Hi Julie yes my son just Graduated on 05-21-09. He signed up for the Navy about 3 months ago and is going as a hospital corpsman. He is not scheduled to leave for boot camp until January 5, 2010 but has put in to go earlier if his school opens up. He is very excited about going and we are very proud of him for making this decision.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Lynn
Julie, I am really new at this. No, my son graduate in 06 and is currently on his third deployment. I understand from the news that his ship helped rescue the people adrift on the raft in Somalia over the weekend..
Just thought I would check in whith you and see how you are doing. How is Cory? Cody (michelle's son) was coming over to the house and to church with us regularly until he deployed. we'll miss him while he's gone. There is a new young sailor that just arrived from Japan who may join us next weekend. Nic (female hospital corpsman) from the USS Carl Vinson comes over once or twice a month (she's really busy). And so things keep plugging along :)
LOL . . . I can't even keep track of what DAY it is . . . not having a set M-F schedule gets me ALL confused:)!
Had a GREAT time this morning . . . we did a 'quest' for clues, searched the store for prizes, and kicked off the summer reading program . . . it was a BLAST:)!
Better go make dinner . . . I can hear Bruce 'rummaging' around in the kitchen . . .
GIANT HUGS:)!
Hi Julie,
Thank you for keeping in touch with me. I don't normally get the chance to go on-line during the weekends because I had my internet turned off at home after Billy left for bootcamp. But, I'm house and pet sitting until Monday for my boss who has a nice home here in Prescott Lakes. I'm encouraged to make myself at home when I'm here which includes using their computers and internet. Up until a few days ago, we were having some pretty warm weather also (nothing like you guys of course). Lately, we've been cool with alot of rain. No complaints, the rain is always needed here in AZ. Sorry that you've been having to work so many long hours. At least you know you have some job security!! I'm glad that everything is fine with Cory. Is he doing some kind of course study similar to A-School to earn his Gunner's Mate rating? I'm sure you're excited to see him in July! Billy is doing good also. Still working on his C-Schools in San Diego. He came home this weekend because he has an extra day off for the holiday. I've been really spoiled with having him stationed so close to home. His drive home yesterday was not without incident. His truck broke down on the way here. Luck was on our side though because he was only about 8 miles from home when it happened. A friend of ours picked the truck up and towed it to his place. We were just hoping it was nothing serious thinking that maybe Billy would end up having to fly back to S.D. Again, luck was on our side - it turned out to be the fuel pump and it's fixed and Billy has his wheels back. Since I'm house sitting this weekend, Billy has our place in P.V. to himself. He's having a couple of friends over tonight. We had breakfast together this morning after we picked up his truck and tomorrow afternoon he will be joining me here and stay overnight then leave sometime Monday morning. Billy got word this week that he passed his Petty Officer 3rd class exam and is being advanced. He's real happy about that. When I get back home, I will look up the name of the Banner company. They sent me a promotional email the other day, but I think I deleted it. Anyway, you can get your first banner for free, you just pay the shipping. I will get that info for you. I found a company called Cafe Press (I think) and I bought a T-shirt which has Billy's ship the USS Howard patch design on it. And, I also got a yard sign with the same design.
Sorry to ramble on. You can tell that I don't have much to do right now. Thanks again for the messages. I've enjoyed keeping in touch with you.
Hi Julie,
Yes believe it or not I am actually online. I am at the airport on my way to see Bryan in Mississippi. Just going for a short (long) weekend but I am sooooo looking forward to it.
Work, like you, has been stressful. I think I told you that this was my last tax season and I am now managing a Orthopedic doctors group here in Tucson. Not big on managing staff but so far it has been challenging and I am learning...or at least that is what I tell myself.
I am going to get the details regarding San Diego this weekend. I think the ships ceremony is the end of October.
Sounds like Cory is doing good. Bryan has his good days (like finding Mariah, a girl from the ship) for a short time and life is great. And then they break up and he lets that get under his skin and the military is so so. But I am sure every sailor has those moments. Well I guess for now that is enough. I am going to try and have weekends off from now on so maybe we can plan the trip to Casa Grande.
Hugs,
Joan
LOL . . . I thought we might want to go for a coffee 'splurge' . . .
The computer connection was out for almost two days . . . I picked up a couple shifts at work so I've been 'out of touch' . . .
Anyway . . . off to a wedding in a half hour:)!
Talk to you soon . . . GIANT HUGS:)!
Wow Julie you have every right to be so proud about Cory, my daughter Britney Meyer Graduated from Peoria in 2006 and is now in Boot Camp at Great lakes I will be attending her Graduation on the 12th of next month so I know how you feel. May God bless all the Branches of the Service and keep them all safe. Hey Peoria is coming up on 100 years pretty soon.
Yea:)! That's great news . . . I've heard of the 'on-the-job' training . . . he can really decide whether it's for him or not:)!
LOL . . . I'm more worried about my stubby, pudgy legs keeping up with YOU . . . :)! I've been wearing my pedometer again . . . I feel a lot better about being tired after work when I've already 'clocked' 5 or more miles . . . :)! Of course, it will be a totally DIFFERENT story when it's on 'mountain' trails instead of carpet (with air-conditioning) . . . LOL:)!
GIANT HUGS to you:)!
Hi, good to hear from you. I know, I can't believe this heat. We were in San Diego over the weekend visiting family, it was beautiful. My brother is sick, so I wanted to go and check on him. My son will be in L.A. for school until the end of July, then deploys sometime after that. I think his deployment is for 9 months. My daughter is in the Banner fellows nursing program, she will be done October of this year. She is in OB and Peds right now, and I think she does go to the state hospital, but it is her last rotation. I think she starts that one in July. That is so hard that your son had to leave so suddenly, do you know how long he will be gone? Take care.
OMG Julie...AAAHHH, I just read your post. Yes, anytime you want to meet for shots of Navy Mom Tequila, I'm there for you! For crying out loud. Did he know this might be an option for him. If this was Tyler and this happened, he would be excited out of his mind. He wanted to do that going in, but I begged him to just pick something he could "fall back on" first. ....and so far, he's been happy about it. I will say a prayer everynight! You've been so busy! I'd be a little stir crazy working that many days straight! Whew. We had our annual conference over the past two days. Successful....but now I have to get busy with graduation stuff. Oh, I totally have to brag. Abbey has been in track polevaulting...our school is just 3-A, but she got third at state last Saturday, broke the school record, and got 6 personal records. It was a great night for her, and Dad (he volunteer coached the vaulters, it was the 1st year they brought it back to our school) I don't know which one was more excited. :o) Anyhoo that's the update here. We have to get together soon. What about the 1st week of June or so?
Julie, it was my pleasure to do it. I was raised military and have several family members that were military along with my son now a Sailor, so I know how underappreciated they can be. It was a good idea that you had to do this. Maybe next year it will have more participation. The Army recruiter was really funny. His expression of surprise was a joy to observe. The Navy recruiters were thankful for the recognition. (One of them has personal ties to my son. His mom was one of my son's day care teachers and when I had to start doing overtime before the day care opened, this mom let me drop my son off at her house. So the recruiter who was a senior in high school at the time, got to keep an eye on his brothers and my son while his mom got ready for work. They had moved back to the Northeast and we had not seen them for years - then my son walks into the recruiting station with his recruiter and Boats asked my son if his mothers name is Anita. So they ended up talking about old times. My be why my son was well taken care of by the recruiters during DEP?) Anyway, I enjoyed it.
Julie, been talking to so of my friends down there.. heard you got a heat wave. It's too early for that. You poor thing. I used to hate when it got hot too soon.. that meant my AC bill would be sky high all summer.
Anyway, I'm here trying to get through Mike first deployment. It's a short trip.. only a week or so and he will be back. Even though he is in Japan, I miss him dearly.
He is also spending money like there is no end to it and that really bugs me. I don't know how to get it through his head that he needs to save.
How's Corey and the pending nuptials? You must be crazy-busy.
Hi Julie. Yeah, they would have been surprised if I'd just shown up, but I called to see how many were in that office. Only 2, but come to find it, it was the lady who picked Tyler up to leave for boot camp. She was already gone, but he was very happy. We had a good chat. He was actually in Afghanistan before. Anyhoo, it was a great idea. THANK YOU! It was a great idea.
