No problem Nancy - having recently visited my son in Groton, I can certainly see why someone would want a vehicle there. At 23, I would think he can handle the responsibility.

Hi Nancy - thanks so much for the compliment. I'm sorry I didn't see your question sooner, for some reason it didn't show up at the top of my page, and I just happened to scroll down and see it. Weird how the site works (or doesn't) sometimes...

Anyhow, nuke MMs can go either subs or surface (just aircraft carriers now, though there used to be nuclear powered cruisers). On submarines, there are a number of MM "specialties". Among the nukes on board you have the MMs working in M-Div (machinery division) - typically around 9 or ten on a boat. You also have the nuke MMs that have ELT training in the RL (reactor laboratory) division - usually four or five per boat. Up forward, you have the non-nuc MMs. The "A-gangers", or Auxiliary division - these guys work on the diesel that every boat has hooked to an electrical generator for emergency power, all of the boats hydraulics (for steering and diving), and most of the high pressure air system, and all of the boat's atmosphere control equipment. Since I got out of the Navy, they have converted the torpedomen (used to be TMs) to MM-W's (MM-weapons) to round out the bunch. There are roughly 5-6 each of the A-gangers and TMs on a boat - so altogether, there are about 25 machinist mates of one sort or another on a typical submarine.

Thanks bunches Nancy :) I tried a cheese dip with some cheese quesadilla today and at first he just licked the cheese repeatedly lol and finally ate into it. I will keep trying the idea and see what he does. Hopefully I will win this battle lol because fonso's mom sure lost it with fonso! And I cannot have another picky eater in my family! one is enough!

Hello Nancy! I just read that you will be in Clarksville for the weekend. Do you have family there? That's only 25 minutes away from me!
