Hey Cathy. I saw your post. I started a group for moms of sailors in Jacksonville. Come join us. We also have an Ombudsman in our group that might be able to help your son. I'm so sorry to hear that he is having trouble adjusting. It will be ok and everything will work out for him.

Cathy,

I am a member of the Jax group and saw your request for help.

Wow! I completely understand. My son is also at his first duty station. He's in Virginia Beach and is having a terrible time adjusting. I listen to all of my wonderderful Navy Gal Pals telling me about their Sailors and what fun they are having and accomplishments they are making while my son calls almost everyday miserable. Please tell me what I can do to help. I'd be happy to help your son with whatever he needs. Plus, not sure if your interested but my husband is in the car business. He is the GSM of a dealership just around the corner from NAS Jax and would be happy to help him with whatever he needs. Please let me know how we can help. I'll send you a friends request so that we can pm together and then I'll send you my telephone numbers if you or your son would like to call.

BTW - What is your son's name and how old is he?

Don't worry. We will help him out. There are a few moms in our group that have sailors at the same base, maybe one of their kids will show him around. If he would like to join us all for lunch Sat let me know. I am going to the base to pick up one of the female sailors that is joining us.

My son went through A school the summer of '06 and he said he the last of the "old ways" of teaching. Now there are classes at least where someone lectures the material to the students, but, on the other hand they all need to pass the tests the same week to move on together. I'm sorry to say it gets a lot harder but perhaps there is support/tutoring for Zac(?). I'll ask my son when he gets back (from Iraq) next month if there are any tips to offer Zac.

Hi Cathy. Yeah, I'll have Nick look for him and hang out with him. Nick was lucky and got a fellow shipmate to room with. Right now those guys really need eachother for friendship and morale support. It's hard to be away from family and friends. Nick calls me at least 4 to 5 times a day. And I ask him if he misses me or what and he's like like yeah alot!!! He called me at 1 in the morning yesterday just to say hi and goodnight. I know he's homesick and bored being pon hold so I just let him call me and talk about whatever is on his mind. After all, that's what NAVY MOMS do right!! Stand buy our beloved sailors!!!

Hi Cathy! That cold is something isn't it? I got it the night we returned from GL. Today is the first day I am able to return to work. I went through so many stages of this darn thing. I hope you got through yours quickly. I hope your now getting lots of phone calls. If not you will. Rusty calls a couple times a day and text non-stop. He is on hold and frustrated. He did get to take a class this week so that was good. I hope you have a great day today!

Saying goodbye was horrible! But, he called me this morning, so it makes me feel a little better. Enjoy every minute you have left!
