Hi, Jan!
Thanks so much for joining our Mom of IS Sailors group and writing on my wall. You surely know more about the Navy than many of us, so you'll be a great person to ask general Navy questions. My son, Jim, finished up at Dam Neck in early November and was posted to the UK a week later. He's only 19 (Mom talking! His Dad says, "He's 19!" like it's grown :)) He loves it and I'm happy for him but I miss him!
I would be glad to talk with your daughter-in-law about homeschooling. This is our 9th year. Our daugher is 16 and our identical twin boys are 15. Jim homeschooled during middle school, but decided to go to the local high school. He didn't learn anything but he thought he was having lots of fun. We are so thankful that he decided to go into the Navy to get some structure in his life. God used lots of his experiences in Great Lakes to ultimately place Jim where he is now. I kept a blog about it all if you ever want to read about it on my home page. Anyway, I'm not a homeschooling expert, but I am certainly interested and willing, so please let your daughter-in-law know I'm here if she wants to contact me.
I look forward to getting to know you better! Ellen
Good Morning Jan, How are you doing? Hope all is well. We here at Ct. Moms are having a Get Together on January 17th. We would like for you to join us if you can. Just drop me a note here or on Ct. Moms. Hope you can make it.
Hi Jan watching the video of the flag raising. So proud. Never understood the meaning so much as now. Not much new here. I do get to talk to my son when they go to port on the week-ends in SD.. I miss him like you do.. I fell so sad today .I guess the loss of the father in Va really did it to me. We take so much for granted..Well gtg and get ready. Got a busy day ahead of me. You should join in on our CT site..Nice family..Take care. Love to see you there.
Hello,It's great that you and your husband still dance together ,I feel that it makes for a stronger bond.We no longer take lessons ( got very expensive ) but we still like to go dancing. It is my favorite way to exercise.
Hi Jan and I am happy to have a 'new' friend and an Irish one to boot. Tis a fair fine morning for us Irish women then! The picture at the beach -is that where you live? Looks like just the sort of place I would love! How's everyone this week?
Hi Jan, I am so sorry to hear about your son's friend. That is awful for the family and all of his friends. I'll be praying for family and friends that they may find peace. It saddens me so to think of the dear family he leaves behind. Please let us know if N4M's can do anything. Jeanette
MNice to hear from you. I was working at the school(long story) but I went part time when My son left... Needed some time to my self.. Well anyway right now I am working a few hours here and there at a restuarant in East Windsor. I help with Banquets... It's fun money... I will be looking for a job soon after summer time is over..I couldn't remember what part of Ct you live in. Message me if necessary. Do yu hear from your son often? I do but they will be going out again soon. then it will be rough...Well gtg so keep in touch...Have a great day!

Hi (again) Jan: Yes I was teaching a class (for work) in Windsor. I was staying at the Hampton Inn on Poquontok (sp--sorry)! My class was on Lamberton in the corporate area--off Day Hill Rd. I really enjoyed in and that Hampton was so accomodating and comfortable. I took a few nice drives in the late afternoons (since my bod was still on CST) and I enjoyed the cooler weather. Do you live close to Windsor? Our home office is there and at least twice a year I go to Hartford/Windsor. My son PIR'd on 7/3 and is in GL for A school in Operations Specialist(OS). When I talked to him last weekend, he said he was doing the Phase 1 & Phase 2 sessions and then he would be on hold for A school and start that in about 1 month. He didn't send me his new address yet because he was moving to another ship. He said that he likes his chief and the chief made him Master At Arms and he has to get a few hundred guys and girls mustered and doing what they should be--he is really enjoying it. I flew in on Monday (8/4) and flew home (8/8) Friday. My older son was in 4 years as a Damage Controlman and when he got out he became a fireman here in Baton Rouge. He really liked it too although he was gone every Christmas (first was in BC) and then the Persian Gulf each one after that. He was stationed in San Diego and was on the USS Essex.
Thank you for being my friend too and have a good night.
Hi Jan--welcome to LA. I haven't been on in about 1 week because I've been in CT! I was in Windsor teaching a class for the co that I work for. It was nice--more tolerable weather than LA although the storms on Thurs nite felt like home during our usual "monsoon season". LOL
Wow!! How exciting I have a new CT mom.... Welcome. So your son is also an Honor Guard. Does he enjoy it? My son has been in for almost 2 years. He went to A school down in Pennsacola. Has your son been in Bremerton at all? Has he been on any aircraft carriers? He sounds like a smart guy. Bet he has taken you flying. It is so cool. Do you live in the Southern or Northern part of CT? Enough questions. Where about in VT do you have a cabin. I bet the flag looks great.... Tell him congrats. Sounds like you live elsewhere.. Well keep in touch. Nice to meet you. Wow I just realized I had put this in the wrong spot...ttyl
neither am I--and our son left his camera, but no computer cord to be found. I had to take the discs to walmart, pay to download them to a cd, and then use that for what I needed. Oh, well, a few more minutes that I'm not counting till I see him on Friday!
