Hi Marianne. My son is at CL. He graduated FMTB May 8 and is with 2/2- 2nd battalion/2nd Marine, Fox Company. He got exactly what he asked for, to be assigned to a Marine infantry unit. They are scheduled to be deployed this Nov. to Afghanistan. Do you know if your son wants to stay with the Marines after FMTB? I'd be lying if I told you I was happy about his assignment but we've raised our kids trying not to interfer with their career decisions. (My hubby and I spent too much time being unhappy by trying to do what our parents wanted, not what we really wanted). Anyway, he is very happy minus being seperated from his girlfriend. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions and if I can answer, I will. Oh- I told my son what happened with your son at the airport. He said he was advised not to wear a uniform during air travel and personally, he doesn't care for the attention that it draws. The marines are very strict with their uniforms--they aren't even allowed to wear their cammies into town.
Thanks so much for the encouraging words i wrote to him today and i been constantly talking with the father that if its his will Barron will pass his swimming test the next time he goes to take it, thanks and continue to pray for us and we will do the same for you all that is how us christians do it

Thanks, I am not sure what time my flight gets in. But hopefully my husband and I can make it. I am hoping Derek remembers to change the names for PIR but who knows with him. I talked to him yesterday and told him to but we will see. I am still going to call the recruiter and see what he can do.
Marianne, no phone call yet. Maybe his division hasn't gotten to make one yet. I've talked to his gf and his father and they haven't received one either. I'm so sorry to hear about your son. That makes me sad. But with their moms they are a little weaker than when they talk to others, so it's us for sure. Keep up the prayers and we will be there soon to give them that hug. We are proud of them no matter what, but it's the unknowing that's hard. This is where God teaches us patience - our kids. God bless you, Chris
Marianne, I noticed your son is in Ship 11, div 061. My son is in ship 11, div 062, also PIR on 1/9/09. This is exciting and yet tough on us moms, I know. I'm sure they'll do great. Hope to see you in GL on the 9th as long as they hang in there and pass all their tests and behave. Ha!
Marianne, you're welcome. Anything I can help you with just ask. Your job is to be relentlessly encouraging even though you're feeling awful about what they must be going through. Never let them hear you cry, tell them how proud you are of them, commiserate a little so they know you understand what they're going through but remind them that they're strong and worthy and will make a wonderful sailor at the end of boot camp. I promise you, both you and Fred will get through this and be all the stronger for it.
Hi Marianne...Oh yeah....do I know about the clothes in the box!! His shirt had his cologne on it still and I cried until I didn't think I could stop!! But I actually washed all his clothes in the laundry basket a few days later...I had to have my husband read your comment 'cuz I think he thought I was going around the bend until he read another mom's pain about the shirt!! I've actually gotten 2 calls and 2 letters since the 29th of Oct.from Marcus..1 of those calls was yesterday. He's had a headache for a week but I have to try and not worry. Of course my first instinct was to get in the car and start out for Great Lakes...LOL.we'll just have to see...he's still very homesick but sounded better than the call on the 15th...just remember you are not alone in any of this...we're here for you..keep in touch...
Hi Marianne:
My son will be in school in Pensecola, Florida for approx 1 year, then he goes to San Diego for 8 weeks. After that, we aren't sure. I know he wants to be somewhere warm. I think he would love San Diego. Plus, it would be much closer to me!!
Hi, My Son left Nov 12 too, I miss him like crazy, cant even think straight, so finding this site has been great THANK YOU ! I to can not wait for a letter I have always been a hand on Mom, this is hard not knowing what he is doing day by day.you know how us Moms are thinking they need us for everything ha some times I thought my son did ha, He will show me right,
Marianne:
My son arrived in Chicago tonight at 8:30 EST. Our sons will be there at the same time. This site has been a livesaver for me. Tom is my oldest child also. It has been the most difficult thing ever. I hope you don't mind if I add you as a friend since we will be going through this together! Where is your son going after basic?
Ohhhh! Marianne, Your boy sounds precious! You must be so proud. My son, Blake, is the oldest of 4 and left for BC 8 looong weeks ago. Believe me, I understand how you feel. It "physically" hurts and there are times when feel like someone has cut out your heart with a butter knife. I will not lie..there are some rough days...BUT I am now packing my suitcase to go to his PIR (Graduation) this Friday!!! It does get better!!!
The "unknown" of all of it is by far, the worst. As moms, that goes against every maternal instinct we have!LOL! I was so afraid that the Leaders were going to be "mean" to my baby, I could hardly stand it!! BUT, the difference in my son in just a few short weeks is amazing!! He was always a great kid, but now he sounds, acts, thinks and responds like a man!!
These first few weeks are the hardest because of the lack of communication, but this site is a lifeline!! I didn't find it until about 1 week after my son left....What a difference it has made. We all understand how you feel and there is nothing you can't ask anybody...You will make "friends for life" and remember this...so will your son!!
We have raised strong boys and they are becoming even stronger men!! (We moms just don't like the process:) He is going to do great!! So will you!!
you are so welcome. Believe me it will be hard. I told my son it's harder on the parents since we have no idea what is happening. He just laughed. Told him just wait to you have kids. It will be about 4 days until you get the box and about 2 more until you get the form letter. It has been 3 weeks today and i still have no letter from him. So be ready for that. Take care he will be find you raised him right..
