Hi Frenchie, Angie from DEPPERs here. I was just reading your "can't swim" discussion. You got some good info from ladies who I can vouch know their stuff! However, I would really urge you strongly to try and take a session or two of swim lessons between now and when you leave. Although you can get extra help to pass, once you are there and bonded with your DIVmates, you really won't want to fail and be Asmoed back! It is frustrating and discouraging not to be able to graduate with your DIV and a potentially expensive change of plans for anyone who was planning to attend your PIR!! Make sure they purchase Refundable or Exchangable tickets (or buy flight insurance) just in case.
The more physically and mentally prepared you are BEFORE going in, the more successful and enjoyable your experiance will be. Not trying to undo your confidence or scare you, but honey, you did join the NAVY! Swimming is one of the essential components of learning to be a Sailor. Although there are Sailors who serve in the sand, you will probably be around-and in- water your whole career. Set yourself up with a good start. There is much to learn and the days are long at BC, you don't want to miss out on other training and have to use what little down time you have taking basic swim lessons. Obviously, you are a smart cookie. Congrats on going in as an E-3. =) I'm sure you'll be fine. I wish you all the best! Let me know if you have any other questions along the way. God Bless. :)
Hi Frenchie,
My daughter is leaving on 1/7/10. She has requested to go earlier but that may or may not happen. Have you watch the boot camp and battle station videos them have some good information in them. Also if you have a question just put it out there and someone will be able to help you.
I read one of your post introducing yourself. My daughter is an officer in the Navy and I wish you the best as you prepare for B/C. If you aren't already start running!
