Hi Ellen, My son is a CM sea bee reservist also. After basic at Great Lakes, (2 yrs ago), he went to Port Hueneme for a month or so. Then after Port Hueneme he drilled once a month at Great Lakes or Ft. McCoy,WI. My pic is of us at the beach at Port Hueneme. I worked a flight that terminated in LAX while he was there and went to the base for the weekend to visit. It was great to go and really see and be a part of what they do there. My son just got back yesterday from some pre-deployment training. A few days at Port Hueneme and then out to San Jose, Calif for some war games training for 3 weeks in the desert. My son deploys in January. I really enjoyed seeing him today. He brought me a Navy Mom T-shirt and an MRE. I bought him an american flag! Talk to you soon, Robin K
Hi Ellen (pardon my late response, I still forget to check my wall for comments). We're doing great! Matt's home now and officially on reserve status. The graduation was small, but very intimate and heart-warming. There was a great feeling of comaraderie among the 5 sailors graduating in Matt's class. Matt was awarded a "Distinguished Graduate" cerftificate for his high GPA, and another one for having the Highest GPA in the class. I'm SO glad I was there to see it all! His first weekend duty is this weekend. Since we're only about 5 minutes from the base, he won't have to stay over night. He also got a full time job as a mechanic at a speed shop and he loves it!
How's you son doing? He should be just about through A school, now right? There were some newer recruits at Matt's graduation, I wonder if he was among them?
Hi Ellen, my son went to A school at Port Huneme also, he loved California. From there he went to Mississippi, which he hated! And he has recently returned from Iraq.
Hi Ellen - Ben has benn home for 3 weeks and went for his first reserve weekend yesterday - he has settled back into civilian life and has started working and seems happy. When does your son graduate? Ben really misses California = he loved it there. I did not go to his graduation - too far to go!!!!!
Hi Ellen, how are you and your family? How is your Sailor doing? Kyle is almost done with A-school and should be home in about 3ish weeks to visit before heading to San Diego. I miss him terribly so I am really looking forward to seeing him again. Hope your doing well!! Shirley
Hi Ellen, How are you doing? I'm doing ok, I'm in a emotional rut again. I was with Matt last weekend and can't seem to let him go. Pray for me. Lets keep in touch better because you are a good friend. :)
Hi Ellen, I told my daughter about your son last night & she said if he's in A school, I can't talk to him.
But she thought it was great that you are near by.
Have a good day!!

Ellen, Matt's doing well. I did find out more about his orders. "Separation" is his transition from Active (while in school) to reserves, which is what he signed up for. He graduates on June 5 and we'll be picking him up and bringing him home. His duty station is a "whopping" 4 miles from our house! LOL I see by your wall that you've met a lot of other moms with sons or daughters at Port H. That's great! I had the pleasure of meeting Lelia's son Ben while we were at Pt. H for a reunion with Matt. I haven't met many other Mom's with reservists there, though. And once Matt graduates, I'll probably move on to other groups (but will check in now and again to help answer any questions I can). It's great to meet you!
My son graduates from Port H this coming Wed. and then comes home - he has loved California and does not want to leave - he said that A school has been great - he is a CM Seabee and a reservist.
Hi Ellen, Haven't really met anyone mom who has a CM Seabee and a Reservist so hi again.
He loves being a CM Seabee. He has been home since Jan. from Port Hueneme. Tried to go Active and was denied.
So has been going to school to finish his AA in Automotive Technology. He doesn't want to be a mechanic, he wants to be a police officer. Applied lots of places. Passed the physical with flying colors and also passed the written exam just fine. But the oral exams are killer.
So he is working part time at a juvenile detention dept. for the county to get experience. Plus he just got another job with working in a warehouse shipping weapons and military equipment. So his Navy experience has helped him a lot.
But be warned when your son comes home. I don't know where he is as far as schooling/work is, but it is quite a switch for him to get back to "normal " unlike the rest of the Navy Active duty guys here. It took my son several months to settle down.
He isn't too keen with his drill weekends. They don't do much so that is bad. But he did put in a request to be mobilized and it looked like it will be granted. So he may go to Iraq in July. So scary times are ahead for me.
So keep me posted on your son. Being a Seabee is great. I have a sweatshirt with a Seabee logo that I got in Port H. and it is quite a conversation piece, LOL

Hi there!! Kyle is in P-cola now and waiting who knows how long for A-school. He does like it there though. Was so cool to meet you as well. What a lifetime experience!!!! How is your son and where is he now??
Hi Ellen, I'm glad all is well with you. Joseph is doing fine. He is a little bored but he has his cell phone, lap top and civlian clothes so he will be ok. He sounds good. He thinks that he might be starting school in about 2 weeks. The first two weeks would be in Great Lakesand then the rest would be in San Diego. I'm glad Curtis is doing well and his A school wasn't put on hold. Have a good weekend and will talk to you soon.
Ellen, It was very nice to meet you. Was't graduation great. They all looked so good. It was hard saying goodbye on Sunday, the weekend just went so fast. Is Curtis still in Great Lakes? Joe was supposed to go to San Diego on Tuesday but was told that his A school was on hold for 1-4 months or pooibly until october because of budgetary reasons. So he is a little dissapointed. Hope to talk to you soon.
Ellen, wasn't the graduation wonderful! My son looked so good! he has talked so positive about the Navy. Sorry I didn't make it to the Meet and Greet, we got a late start. I am typing this in my hotel room. Gotta leave tomorrow afternoon. hate to leave him, but know that he will do well. I am a very proud Mom! :D
Hi Ellen, I got the call at 2:00 this afternoon my son is a sailor. He sounded so tired but was happy that this is behind him. He said he has been up since 6:00 Sunday morning. He also sounded like he was really missing us. Can't wait to see him on Friday. He will be easy to spot because he is playing in the band. He is really tall and he plays the clarinet. Have a safe trip and I am looking forward to meeting you.
H Ellen, congratulations to you and your son you must be so proud. Joseph goes tommorrow night . Hope to get that call on Monday. Say an extra prayer for Div 924 that they all make it.
