Merry Christmas Kathy!
I hope everything is going well for you.
Galen just got orders to report to Newport, Rhode Island. He and his wife will be leaving Norfolk sometime in late Feb. or early March. He's very excited so I'm happy too.
Take care,
Betty
Hi Kathy,
Hope everything is going well with Danielle. Galen's best friend has been told that he will be joining the Fleet Band in Japan as soon as he graduates from A school.
Galen will be remaining in Norfolk with the Fleet Forces bands. He is very happy because he and his wife love the area.
The "group" is just now going through testing and auditions to see how long each of them will be in A school.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi! I make sure to post all the pics he takes of his shipmates on our Sasebo and Mineman group pages hoping another mom can enjoy seeing their son/daughter. I know two other moms from his ship the Patriot so that is cool; we share details of calls, etc to track the kids. How crazy is that?!
I hopw you are well and I wish you and your family a very blessed Thanksgiving.

It has been a fast and furious year! Miss Ricky but I will tell you, I am now starting to enjoy an empty house....although, really do miss him but not the teen angst. :-)
Maybe down the road I can plan on a Hawaii vacation with Ricky. Geeze, even Hong Kong is less expensive than Japan!
OOoh, sounds so awesome to have Christmas plans with Danielle coming home. I can't even imagine when I will get a visit and my visiting Japan doesn't appear possible. My goodness, it is so expensive!
Will send any more shots I find of Danielle. Ricky had a few more publishd recently online by the Navy and they are wonderful!
Kathy: Found this awesome pic of Danielle....
Hope all is good with you and your family. Ricky just celebrated his 20th birthday with his first visit to Tokyo and Yokosuka!
He is very happy and well and taking pictures every which way!

Hi there. It was so great as you know. They were allowed to participate in graduation, Thank God! There were 21 kids that did not pass battlestations so when Ashley called me she said they were told they might not be able to participate because there were so few that did. Most passed the second time. There division was not good at all. They did not get along from the beginning and never learned too. Ashley was so disgusted with them but she is almost 22. We had a beautiful 2 days with her though it was heart wrenching saying goodbye knowing she would be leaving so soon for so far away. She is going to where your daughter is just before Christmas :( to the USS George Wshington. She will be able to spend 10-14 days with us the beginning of December but will not be with us for Thanksgiving, Christmas or her birthday 12/30. She has tons of questions about Japan like what kind of cell phone should she get, what kind of laptop, web cam, etc. I told her I would find out all I could from you since you have been such a great source to me from the beginning. I shared the pictures you have of your daughter in Japan in our hotel room so she could see what life in Japan looked like. Also, get this the guy I told you about came, couldnt get in because he didnt have ID (loser) (yeah for us) but she did see him today and just called me and said she told him it just isnt there for her that she has changed and has a whole new life ahead of her that he doesnt fit into, YEAH!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for everything. GiGi
if I give her a camera, watch, or portfolio will they let her keep it with her until she leaves for Florida? She will go through BS on Tuesday so I will be waiting for that call on Wednesday. I have a hair apt on Weds at 3:45 so hopefully the call wont come then. I will be sure to keep you updated on her.
I cannot believe it. I just spent about 20 minutes typing to you and then I lost it. I will try to remember and be brief with what I said. First of all thank you. thank you from the bottom of my heart for reaching out to a stranger and helping her through and stressful, emotional time. You were very helpful to me and I hope I can do the same for someone else someday going through this. Well, we have 5 more days and then this chapter of Navy life will be over, yeah! This has had too many downs for my daughter and I hope the next part in Florida does not. I do not like girls setting up girls, I do not like the mental and emotional stress she has gone through at all. I hope this will make her a better person instead of a bitter person. I do have a couple final questions regarding bootcamp graduation. Is there anything we can give her as a gift on that day? Someone suggested a watch. And, is there anything you would recommend to do while we are together? We will be leaving Wednesday evening, arriving at the Red Carpet early evening Thursday then leaving to return again on Saturday evening. Thank you again and I hope your daughter is well.

I see my daughter in law had contact with you, she is tiger102774, I read your comments to her and was especially interested in the one about her auditioning. My granddaughter says her recruiter will be taking her to audition soon either in DC or Anapolis. She is so excited, but says if she doesnt pass the audition she will still join the navy she is determined. BUT,you mentioned 900 what does that mean? I would info on basic, A school etc. I am nervous but verrrrry proud of her
I didn't realize there is a graduation at the school of music. I hope we can attend. I still haven't quite come down to earth. What an emotional ceremony!!!! I can't wait to get the DVD and photos.
Elizabeth is driving to Little Creek either Wednesday or Thursday of this week. She has already been there and all of their belongings are moved in, compliments of her dad, brother and my older son Aaron. She and her BF stayed for several days and settled the place prior to Galen's PIR.
She is leaving GL tomorrow AM to drive back to Norvelt, south of Pittsburgh. She and her best friend will drive to Little Creek with the two cats and any other odds and ends. Oh, to be that young and energetic!
Hi Kathy,
We returned today at around 4. Wow! We were blown away by the PIR!
Seeing Galen as RPOC and also soloist with the band was amazing! He also received a commanding officers commemerative coin. He looks great and of course he is enjoying the weekend with his wife.
There are 5 music people flying to Norfolk on Tuesday morning.
I can't thank you enough for answering my questions.
Hi there. Today I received/We received three letters and then a phone call. Unbelievable! She sounded so much better. In the letter she said they might not graduate on time but on the phone didnt mention it so I didnt even ask. She is done will hell week, next weeek is fire fighting, followed by her final physical test and another final test then battle stations on the 27-28 and then graduation on the 30th. Two more weeks, not sure if I will makeit or not. Hearing her voice made me miss her so much more. She was talking about having a break down talking to the higher ups about Japan and they were telling her all she would see and do and since she was 22 almost it was time to grow up, the big meanies! I was just glad she sounded so much better than her last letters and call. I guess we are on the final stretch. Thanks for all your coaching and support.
GiGi
Thanks Kathy,
It's a little after 9 AM here and I am sitting waiting to here how things went during Battle Stations. I'll be so glad when this is finally over!
I dont know what my problem is at the moment, feeling a little down in the dumps. Received a call from a friend of hers saying this guy we dont like and refused to meet before hand is planning on coming to graduation. We dont want him there, why would he do that? He doesnt know us at all and really doesnt know her. This should be quality family time, we have been through enough. Her last letter was talking about hell week which I think is still going on so hopefully everything goes well with that. I certainly am not looking forward to the drive, she doesnt know what is happening afterwards and the navyformom's website has disappointmed me. I guess I am not in the click, whats new with my life I guess. I wish you were going through this just now instead of being a veteran. I'm sorry, I guess you caught me on a bad day. Thank you for thinking of me and I hope all is well with your daughter and yourself. Take care.
Hi Kathy,
I spoke with Elizabeth and she has found an apartment for them. She is awaiting Galen's power of attorney to close the deal.
I am certain Galen will be tired when we meet him but I know that he will be ecstatic to see us, especailly to see Elizabeth. They will be fine with whatever happens after he gets to the school of music. Last year they spent 12 weeks apart while Galen did his music student teaching to become a certified music educator. Now he has it all: performance degrees, music ed. certification and a job playing in a navy fleet band.
I simply am looking forward to his PIR and a chance for life to settle down a bit. This last few days is really making me a crazy person.
You have been such a help and a wealth of information for me.
