Looking at Friday, 10/16 or 10/23 in the North Lake Mall area for the CLT get together. Leave a comment on the NC mom's group discussion as to the best date for you. Hope you are able to make it.

Anita, Key West NAS is an international flight training base. She should have an interesting duty there if she gets involved with outside activites.

Anita, Dam Neck is just below Little Creek Amphib. It is right out on the beach as well. I believe the South gate of Little Creek opens up to Dam Neck. If your daughter is assigned to a specific ship there are pages set up for a lot of the individual ships. Key West I'm not sure of. There may be a page set up just for Key West moms. I've not really checked since Chris won't get any orders until at least the end of next week. Right now I keep tabs on the page that a mom set up for his rating (Intelligence Specialist). One of my friends just joined recently and I think she joined her son's carrier page because I've not seen her join the NC page. Another friend who I meet through the NC page has stopped following the NC page and only follows her son's ship's page now. She is not on so much as his ship just returned to Norfolk from deployment. I am currently taking some classes at the school where she teaches so I see her quite often. I'm transferring to Western Piedmont soon to start degree classes.
I know Key West will be a big change for Angela weather wise. It's a beautiful place to visit (not sure I'd want to live there). I went with a friend about 5 years ago. The snorkling was awesome.
Does you daughter at home want to go into the same rating as Angela or is she just considering military in general right now? At this time, with the economy the way it is, I believe it's an excellent choice. I hate the thought of my son being half way round the world from me but he chose this job so I have to live with it. He's happy and that's supposed to be what counts. right? There is never an easy time to see them leave home.
I'm glad you will get to spend some time with your daughter soon. Chris will likely be home for a while the following week. That will depend on how long he has to wait for his "C" school to begin. He will remain at Dam Neck for his specialty traning. He's looking forward to getting out into the fleet.
I'd better get for now but you should have my email addy and I look forward to talking with you again. Have a great day and a Blessed Easter.
Navy Hugs,
Mary

Hi Anita, I don't get on the NC site very much but I do come on and read about once a week. I'm also in Hickory, my son Chris is at Dam Neck finishing his "A" school for IS. If all goes well, he will grad "A" school next week and then be on hold for (who knows how long?) waiting to class up for "C" school. He may get to come home for a couple of weeks. Good luck to Angela. There are a couple of other moms here in Hickory also but they don't get to the NC page often either, their sons are already in the fleet and they go to the respective ship's pages. Have a good evening and hope to hear from you.

Anita, Jonathan is in Norfolk and he seems to be happy. Hope your daughter is doing good. She will make friends easy. My son has made some friends since he has been at Norfolk and has come across some that he was at GL with. Take care and I will talk to you soon.

Anita, Clay has been at Key West since Oct 2007. I visited him at Key West in February 2008 and we had a great time. His duty there will be over in Oct 2010 and I have another trip planned for Feb 2010 before he leaves.

What is Angela's Rank (duties)? Since she is just out of GL, I expect for her to be living on base, but I don't know where the enlisted barracks are. Clay, being a YN2, lives off base on the island of Key West and works part-time at a bar on Duvall Street. He plays on the softball team and loves Zachery Point. Has Angela ever been to Key West?

I know it seems like alot. Letting go seems to be so hard. But know that she is doing something worthwhile and good for herself. I still have one in middle school at home, she is trying to decide where to go and what to do still. When does Angela leave for Key West? My daughter Katie is in Pensacola now waiting to start schooling.

It was so good to hear from you Anita. I am so glad Angela is doing well. Tessie left Pensacola back in January, She is now at her permanent station in Lamour Ca. Calif. is alot further than we had hoped, but she has grown to like it there. She is doing a desk job right now until her schooling starts. She is touring all over CA. She went to Disneyland with a friend a few weeks ago. We are planning a trip there, but can't afford it until next summer, (hopefully).
Tessie was able to come home for Christmas and we went to see her in Pensacola....now who knows....I wish she was closer.
Anyway, stay in touch and keep us updated on Angela's career.
Take Care,
Linda

Hi! Lorna is doing well in her first post in Norfolk. She likes all the people she works with and is learning the job. She will go to Key West with her squadren (sp?) in April and then to New York in June. The separation from Oren is very hard on them both. He finally began his A school in Great Lakes but will not be in Norfolk until July or August. She hopes to visit him in May up in Great Lakes.

Hi Anita, Good to hear from you. Jonathan is doing great, he is still in GL. He should be leaving around the 18 March. We don't know where he is going yet. He changed his rate around I think Sept. He was in advanced computors, but he had a hard time in his class and they gave him a chance to change his rate. He changed to BM and he really likes this class! I'm glade to hear that Angela is doing good. Keep in touch and I will talk to you soon. Brenda

How are things? Lorna finished her A school this past week and over the weekend we moved her to Virginia Beach as she is to be stationed in Norfolk. She is going to live off base with her sister in Chesapeake until Oren gets done with his A school at the Great Lakes this summer. I am so happy the sisters get some time together!

Hi - it's nice to hear that things are going well for Angela. I miss hearing about our bc group. Cait is still at Great Lakes. I think she would like to be somewhere else for a change. She hurt her knee getting out of her rack (I think that's what she's been calling her bed) It must be like a loft bunk with the desk underneath. She slipped on the little ladder. She twisted her knee and it is quite swollen and black and blue. She is on crutches for the next week then they will reevaluate. She made it all the way through boot camp and now this -- sigh... Does Angela get to come home for Thanksgiving? Cait has "dog duty" that day. Although.... since she has been taken off duty that may free her up. I'll have to call!

Hi Anita! PIR was very moving! Lorna got to carry one flag for her division and Oren's division got very high ranking. He did physical training with the SEALS while up there and dropped 35 lbs in 2 months. We had a huge blessing in that although Lorna was grad and go the Navy was unable to get her on a flight out that Friday so she got to spend that day with us and Oren! Huge blessing to this mothers heart. She is in Meridian, Miss now. It is a small naval air base. Her A school is computer based and her classes have started. She plans to work hard and get done before Christmas. Oren remains in the GL for his A school and his classes have not started yet. They will be home for Christmas. Glad Pensacola is a hit. I grew up on the Atlantic coast side of Fla.

How are things on the other side of recruit training? Lorna and Oren have PIR in less than 2 days. Lorna is grad and go to MI and Oren has A school in the Great Lakes.

Hey Anita-
Sorry I didn't get back to you for so long after your kind invitation to be on your friends list--you're my first! When you wrote, my son, Ben, was actually on leave, so I wasn't really spending much time with my computer. Since then, I've been working 50 hours a week, and haven't had much free time still. I see from your site that it is your daughter that is in the Navy. My son has been in for 3 and a half years. I just found out about Navy for Moms while on his ship in August from another mom. I hope to be here alot in the future. But, for today, I have to make this short.
Talk to you soon, Linda
