala, with an interdistrict transfer. He would have gone to CCH (we live in Butterfield) but his sister had already spend 4 years at Ayala and we were very involved in the music program. It made sense to continue there with Kev.
Wow! So you really did have a long DEP. I'm guessing that it will be the full year that we will be waiting - You're right, it's good and bad. Good because we have plenty of time to adjust to the idea, bad because I like to jump in feet first and get moving on a project - the project here being getting ready for Kev to leave. It's a little like sending a kid to extended summer camp. :> Kevin is pretty calm about it all. I'm a little more anxious to get things moving. Where did your son go?
I work at Pomona Valley in the GI Lab. I've been at the hospital 14 years, actually I've been a nurse for 14 years. :> Gi lab is not the most exciting but I love Mon-Fri and only 6 weekends a year! Can't beat that. Before this department I was in telemetry and cardiac services for 8 years. That job I loved. But working every other weekend is ridiculous.
What school is your son at in SC? And for how long? Have you gone to any meet and greets? I have thought about going. I think it would be great to talk to other moms. I know my friends try to understand what our family is going through... I don't want to talk about it constantly and bore them either. :>
Hi Lori. I know what you mean about the base chapels. It's good we are in technology times now and they can enjoy sermons online. I would have. Unfortunately, then and now the Chaplians cant be trusted. They are dedicated to the military first and don't hold information in confidence. And now that the military is more anti Christian they certianly don't seem to have many solid Protestant pastor/chaplains there. They all have to run the services for every religion even if they are Christian Chaplains and object. They have no choice. Many people I know from many bases have been in so much trouble for talking to the chaplain in confidence, including bootcamp. I always ventured away from the base for worship service.
Yes, David's a week behind so hopefully communication will improve soon.
Funny that you mention jumping when that call came. Last weekend I was hoping for a call (wishful thinking) and when my phone rang my heart started racing (I don't have caller ID). When I answered it and it was my Dad I was so disappointed. I'm still hoping he didn't hear it in my voice. It took my heart 5 minutes to get back into normal rhythm.
Did you cry when your son called? I'm hoping not to or David's liable not to call back. It drives him crazy when I cry.
Hey Lori - I'm so happy that you got to talk to your son. Was that his first real call? Have you gotten many letters? I got a letter from David that he wrote his first Sunday and my mom got one that he wrote his second Sunday but that's it. No phone calls. How exciting that you got your grad packet. I'll be it seems even more real now. Only 5 weeks left for you. You're almost half way there................
Hopefully by the time the boys can write this week they will have started receiving our letters. It's terrible to think of them over there day after day with no word from home. I had warned David before he left not to be worried if he didn't receive any mail right away. I promised him I'd start writing as soon as I got an address but that it could take a couple of weeks before he actually got anything. I know that they know we care, but I'm sure their heads start playing games with them. Yes, I did see that the address on the form letter was slightly different than what the recruiter gave me. I had already sent 3 letters by the time the form letter arrived. Hopefully everything will get to him soon.
I understood from my son's letter that everyone in the div was a flag carrier (50 states + key flags such as US, Navy, etc). I could, of course, have misunderstood.
Hi Lori - Yes, we are very close (depending on traffic on the 91 - lol). I missed David's phone call when he arrived :(. I was at the hospital with my mom and had told him to call my cell but I guess in all of the craziness he forgot. He just left a message on our home phone. I was sooooo sad to miss that call. When did your son last write to you? David wrote the first Sunday he was there but since I didn't even have an address yet at that point he obviously hadn't gotten any letters. I got his address the following day and put the letter I had started the day he left in the mail immediately. I'm hoping that he's started receiving them by now. I wonder how long it takes for our mail to get to the boys. It took his letter 5 days to get to me. Bummer that they get less time for writing and phone calls. Uggh - It's going to be a long 8 weeks...............
Hi Lori,

Dear Lori,
How are you? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
I made this my hobby!!
I read your profile, you have an interesting job, a midwife!! That's an occupation I haven't heard from in a long time.!! WOW!!
If I worked in the delivery room, I'd be thrown out.. I watch the births on the health station, I cry. I think that is the most beautiful sight to see!!
A few years back, I worked for a vet. He had an emergency
C-section on a cat. We were expecting the kittens to be stillborn. WHen I noticed movement, I put on the gloves and removed the sacs. What a feeling, to hold brand new life in my hands!! It was breathe taking!!
Anyway, where is Peter now, in the Navy?
I'm still new. My daughter Kim is just on her ship, the USS Normandy, in Virginia.
I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.
Barbara
