I can't remember how long it took our sailor to get his sticker--that's been too long ago for me to recall if he got frustrated over anything. I think he had to wait since he got new USAA insurance.

My son was fortunate to have made a friend at Goose Creek who lived off base and allowed him to park his car until he got his sticker. So, he only had to get a ride to his car (funny when you think about it.)

Hi MaryBeth! That was not only funny, but stupid. I should have cabbed it when I saw the #s up in the 1300's! LOL! It was great to meet you, too, and enjoy James while you can. The 26th will come too quicly.

Hi, MaryBeth! I was laughing about how your James described the tests. It was probably the same vernacular that my James used! HAHAH! Yes, my son knows your James! LOL! I wish we could see the boys before hand, but my son said he's going to be working until then. I just spent a short night with him, then like a jerk, walked all the way back to the hotel! I thought it was a short walk - boy am I a dope. Well, that won't happen again. Since the graduation isn't until 2, I'm going to get my nails done, then cab it down there early. I checked with the guards at the gate and found out that you need a pass to park your car by the hall. If you need to know which gate, let me know and I can explain it. If you happen to have room in your car and are passing by the Quality Inn on the corner of 52 and Red Bank Rd, would it be possible for me to catch a ride with you in? If not, I really hope to meet up with you tomorrow! my cell is 732-322-7979 Congrats on your new Petty Officer, Mom! LOL! Dawnrose

Hi, Marybeth. My son, James Nichols, is in class 919 as well. I will have to ask him if he knows your James. He called me today to also say how he passed his comps and proceded to tell me, in language I care not to repeat, how difficult it was. I would LOVE to meet up with you at the graduation. I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn (James booked it for me so I hope it's close - LOL!) for Thursday flying home to NYC Friday (Like you!) Congrats to you, momma, on raising a wonderful young man! Hope to see you then. Dawnrose

Hello Marybeth, I just got back from GC lsat night at midnight. All of the motel are close to base, and the town is very small, mainly people/businesses are there to support the base. There is plenty of security and I felt completely safe walking anywhere. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi Marybeth - actually my husband was in the AirForce during the Viet Nam War. I don't know what prompted all the grandchildren to go into the Navy. Owen, the grandson that is at Nease will be a junior this year, and is gravitating toward Annapolis. Fortunately he has the grades and hopefully will be in a leadership position in NJROTC program there this year. He attended leadership academy this summer in GA and graduated, so we have our fingers crossed. The two that are enlisted - Kevin liked the uniform and the opportunities the recruiter laid out. I think Meagan (his sister who is in basic now) was influenced by Kevin toward the Navy.

Thanks for the welcome Marybeth. Our grandson graduated from Mandarin HS last year. His PIR was March 13 of this year and we so enjoyed being at his graduation in GL. His A School was at GL, and he has received orders for NAS JAX. Are you believing that?! Our granddaughter graduated from Mandarin HS last year, too, and is in the GL at basic now. Her PIR is July 31 and her aunt and I will be going up by car for her graduation. Her parents live in Jax and will be flying up. We have 2 grandchildren at Nease HS (both in NJROTC).

Marybeth, I did find out on Myspace, someone commented and congratulated him, so I asked him and he said no, He had deleted the comment of course, but luckily I copy and pasted it, so then he came clean after i emailed it to him. The plan is to get married at the courthouse in California, but I am trying my best to discourage that and go ahead and wait until October and have a ceremony here.

I betchya James is the one who is teaching TJ how to play!! He never knew before, but has a cousin in law who is a professional - Art of the Flesh is his band - and TJ has loved him since he met him (it's an extended step family kind of thing) and he wanted to be like Scotty (Tomaselli - the nephew. With the band. Who actually has a CD out! Yep I'm proud!)

TJ told me that the guy who was teaching him how to play said he needed to practice more- I play guitar too (but I'm all about acoustinc folk songs - I'm 43 - and since I can't do respectable AC/DC or Aerosmith I'll stick to Dylan and Joplin) so I reminded TJ that it "aint easy!" It's a gift! Thanks so much to your son if he's the one teaching mine - it takes a LOT of patience!! Heck - if he is the one, I'm sending HIM cookies too! And I have to say, your son is an unbelievable shipmate - that's giving and taking care of each other. You've raised a WONDERFUL boy! And I'm thankful that my son gets to know him. You rock, Navy Mom! Well done! :)

It was TJ's Birthday on Monday (the 25th) and I'm going to be sending cookies, brownies, and a picture album (he's really homesick - first birthday he's ever been away from family) - maybe they'll share. Aw, forget that - TJ WILL share! :)

I can't check in all that often - but I hope to talk to you soon! You know, I've been thinking that it isn't only our sailors that look forward to mail, but us moms do too - if you feel llike exchanging letters, I'd love to as well! It is NICE to get something in the mailbox besides bills and advertisements!

Hope to hear from you soon - and if you do want to write, let me know - I feel like buying some nice stationary! Yeah, I'm a girly girl at times. ;-)

Thanks so much to your son - he's not only helping my son, but in a way, I feel like he's helping me too!

Tell me what kind of cookies he likes - I'll make a batch just for him too!

He rocks - and so do you!

Talk to you soon I hope,
Amy

Hi Marybeth! Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier - I'm sure they DO know each other! If your son is curious, mine is the one with the guitar and the PS3 - hopefully they like each other too! :)

Hello Marybeth,
Obadiah is in the 153 Division. He is a musician and singer who has written songs, plays guitar, piano, a little violin, and mandolin - but is not completely comfortable with sight music. We encouraged him to make that one of his studies while he's in the navy, because it would benefit him greatly. He taught himself to play the instruments he plays, and has performed at many venues in our surrounding areas. His ultimate goal is to be a recording engineer.
We received a phone call from him yesterday. We were so happy to hear that he is doing well and he's keeping a positive attitude.
John and I can't wait to see him! Just under 3 weeks until his PIR day.
Please keep in touch, Marybeth. I'm happy to get to know you, and very glad to be a part of the Jax moms group.

Hey Marybeth!
Thanks so much for your post! I appreciate all the help and suggestions you gave. I think I am going to stay at the Navy Lodge. I haven't made my reservations, though, because I want to make sure he'll graduate on the 10th. I'll wait for the next phone call.
You must be so proud of your son! My two sons live in St. Augustine, too! While your James is there, maybe he could take up surfing! My boys love to surf. It's one of their passions in life. St. Augustine is about an hour from us. Our 2 daughters live nearby, too. We all miss Obadiah, but we are really proud of him. He has chosen this on his own. He's a musician, and I miss hearing him play around the house. I can't wait to see him for his PIR day!
I'm not sure about meeting for lunch on the 28th yet, but if I don't get to go this time, I'll catch you ladies the next meet.
Looking forward to meeting you, Marybeth!

Connie

Thank you, Marybeth. As the kids say...my phone is "blowing up," all for a good reason. I will keep you posted. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness.

Marybeth,

Thank you so much. But please take it off the JAX Moms page. I sent a PM to every Mom in the group. I have started hearing from Moms in the area and I am flying down there tomorrow.

Marybeth,
Once they complete A school then then have power school then prototype school. Since Sal is a MM, his A school graduation in May 1 but he is not sure when power school will start.... it could be within two weeks of the graduation or several months..... He is planning on getting married as soon as he graduates A school. That way Kimberlie can live with him on base during power school. I didn't realize you only live a couple hours away from us. Hope James is doing well in school. Is he an EM or MM ?
