Hey Toni, wanted to let you know I had a good time in NYC and enjoyed your company. Are you able to send me your email address? It is easier for me to email people as I can't get on N4M's at work.
hi there so sorry i did not get to spend more time with you - it was nice to meet you tho - i have a concussion and had a bad fall at work so the injury has scrambled my brain and after the ship tour - the taxi ride and craziness of the feast did me in. my head was spinning and headache was getting worse. anyway glad i got to see you and the other moms briefly- hope we can do a future trip under better circumstances. L
Nice to have met you Saturday...(came with lizzi)...too bad the feast was sooooo crowded. Lizzi was getting a headache so we ended up back at grand central for coffee....all was fine until the band and floats I agree.( was quite load and crowded)..we had such a nice time on the ship that the feast didnt matter ...until next time.....Carol Did you find any pictures?
Hi Toni, hope all is well. Hope you get to speak to Larry for Mother's Day. Call me or send a comment or PM before Memorial Day weekend so we can finalize our meeting and weekend.
Hi Toni, glad to hear from you and know that all is ok. I don't need the money for the hotel now as they will not charge it to my account until that day besides I will be splitting the gas with you so we can figure that out when we are in SI. I am so looking forward to this. Glad you got to see Larry for Easter. That's great that he wasn't drinking and gave up cigarettes. I wish my son would give those up. He is out at sea right now. Don't hear much from him when they are sailing. I miss his nightly call. My daughter actually only passed an entrance test to get into the LPN program for September. It is an 18 month program. She did just pass her test to be recertified as a certified nurse assistant and is now looking for a job. I've been watching the babies a lot and trying to help her other ways including financially. My apron was a fundraiser done by someone who is on the Truman. I had to go to the Truman site and go to the fund raising page and order it, but they only have Truman stuff. I'm sure you should be able to find a Navy apron or a Navyformoms apron by doing a search. Keep in touch and have a good week. Do you have my cell phone # ? If not I will pm it to you.
Hey Toni, is all OK? Haven't heard from you in a while. I did leave a message on your cell phone on April 6th. See comment below for details. I got my apron from the USS Harry S Truman for the BBQ. I hope you and family had a good Easter. Call me or pm me or leave a comment. Have a good week.
Hi Toni, I left a message on your cell phone. I booked the hotel today and hope the arrangements are ok with you. Jason is finally getting housing so he doesn't always have to sleep on the ship now. He is hoping to move in today. He's been better since his ship has been sailing. He is back with his original division and finished with his TAD (temporary alternate duty). Things are still tough with Jen and babies, it is costing me lots of $ and time. She did pass the entrance exam to get into the LPN program and was happy about that. She has an interview for the program on the 17th of this month and she has a test to recertify herself for her certified nurse assistant certificate to get a job. The big problem is no income until she gets a job so I am supporting them and she gets a job. Ex-boyfriend is skipping out on court ordered child support. The other big problem is day care. It is so much money that is all she will be working for. I don't know what the answer is anymore. Well, I have off this week and told her that I want to get some of my own things done this week. Still have to do my taxes. Saturday my grandson turned two. We had a party at my daughter's apartment. I was in charge of the paper goods, goodie bags, games, and prizes. The theme was Disney's Pixar Cars. I made games and got prizes that went with the theme. It was fun. I even found Little Debbie red racing car brownies to go along with his "Cars" theme birthday cake for dessert. Well gotta run and get some things done. Hope to hear from you soon.
Toni, The Navy building is on Hempstead Tpke across the street from Home Depot. I did not know about Fleet Week in Staten Island. When is it? If my schedule allows me to go, can we go together?
Hi Toni, no I haven't booked the hotel yet, but want to as soon as possible. Work, daughter problems, son problems, all holding me up. This weekend I have my grandson's 2nd birthday and I am doing all the kiddie stuff such as games (and I have to make them as his theme is Disney cars and we want theme oriented games--good thing I teach young ones and this comes naturally), prizes, decorations, and goodie bags. Then I've been shopping for daughter, mother and me. Plus doing daughter and babies wash. I have off next week, although the week is booked up with things but will get a chance then to book a room. Can you believe I still have not done my taxes? I will be doing my daughter's at the same time and Jason's state taxes as he did federal for free on line but they want to charge for the state and he said it is too late to get the free services from the Navy as they have already done that. I guess overnight and all the running around and helping at the BBQ will be too much for Barbara. I told her to go and just coach you and me on while we serve those service men and women their food. I am excited, sounds like fun. Each event I get to meet some more new moms and revisit with those I've met. It's been fun. I'll let you know when I book the room. Any preferences? I was just going with the hotel most moms are staying at and trying to get the cheapest room. Sound good?
Dear Toni,
How are you doing?
AGain I do thank you for your invitation to your van for the BBQ.
But, after I read about the BBQ and they need volunters, I'm better off not going.
If this was two years ago, I ran things like this all the time. I juggled food trays, ran around, cleaned, I was a hard worker. Alway volunteering.
I would be useless now, walking with my walker, trying to keep food trays from falling off my walker seat while in motion.
Not only that, I didn't know it was an over night stay.
SO I am going to pass this up. I am useless now for volunteer work.
Thank you again so much.
Hey Toni,
Thanks for your comments. It has been a trying time for everyone. We take it one day at a time and with prayers from all over, well, we sure are grateful. Earl gives his thanks as well.
Sounds good to me. Will Barbara be staying over night because the rooms are really only for two people? I'm sure they can find someone to share a room with Barbara if she chooses to stay over night. We will have to work on what we want to do when the Fleet week schedule comes out and work on a meet up time at your train station. Sounds like fun. Should I book a room? I will try to do that this weekend, unless you want to book it and then I will give you half when I see you.
What an angel you are to help the other moms out. I can't wait to meet you. Thank you so much for all your help. I'll keep you posted on what we will need help with. I am sure there is LOTS!
Toni, I'd like to make it a mini get a way if you are up to it. I'd like to spend some fun time on Sunday and then the work on Monday (which I'm sure will also be fun). Are you up to sharing a room with me where the other Navy moms are staying? I don't mind the traveling back and forth on the ferry, I'm used to ferries and actually enjoy them. I don't really talk much to the mom in Ronkonkoma, but have spoken to the mom in Ridge (like 5 minutes from me) but have not met either of them. We could book the hotel and work more on the exact times we will meet when we see a fleet week schedule and decide what we'd like to do. Is that ok? Do you still have my cell phone #? I have yours. Will talk soon, hope all is well with Larry. Is he driving those speed boats yet?
Hey, I was just visiting your page because I am trying to come up to New York from southeast TEXAS for Fleet Week!! I appreciate all you moms from the area trying to help. I have been to New York City once and absolutely LOVED it - but I just did what I was told!!!
I was reading your page and was amazed at our similarities!!
You son PIR'd on my son's birthday - he went to Kuwait on that day last year while I was in New York!!
My Sailor is also a MA - AND he is stationed in Virginia!! He is in Portsmouth not Norfolk!! I have visited there and it was nice!!
Did you son go to A school in TEXAS??? Mine didn't - he did his in Virginia Beach. Not real sure why!!
Well, looking forward to meeting you in May!! I can't believe the school let me have off!! They are not supposed to the day before or after any holiday - and that is our last week of school!! What a way to start a summer!!!
Dear Toni,
How are you doing?
This is a frightening thing, bad enough my dughter Kim is driving alone, but 6 hours extra, somethng is wrong. This was her third time of driving up, you'd think she'd remember some of the way!!
Next time she's here, I want my older daughter to check out this GPS. Maybe Kim isn't setting it right, I don't know. Kim is also in Norfork, Virginia. I can see getting lost and being an hour later, but not 6 hours. She's driving from the Bronx, New York to Norfork, VA, being around a 7 hour car ride.
Pat is two hours away from me, and her son used to do the drive alot. That's why I asked her, how long it took him.
Are you serious, you'd pick me up for the Fleet Week ! God bless you, thank you. I have no excuse not to show up then!! HAHA!!
I don't know if Pat told you about me. We have meet several times.
I have become a hermit, and it's ashame. I have canceled out on the lucheons that the New York moms went to.
I became deaf, on a good day, hard of hearing. SO I'm not much company anymore. I am a pleasant person, but I have difficulty hearing when their are people talking around me.
Not just that, what really stops me, is the traveling alone. I have permenent vertigo and walk with a cane, sometimes a walker. So being alone and traveling, does scare me alot. I hate this, because I was always active and into things.
I would love to join the Fleet Week, with you and Pat. Please let me know, if your offer still stands. Thank you so very much!! God bless you!
Hi Toni, I just noticed that the BBQ day is now on the 25th which is Monday. That is so much better for me. It doesn't matter to me when we go, you are the one driving so whatever you decide. Maybe you and I can go in the day before and do some fun Fleet Week stuff (schedule of events not up yet under 2009 NYC Fleet Week) then meet up with the moms at the SI hotel in the evening, then we will already be there for the help in the morning of the BBQ. Otherwise if you just want to do the BBQ we can go in on Monday. I will help you with the cost of gas. Is it ok for you to pick me up at your train station? Are you interested in staying overnight in the hotel? Just let me know as a mom is waiting on me to see if I am staying over night in the hotel. That's great that Larry passed the test for driving the patrol boats. That actually sounds like fun. Glad he is doing well. Jason ship is doing sea trials. Lots going on over here, I can't keep up. Thanks and will talk soon.
Toni, did you view the hotel the moms are staying at? It looks nice and includes breakfast and starts at $99 double occupancy. Are you interested? http://statenislandhotel.com/index.php
