Hi Sharon, I posted pictures of the candles on the Blue Candle Lighting page. PS> I live in OK but I am from Toms River. My family all still lives there. My husband was in the Navy stationed in Colts Neck when I met him. He is from here (OK) so we moved out here after 9/11. Our son is leaving for boot camp soon. In fact, he stayed with my folks this summer and worked on the boardwalk in Seaside.....small world huh?

hi Sharon--yes, it is a small world--getting smaller all the time---hope to meet up with you one of these days..when you see Doc G say hi==you probably dont run into him being in L&D...what are you going back to school for?
my son Mike has been in for one year as well--he is alittle closer than Japan! my hubby is Paul Gilson, he is a Neurologist on staff..do you know him? r u a nurse there??
hi Sharon--my husband is on staff at Ocean Medical--what do you do there? it is my son --he is in Groton at the sub base--Japan sounds really exciting--how old is Tim?
Hey Sharon! I think you're the first Navy mom who has a son in Iwakuni. My son a Marine is stationed in Iwakuni. He's been there for 3 months now and is gearing up and training for the testing done for Navy SEALs. He starts the actual test in Jan. so for now is training for that. I think I'm the only Marine mom on this whole site. I love this site but somehow have little in common to the Navy moms. I'm on the Marine moms site and find many have sons in Iwakuni being I think a mostly Marine base there. Nice seeing your comment. VPMM LCpl Jesse Karen
Be sure and tell Tim thank you for his service from me this weekend. Sorry have not been on here much was having problems with my husbands blood pressure 238/145, but it is on the way back to normal now. Anthony being a corpsman was on the phone with me nearly everyday so worried about his step dad, hope the phone bill will not kill him. Have a great weekend,.
Very sorry did not get your message until today, for some reason it has not sent me anything from Japan moms all week so trying to catch up today. I was glad you got to talk to Tim, I saw that bridge walk and tour in the Iwakuni News paper on the base web site not sure if Anthony went or not will ask him this weekend. It usually takes between a week to 10 days for them to get a package there. There are customs regulations but for the most part our postmaster general here, also a personal friend, tells me what to declare and what not to. I send basically everything but liquor, and firearms. You are not suppose to send food or toiletres but have so far with no problems I just put a few articles of clothing in too and just claim them. There are guide lines on the Post office web site. Hope this helps. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Denise
Hello Sharon,
Glad to hear you have nice weather this weekend, looks like spring is here in Arkansas too and all the rain showers that go with it but it is at least warm. I talked with Anthony last night, seems all is well there. He got my Easter package, so now I will trying to make the 5 minute chocolate mug cake and test it before adding 1 to his next package. Just to let you know as May is approaching us, and Wal-Marts usually do a Memorial Day photo wall for all of us that have relatives in the service. You can take a picture of Tim up and choose from a variety of backrounds and then they display it on the wall and after Memorial Day you get the pictures last year I ended up with 4 so sent them off to some relatives too. I will let you know when we start ours here if you are interested as I am at Wal-Mart Sunday night through Friday morning (lol) I work there. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather going to plant some strawberries and flowers tomorrow. Denise
So glad you got to talk with him it does help so much. No Anthony does not have a car there he rides a bike and when they go off base they all either car pool or walk. Not sure how old Tim is but they can drink younger in Japan. Anthony just bought a brand new Ford F150 but it is here in the states and he will pick it up in Little Rock when he heads home. He makes payments while there and picks it up at dealer when he gets states side. Not sure about your son but Anthony also is going to college while there through the University of Maryland they have classes there as does one college from Texas. So very glad you did get through to him it is of great comfort to have phone as well as email connections, even when we had no phone for a month in Feb. due to bad ice storm I still had email and even broke down and used my cell phone for a call or two. Take care and have a great wek. Denise
Dear Sharon,
So glad you got to hear from Tim. By the way get use to the late night and early morning calls the time difference makes it hard to talk normal hours. The work out area must be great as my son also enjoys that quite a bit. Not sure what days he will have off I am lucky as Anthony has Saturday and Sunday off which is Friday and Saturday here in the states and those are my off days, although he does call home during the week sometimes and talks with his stepdad while I am at work. Glad he is settling in well. I think the transition is easier on them then us sometimes. Have a great weekend.
Ok here is the web site for Iwakuni http://www.iwakuni.usmc.mil/index.html
It takes a while after they get there to get a call. Took me about two weeks or so before I even got an email. Of course he has been there since September and has a cell phone there now so makes it much easier. There are pictures on my page please feel free to take a look. My heart goes out to you, I know how unsure of the Japan thing I was at first. Hang in there if I can help just let me know.
Dear Sharon.
My heart goes out to you but he will like Iwakuni, my son has been there since September, just talked to both him and his buddy yesterday. They are a great goup of kids, just a thought but once he gets settled and makes friends you may want to get a buddys phone # too. I have both my sons and his next door neighbors #s. It took me a couple of weeks before I first heard from him once he got the so hang in there. Do you have the Iwakuni web site if not let me know and I will forward it on to you. It makes me feel a little more in touch some times.
Dear Sharon,
How are you doing tonight? I'm fine.
I wish Tim all the best. What exactly is a see bee?
I hear it all the time.
I am proud of Kim. Poor thing is so bored though. SHe dying to see some countries. No one knows yet when the ship will pull out. The Sailors are all doing odd jobs.
Let me get going. I forgot my husband was home today, which means he's on the computer all day and night. SO I know I'm backlogged with messages.
Have a good night.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
