Hey Phyllis - Glad to hear a fellow teacher in the group - it is so awesome how this website has brought all of us together - I know that I probably would have gone "looney tunes" without all these great moms this winter. This computer has been my outlet to get me through!!! My advice on the clothing is just to think in layers. First you have a thermal shirt or long sleeve shirt - then a sweater or something - then a coat with scarf , gloves, ski headband, earmuffs, or hat. Same with the bottom half - I wear "Cuddleduds" - (they are like thermal underwear but a little more feminine ) under pants or jeans and warm socks - I get wool boot socks and I have shoes/boots with fur in them. Then when you get where you are going, you just take off layers till you are comfortable. I think when I retire I am going to spend the winter in Florida or somewhere that is warmer !!!!!!!!
Phyllis~ I know our girls will give it everything they have, I just hope the dont get too down on themselves if they dont make it. My Sara psychs herself out too much and says she cant breath.
You said something in a post about phone calls. I have only spoken to Sara 3 times and 2 of those times were rewards for doing well on testing.
She has been in trouble a few times, she moved in formation once and someone asked her for a napkin the other time. She and 5 other girls had to stand at attention for 30 minutes and then go through IT after that. She said it was rough but she got through it.
I told her to pray, take a deep breath and put herself on a long stretch of highway going somewhere fun and not think about the run in terms of how many laps she has left but that she can kick butt in the next 14 minutes.
Phillis!!
I just got a call from Megan she knows your Sara! They are fast becoming friends. Will you be attending graduation? I hope I can meet you at the meet and greet at Flanagans on Feb 12. I'm so glad our babies are doing well.

Phyllis,
My son is in Div 098, Ship 10. No sure from the posts if you are Div. 098 or 099. Am anxious to chat with some other moms who are in the same stage of BC as we are.
Hi Phyllis,
My daughter Megan is in div 99 ship 10 also. I'm excited to connect with another mom of a recruit in the same division. My husband and I will also be traveling from Texas to Great Lakes for PIR on Feb. 13.
Hi Phyllis, I am Lynn and we are from Canyon Lake, near San Antonio. Our son left for Great lakes late Nov. and graduates Jan 9th. We got a suite at Marriott Residence inn ( has Kitchenette and free breakfast) and it is just north of the base. I will ask if there will be a shuttle. We received the graduation information last Saturday and made our reservation the same day. I would not recommend waiting any longer then that. The one thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the recruit gets set back. Make sure your reservations can be canceled without penalty.
Since I will be going before you, I will give you a good heads up before you even have to make your plans. The trick is to be able to beg or borrow clothing that will be suitable to survive.
One more thing; They all get sick because recruits come from everywhere. Have your recruit buy Zicam swabs at the PX and swab her nose twice a day, This may kill the virus before it gets to the throat. If a sore throat develops then have her do it 3 times a day.
Next tip: They use scarves over their face. A few weeks in they will be required to wash them. Tell her to rinse very well in cold water to cut the suds then rinse extremely well in Warm water. Wring out thoroughly then wring it out again twisted in a towel. This will assure it is dry in the morning. My sons face is chapped and burned from not rinsing thoroughly and he cannot wear his scarf for a week.

Hi and Welcome to N4M. We are proud to have you aboard. Please look on the Events For Blue Candle Lighting. We are lighting blue candles on Christmas day to remember our sons, daughters and spouses who will not be home for the holidays. Some of our children will be home but we wanted to make sure we remember the ones on duty and their families. Please RSVP as if your are attending because it counts. All you have to do is light a blue candle in your home on Christmas day and you will have participated. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
