Ann my son is also in GC he is new. He got there in June and is in A school . We are trying to get a Chattanooga group if you would like to join us check out the Chattanooga group. All we do is eat and talk, It is good to meet in person.
Ann, Don't feel bad about forgetting my last name. I can't recall your's either. I don't even know if I ever asked you for your last name just like I forgot to ask for your phone number. It was hot at camp but we got to go to the pool every day plus we were in air conditioning for many activities . Also our cabins had air conditioning. The older camp doesn't have air conditioning but we were at the newer camp with the older girls.
Hi Ann, I heard from Hans again this morning. He is starting cleaning duty on the ship. They call it cranking. I guess he will do this for three months. He will have some liberty while in port. He said he and a friend are going whitewater rafting this Saturday. He also is mailing home a package from Australia. Hans is a very giving person. Well take care, Kim
Hi Ann, Heidi and I are back from the camp. We heard from Hans Sunday. He is in Australia near the Great Barrier Reef. They are in port on liberty right now. How cool is that! We know where he is and I have been able to look at newspaper articles about the ship. In fact they are going to let 500 people tour the ship. I am so jealous because all I have seen of Hans' ship so far is photos. Some day I'll see the ship in person. I read that the city where they are in port will have a big Fourth of July celebration. The area gets many tourists. I hope you have a great day.
Hello Ann, I've been home this week but the week before I helped with our VBS in the morning. Next week Heidi and I will be helping at Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville. Pray for me as I will be working with young girls. Most of the counselors are in their 20's so they have more energy than me. My age is probably closer to the girls' grandmothers' age LOL. Where do you go to church? I know Justin will look quite handsome in his dress whites. We haven't seen Hans in his dress whites yet. His ship was in port for over a month but they are out again. He called us while he was in port and emailed us quite a bit He explored Sasebo and hiked a mountain in the area with another sailor. If you like to give me your phone number I could contact you some time. I believe you know our last name and can get a hold of me that way. I still like to meet you sometime to visit, maybe at The Way with Coffee. The last time I visited at Tech, I realized I didn't get your number. Well, take care, Kim
Hi Ann, How are you today? I haven't talked to you in awhile. Hans called us Friday morning. Fortunately he called early as we were packing to go to the Smoky Mts. for the weekend. Burt has some vacation days he needs to use before June is over, so he took last Friday off. We spend Friday in the mountains and Saturday we went to Dollywood. We have season passes so we want to get our money worth out of them. The weather was beautiful Saturday. How is Justin doing? I knew you were going to see him in June. Hope everything is going well with you.
Good Morning Ann, I am finally getting back to you. The cruise was nice I only wish we were on a longer one. It was two nights and one day, We had a rain storm on the one day we were in Nassau. It did clear up in the afternoon and that was good. We went on a glass bottom boat tour in the rain to a coral reef and dodged the rain afterwards while shopping in the straw market. They sell more t-shirts than straw bags now and other items. We went to different jewelry stores and picked up the freebies they offered trying to get you in their store to buy their jewelry. I did upgrade a free small blue sapphire to a gold pendant. Of course we paid for the pendant but I already had a ring at home so a necklace worked for me. We bought some t-shirts when we were at the straw market. The sun came out in the afternoon while we were shopping. Afterwards we were tired, walked back to the ship, went to our room to put our bathsuits on, and then went up to the deck by the pool to enjoy sitting in the sunshine. Personally, If we did it again I would go for a longer cruise so if it was raining one day you probably have some nice days in there too. When we got back in port in the morning in Ft Lauderdale we went to the airport to get our rental car. We drove to Ft. Myers to visit my brother and his family. We spend the night at their home and returned the car at Ft. Myers' airport and flew home Saturday afternoon. We had a nice visit with my brother. They had bought an older home and had completely remodeled it and this was the first time we saw their home. The place is gorgeous!
Ann,
I'll tell you all about the cruise when we get back. I'm thinking we may need to spend Tuesday night in Nashville or Lebanon so we can get to the airport on time. Our flight leaves at 5:30 am! We would have to leave the house Wednesday morning by 2:00 am to make sure we were there on time to go through security and then catch our flight. I don't want to so tired before we even get started on our cruise.
Good Morning Ann,
It's a beautiful day even if it is chilly. I'm glad to hear Justin did well on his exam. You're right, he needs to do his part with the studying and trust the Lord for the results. The Lord didn't take him this far to let him fall. I told you about Hans being recognize as "Sailor of the Day" on May 2. Well, we received his award in the mail May 12 ( On Burt's and mine 30th anniversity). It contained the paper award with a letter from the captain and a newletter that had a photo of Hans and the captain on the bridge. Hans sent 10 copies of the newsletter home so we could share with the family. Isn't that too cool! He emailed yesterday and said he's been quite busy processing new sailors. He has been working late in the night and getting little sleep. He said it probably will be the same this week. His supervisors said his work won't go unrecognized. Oh, Burt and I are going on a mini cruise to the Bahamas for our anniversity. We leave Wednesday morning and return Saturday evening. Have a great day!
Hello Ann, We received an email from Hans. He is finally receiving our's and his grandparents' letters. He told us he received "The Sailor of the Day" award on Saturday, May the 2nd and felt so honored. He's been on the ship for only one month. We are so proud of him. I will come Friday . I'll be like the mailman, "rain or shine' I'll be there. Hoping for a break in the weather so we can get our gardean planted.
Ann, I am glad you are feeling better. I have been fighting a cold but I am almost over it. It was great talking to Hans Friday morning. Maybe we can connect this Friday when Heidi is at her Art class 1 - 2:30.
Good morning Ann, We got a phone call from Hans at 5:40 this morning! We talked to him for 30 minutes on a card he had bought. He is doing well. The connection wasn't real clear, in fact Burt said it sounded like Hans was talking through water. I teased and said of course he's in the Navy LOL. Hopefully the next time he calls we will have a better connection as we coudln't understand everything Hans said.
Ann, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but my computer had a virus and I couldn't get into the website. We got the problem fixed. I completely understand where you are coming from as I am in the same position. I wasn't sure if it was going to work for me either. Maybe you and I can meet sometime in town and just visit. It won't have to be anything fancy. We heard from Hans but I would have to tell you in person what he shared. It is good news but he specifically said do not put it on Navy for Moms . He said he will call home and he has figured out the time difference. Hopefully he has as I would take a three am call but hope it isn't that early. We have a 14 hour time difference between us. Basically when I wake up he is going to bed.
Hi Ann, there is a neat article about Hans' ship on navy.mil. They are in the Philippines. The marines are doing a joint exercise with their counterpart in the Philippines. The sailors will do community relations projects and also be able to go on tours the MWR provides for them. Knowing Hans he'll go on as many tours as he can and take lots of photos. Hopefully he'll send some home. I am also hoping he'll call because we haven't heard his voice since April 2.
