I am sorry to hear about Brett being color blind. Was there any jobs that he wss interested in? At least he is going to college. If he is interested in computers he might want to consider a career in the computer forensics. It is a rapidly growing field that is pretty much wide open. I wish you and Brett the best of luck.
Linda,
Keep in mind that even after the paperwork and ASVAB it may take a while before Brett leaves for BC. It took several months after Chad completed everything before he finally left for bc.
Linda, how funny. We are from Ohio too!!! Actually Montana's weather is soooo much more pleasant!!! (But don't tell anyone!!! We like that Montana is so densley populated!!!!! LOL!!!! ) Where are you from in Ohio? We are from Mansfield and Fredericktown (near Mount Vernon). We moved here 15 years ago and LOVE it!!!!
Ricky Crud its just a name for the sinus/cold/flu junk that all of the kids get in BC. They are all locked up in the "ships" (barracks) 24/7 for 8 weeks and they just keep passing it around. It's just a general name for "SICK"!!!! LOL ;0)
My son ended up with a really severe sinus infection and when he got to Pcola after BC, the doctors there told him he was really close to having brain damage if it weren't treated soon!!! ARGH!!! Most kids just get icky junk though. Don't worry.....he will do great. ;0)
Congrats on Tilly. An adult dog is not a bad way to go. I have worked with a breed rescue and have fostered adult dogs. A good friend of mine and I both have deaf dogs that are about the same age. We have taught them sign language. Yes there is paperwork just like everywhere else. It will get going and before you know it he will be leaving for GL.....
Thanks for your response to the meet-n-greet. I was thinking the So. Cal Moms were having their own meet-n-greet but I guess it's the same one as Cal Moms, right?
Hi Linda,
You are right, they have an answer of everything. I liked his respose though....it was pretty good. It doesn't matter if they go in the Navy or not, they will be leaving soon to got to work or school. My youngest is telling me he wants to go to college out of state right after high school. We will see what happens. Sorry to hear about the puppy on hold. When it is the right time it will come if it is meant to be. Hang in there and I'm sure that Brett is a little nervous and probably excited too.
DEP is deferred entry program. That is what they are in while waiting to go to BC (bolot camp). They have meetings to attend, checking in with their recruiter start learning some of the stuff they will need to know in basic. I am starting to have some bad days. It is on about 2 weeks before Chad leaves and some days I just worry and cry and others I laugh we do things together. He called me a work today to tell me a joke. After boot camp he will have acess to email (so I am told) and it will be easier to communicate with him. chad is also very smart and has a near photographic memory but he is not a sutdent. I was happy that he got a b average in school. When he wants something he will work very hard for it. Today is his last day at his job. It is hard for me. He has had that job since he was 16. They said they will miss him because "he really works." Try looking at it that Brett is going to learn something in the Navy. He will be using his brain/mind for his job. take care and I look forward ti seeing you at the meet and greet.
Chad tells me the same thing aboutcrying. I made him ad deal, I won't cry when he is around if he will tell me what is going on. Chad is 19 and will turn 20 while in BC. He won't let me send him a card or anything. I agreed to that for now. My husband bought me a puppy a few years ago when we were thinking we might want another child. She is just like another child in many ways and is a great comfort to me. I bought him a puppy about 2 years ago. Linda, Chad has wanted to be in the Navy since he was 5 years old and because he had a congenital abnotmality in his chest that was corrected years ago he had to get a waiver. That about took an anct of congress but he pushed through it and would tell me he would be fine. Tell your son that mother birds kick the babies out of the nest so they will learn to fly and you are not read for him to fly yet....lol. Humor helps. Also the process will probably take longer than you think. My son is going in the nuke program and he was in DEP for about 8 months so there is still a little time.
Hi Linda,
My son is Chad and he will be leaving on 2/10. He is my oldest and I have another son who will be leaving for college next year. Hang in there. even though I am very proud of chad, I was scared and the tears would stop at times. Your words, I miss him already and he is not even gone hit home for me. I kept telling myself that I had time ( he was in DEP for about 8 months. We are having a party for him this weekend (in part a good luck and Birthday party as his bday will be while he in in BC). I put everything off until the past 3 weeks hoping that this day wouldn't come. Well it is coming even if I don't want it to and coming fast. I still cry now and then but mostly from being so proud of him for following what he wants to do. I too come for a family who has served their county. My brother has 27 years in the Navy and both of his grandfathers served in the Navy. We also have members that are in the Marines and the Army so serving is not a problem. I will be at the first meet and greet and hope to see you there.
I received his first letter on week four Last Thursday, and received his Grad Pack on Monday (week five). I don't know how it works, but other Recruits came in on a later date (like five days later) and their parents received lots of letters, received grad packs first. IIts all good though, all worth the wait. I am expecting a letter tomorrow. :-) He writes on Sundays. Take care
I would love to get together and chit chat. I am reallly close with my fiances mom and I bet she would love to meet other Navy mothers such as yourself.
Im pretty new at this whole thing but if you have anything specific that you want to know about boot camp and PIR feel free to ask me and I will try my best to help you out. :)
Hi Linda,
My name is Pranee and my son is in BC, I just received his grad pack and ready to head out to GL on Feb 6 for his PIR. I work in Pomona and have friends that live in your area. I'm close by if you need to talk. I believe this is the best decision my son made, he enlisted in June but had to wait til Dec. He's half way through this, I received a phone call for 2 min. and 1 letter so far. Its hard but I know I need to let go. I am so PROUD I would love to share my story with you. Here's my email address, contact me so I can give you my number, if you like. Just let me know that you are sending me an email. I hardly check it! I am always on N4M.
Hi Linda, I'm still finding places on the website that I didn't know about. I'm not great at this stuff either although my chlildren have helped me - a lot!!
Spencer is doing much better, thank you. It's amazing how quickly he bounced back, but I know that all the prayers helped. I didn't go to CA as he decided he didn't need me, but a part of me wishes I had...I would just like to hug him, for my sake! But I know he's a big boy (okay, man) and doesn't need me rushing out to reassure myself. :0) They grow up so quickly!
Hi,
I am glad that what I wrote helped. I had a hard time when Bryan left. I sucked it up and then it came out in spurts! I cannot tell you that I am truly overjoyed that Bryan has found something he loves and does well. He seems to be living life to its fullest and enjoying every moment. Tears are good! I use them a lot! They are very healing!
Glad to know you are somewhat close to me! Nice to met you!
I just got home from work and my husb told me gil leave to a hotel Sun night with his recruit then flies out of San Diego airport on TUES to Greatg Lakes. Of course Gil is not home but now its starting to hit me. Lets go ahead and get together. Pleas send me your tele num if you are ok with it..WarmRegards..Yolanda
