Thanks Gio! Yes it was so good to hear from him. We miss him so much, can't wait to see him in April. How's your son doing?

Thanks Gio! Yeah Robert wasn't suppose to be deployed for 6 months either, so be prepared - he may be leaving sooner. Robert's unit had just returned from training in Nevada when he got to the base; so we were really surprised when they left so soon. He only spent about 4 weeks at the base before leaving. He'll be on the ship the whole time also, and will supposedly be safer there than on land, but you know us moms - I'm still worried about him. He was really disappointed that he'd be gone for Christmas, but guess he'll have to get use to that. I have a feeling that he'll be deployed a lot during the next 4 years!

Hi Gio - Glad to hear that your son is happy with his assignment and is able to be home for awhile. Norfolk is suppose to be a nice base from what I hear. My son Robert was hoping to get there or Jacksonville, but he ended up in California! He wasn't there long before his unit got deployed. They left the 31st of July for at least 6 months and maybe longer to the west Pacific. He was emailing 2 or 3 times each day, but haven't heard anything for a week now. I'm hoping he's ok, probably just busy and sleeping. He's still having some regrets about joining, but has accepted that there's not much he can do about it for the next 4 years. Hope your son is happy with his decision and likes Virginia!

Hi Gio - It's good to hear that your son is doing well and likes Florida. We've lived here 38 years and love it. How long is his A-school? Robert only had 6 weeks, but they were very difficult. He did a lot of studying and not much else. He has no idea when he'll be able to come home again. He was hoping to come home at Christmas a few days and then go to New York to be with his girlfriend's family, but his unit will probably be deployed later this year; so don't know when or for how long. I keep telling him that if they're meant to be together it will happen. She's starting college next fall, but hoping to transfer out there somewhere next spring or fall. So we'll just have to take one day at a time and see what happens. Does your son have more school after Pensacola? Hopefully your son will end up where he'll be happy!

Hi Gio, Good to hear from you! GL seems like so long ago; so much has happened since. Robert was very disappointed in getting sent to CA. He fell in love with a girl in Orlando, and they were both so broken-hearted that he had to go so far away. She and I both have been crying all week since he left Monday night. He has been so disappointed with his Navy career so far. I'm hoping his spirit will improve as he adjusts to conditions at his base. So where is your son at now and what is he doing? Is he still in school? Robert thinks he'll probably have some schooling to complete at a later time, but doesn't know when. He's going to take some online classes in the mean time. Hope you're doing well and that your son is happy wherever he is.

Hi Gio, how's your son doing? Is he still in GL. It looks like he got to come home for Christmas. Our son Robert got to come home for 15 days. It was so wonderful. He's still in Pensacola awaiting classes. He had one this past week, but won't have the rest until May or June. He's so tired of cleaning & guard duty, & anxious to get his classes over and find out where he'll be stationed. At least he has his cell phone and a lot more freedom now, & is only 400 miles from us! He's got more spare time than he knows what to do with though. Our son is really glad he's back in Florida instead of Great Lakes. It's a little too cool up there for our Florida boy! How's your son holding up? Anyway, fill me in about your son

I know what you mean. Rusty will have so many people he will want to see in such a little time. I am sure he will not feel rested. I am just counting down the days until my sailor gets home.,

As soon as he was able, he got himself a cell phone. The phone has unlimited calling, texting and access to the internet. I text him and asked him to call me. When he called I gave him the information and he wrote it down.

Gio, I know that is frustrating. I am sorry. It seems like Rusty has so much more freedom now than he did. Where will your son be doing A-school? He is still in Great Lakes, right? Hang in there. I will be saying a special prayer for you. I hope you hear from him soon. Keep in touch.

Gio,
We get more excited as each day goes by. He is the last of our four to leave home. When you have them home and they are annoying and really get on your nerves you can't wait for the peace and quiet of them all being gone. Then one day they are and it sure is quiet and lonesome. We have put up a new ceiling fan and are in the process of painting his room. Not to sure if he will be please or made because we took his sexy posters down. I put them all neatly in a mailing tube so he still has them. He told us he is going to stay at home with us until after Christmas and them he is planning to visit a girlfriends house in PA. I'm not to happy with that decission, but there is nothing I can do about it. So I guess I will just smile and enjoy the time we will have with him. I sure hope you get to spend lots of time with your son.

Hey Gio, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving? Did you find out if your son is coming home for Christmas? I have spoke with Rusty everyday since he got his cell phone. Good thing I added unlimited text to my plan. It sems like he has a lot more freedom than I thought he would have. He will be flying home on December 19th. It has been alot easier being able to talk with him. Well I hope to talk to you soon. God Bless.

Gio,
No they did not ask anything about military ID numbers, social security number, etc. I told to the lady at continental that my son was recently out of Navy bootcampcoming and was coming home from GLfor the holidays. I also told her I would be scheduling and paying for the trip because he did not have a credit card of his own She said no problem and completed the arrangements for him.
