Oops, I sent it too soon!, Andrew is doing fine, likes his job a lot, seems to be doing well at it. I don;t know if it's something he wants to do long term, but it's a great opportunity right now. So you have already started skiing? We hardly have any snow on the ground at all, which is just fine with me! I bundled all up Monday morning to 5:30 to go walking, and almost fell on my butt....it was all black ice. I really don't like winter, it is pretty though. Well you have a great day, I'll let you know the scoop from Adam after he gets home! Take Care, Kathy
Hi Lynn, I have met some of the other moms, actually one of them just emailed me, heard they may be back some time tomorrow. Adam called me monday night, I was surprised to see his name on the caller id. They had pulled into VA, he sounded well, a little tired but pretty excited. I guess there were some things he got to do, which he didn't think he would so soon...whatever those might be!! I'm pretty sure he will be home for Christmas, I think he said the will be on stand down (?) over the holiday. I want to ask him if he wants to bring anyone home for dinner. I know I would appreciate it if someone did that for my son. Reminds me, I saw the movie Blind Side last night, it was great, and it's a true story! I don;t know if I could let someone move in with me though, but they are an awesome family.
Well most of my shopping is done, I've been leaving work a little early to get it done. We have our brunch this sunday for our friends, and christmas dinner for family. I don't seem to stressed, which is unusual! A friend of mine bought me this little poket book, how to simplify your Christmas, it is excellent, and I am trying some of the ideas out! I only sent cards to family we won;'t see, rather than the usual 100 or so cards I send. Just that alone lifted a big burden (and expense). I put up a tree and some decorations, but passed on the whole village I usually set up, and alot of the other things...still looks pretty! I am happy to hear that Peter's girlfriend is spending Christmas with him, it must make you feel better about him not being able to be home. Does your mom come out?
Hi Lynn, Sorry I haven't even checked my e-mails for some time. We put our house on the market; have been right out straight keeping it "perfect" (?).Then it's been Christmas shopping, mailing packages and the worst for me is all of the wrapping. We are also in the process of building a new house (a cape) in Dover Point! We were there yesterday. It is so exciting to see the .After my fall, we decided this house was really too big and too high maintenance inside and out. The new house is in a 55+ community so all of the outside stuff will be done for us. We will have more time together. We will have 3 bedrooms and the formal dining room and family room that we wanted. Most places don't have all that we wanted and I didn't want to go too smaller as I would feel like I was living in a box! The house won't be done until April but we are actually packing stuff we don't need for now; getting rid of all of the stuff we really don't need or won't be usung in the new house. Amazing how many "extras" we have we no longer use! Sounds like you are doing the healthy things in life. I hope to start walking dailing as we will have a nice walking trail. That is about the only exercise I am allowed to do due to my physical challenges. We will also be glad to get out of Portsmouth as it has changed so much. Dover Point is very nice and we will be in an area that is not so busy. The land is amidst apple trees and protected from other roads and traffic! Now we wait and hope that this house will sell on the right time table. Houses on this street seem to be sell despite the economy and the real estate market! Will keep in touch. I need to get going on more wrapping! I just want to get it off my list of "have to dos"! We haven't even thought about decorating for Christmas but need to something. We'll keep it very simple. Do you decorate alot? I picture your house as nicely decorated since you love gardening . If, I don't get back to you before Christmas, have a wondeful holiday! Diane
Good Morning Lynn, yes Adam reported yesterday, I haven't talked to him yet, but his boat actually came back a few days ago, said he thinks they might be leaving soon, and back before Christmas, but who knows!! He didn't know yet if he would be able to come home for Thanksgiving, I will have to wait & see. He does seem real anxious to get started, he does have a friend who is on the same boat, so they stay in touch.
We will be having about 15 for dinner, not too bad. I'm not very good at delegating jobs to the kids, but like Ed said they are all 25-30 yrs old, they can certainly bring something! His sister is coming also and she is bringing the soup & sweet potatoes, and his cousin is bringing an apple pie, so that does lighten my load. Two of Eddie's daughters just moved into a new apartment together and they are having some type of homegoods party tonight, I thought what are they thinking, having this 2 days before the holiday, obviously they don't have to cook, so they are not thinking!!! Eddie does help out a lot though, he enjoys cooking, so I'm sure we'll get it all done in time.
So Pete's attempting to make jeans...that's a tough one, I was pleased to see Adam can sew his own buttons on!!! You must be so anxious to meet his girlfriend!!! She will get to meet everyone all at once. Your mom is coming in today, you must be so excited...I still miss my mom so much, and she's been gone for 20yrs now, she was only 54 when she got sick, only 2 yrs older than I am now! At the time I thought she was old!!! Well enjoy your time with all your family...I look forward to hearing all about it! Have a Happy Thanksgiving....Kathy
Hi Lynn, staying warm? Acutally it has been nice but I think they're saying tonight will be the coldest so far! You sound like a much more avid hiker than me, I like the easy trails...I do like being outdoors though. I have been bundling up at 5:30 in the morning and getting out to walk 3 -4 miles each day. I had joined weight watchers, and took off 15 lbs, I feel much better. It's amazing how thous pounds just creep up over the years!
Well Adam graduated last friday, his dad went even though Adam kept telling us not to bother, it was no big deal. I guess it was a pretty simple cerermony, but we just felt one of us should be there, especially seeing we're only an hour away. He is now on vacation until 11/23. He went to NYC for a few days, his best friend is a fireman there and he had some time off also. Sounds like they had a lot of fun (Halloween party!) He said when he got back to his apt. on tuesday night, he slept for 14 hrs! He is going to be coming home this weekend, so maybe I will find out a little more about what will be happening for him,
So Pete can sew....you've taught him well Lynn, he's going to make a good husband someday. How thoughtful of him, making her some flannel pants. I happy you will get to meet her soon, it's funny how a mom can tell if she just seems right for him! As much as I love Michelle, there's always been something in my gut that they weren't right for each other. Actually i think she'd be more Andrew's type. Adam just doesn't fuss over things (what to wear, eat or where to go), and she's the total opposite! Oh well we can't pick them for them can we.
So sad about that shooting at Fort Hood in TX. isn't it. There are so many scary things happening, I feel so bad for all those families. My heart just feels so heavy everyday after watching the news, I saw the parents of those 3 college girls that drowned, they were on the today show, I just keep thinking, how do you get up everyday after facing those kind of sorrows? A young boy we knew from town was just killed in a car accident on Monday, 19 yrs old, they didn't find speeding or texting as a cause! We actually saw the accident right after it happened when we were coming home from MD this past monday. There were tv crews and tons of state police cars, Ed had said someone must have died, with all the commotion around. We didn;t find out till the next day who it was.
We had gone to a wedding in MD, we drove down with my dad & stepmom, and stayed at my sisters house. We left 6 sat morning, and came home monday late afternoon. It was great to see my sister & her family, and the wedding was beautiful. A jewish wedding, which was the first one I had gone to. It was pretty elaborate, but I say like you, I prefer simple and unpretentious. I did get to see all my sisters kids, and their kids, which was great. Well I think we are done with our little trips for a while. I am looking forward to staying home. We are having all the kids for Thanksgiving (there's 6 of them, 1 son in law, 1 fiancee, and 2 grandchildren, and any other dates that come along, so we have a pretty full house just with our own! I think Ed's sister, husband & a cousin are also coming. I will have Christmas with my family this year. I can't believe the holiday's are around the corner. I promised myself I would simplify them this year, not so much fuss, spending less money, skipping cards....we'll see if I can stick to it.
I hope all is well with both of you, stay healthy! Take care, Kathy
HI Lynn, yes we were in NH the 16-19, but we didn't see snow!! Actually it was really nice & sunny on sat. a little cloudy on sunday. We climbed Mt Ascutney (only the last mile from the autoroad) and there was a little snow on the ground from a few days before we got there. We really thought the weekend would get rained out, but we ended up having some beautiful weather! Eddie wanted to hike Mt. Kearsage (again from the auto road) but I got part way up & wanted to turn around, it was really rough & steep, and I swear I saw a bear print! It's not so bad on weekends, but we did it on a mon. and there wasn't anyone around... not for me! We stayed in Claremont again, that new common man inn is really nice, then we stayed one night in the one in Plymouth. it was a nice get away.
Well Adam finishes up this week, I think he'll have some vacation time while waiting for the boat to come back. He thinks he may be able to leave just before thanksgiving! Who knows? I know he is really anxious to be on the boat, and now start the process of getting qualified. I think him & Michelle are pretty much over now, they hardly ever see each other and yet he's so close. She did tell me she really feels he is going to want to stay in, so I guess why prolong the inevitable? Someday I'm sure he'll meet the right one, he has so much on his plate right now, it's probably best to just focus on what he needs to do. Andrew went to Groton for the weekend, Adam cooked lobsters for them!
Well before you know it, it will be thanksgiving and you will have everyone home, and get to meet Pete's new girlfriend! You must be excited! Has he ever been serious before this? She must be pretty special for him to have fallen so fast. How's your daughter doing? Her job going well? So you guys are all ready for winter, skis all waxed? This is my favorite time of year, warm days, cool nights & it's just so pretty! I don't mind the winter until about feb & march...I think it's so depressing! Everything is gray and gloomy! Oh well, not much I can do about it, maybe someday we'll do as our parents do and spend a few winter months in FL ( I can dream anyway!) Actually we did just buy tickets to go there at the end of March, we usually spend a few days on the west coast w/ ed' s mom, then rent a car & drive to the east coast to see my day & stepmom. Something to look forward to.
I hope all is well with both of you, remember if your ever in our neck of the wood we'd love to have you for dinner. I know you're probably saying, why would we want to go to RI???? Take Care, kathy
Hi Lynn, I enjoyed our lunch together. Sorry I haven't contacted you in so long. I have been so busy getting all the things needed to be done here in the fall. Plus, I have been sick with a bad cold that I haven't been able to shake! I even now have it still! I haven't been checking my e-mail so didn't even get your message until today. We are thinking about moving. This house is so big for the 2 of us and so high maintenance! We have had an appraisal done on the house which we haven't gotten the figures yet. Matthew is most likely going to accept a position in Georgia and has been very concerned about us trying to do all the work around here (he always helped)! And, with Will in TX, we will be alone as family goes. I am going to hate having my sons and their families far away. I at least have had one close to be able to do things together. I am dreading the day when Matthew moves! It is bittersweet since we are happy for him to have a wonderful job that is secure but the distance will be a very sad time for us( and probably the same way for them as well). We are probably going to buy a custom home (cape) in a 55+ community in Dover Point. It has 3 bedrooms, formal dining rm. big bonus room over the garage, office off the living room(better access to the computer), first floor laundry, nice lot. Irrigation front and back plus we can choose flowers, scrubs, trees and all the outside is maintaned under the condo fee. Unlike you, I don't have a green thumb so I can choose but not kill the flowers. It is a little closer to Bill's work. Oh, the lots abuts large apple trees and no building can be done behind the houses. Walking trails etc in the development. Maybe I can get healthy and lose weight by walking!! (Ha ,Ha, since I really need to cut out junk food out of my diet)! So that's what's up here. Hope all is going great with you. I know that you, as all Mom's, worry about their kids, and hearing that he fell and cut his head, doesn't make it any easier! How do you like Pete's new girlfriend? Is it looking serious or is it too soon to tell? Will talk to you again soon.
Diane
Hi Lynn, I did go to CT on Saturday with Adam & Andrew. It was a great day, we went on the base, got a little tour of what we could see, great NEX, then to the apartment, which is in New London..maybe5 -8 minute ride from the base. It's nice, he has a one bedroom (no roommate) but the rooms are pretty big and lots of big closets! I was wondering where he would put all the stuff he brought from home (mtn. bike, excercise bike, tool boxes etc) but everything is put away in a closet! I was surprised when I got there, all his pictures were hung, everything unpacked, there wasn't anything for me to do, so we went to dinner instead!
His boat is out now, maybe for a month or so, he's waiting to see what will happen with him, he finishes 10/30....if he has to wait till it comes back he might try to take some vacation time before he looses it anyway.
So Pete's bringing his new girlfriend home??? You must be so anxious to meet her. That's great that you will see him, your mom & your daughter are coming also aren't they? What a nice holiday, I agree with you Thanksgiving is the best, I used to love Christmas the most but it's just so commercialized now.
You must have some frost on your pumpkins now, Andrew had to scrape his car windows this morning! We are suppose to go up there this weekend, waiting to see about the rain they're predicting, although things change so fast in New England. Eddie and I both had a birthday this past week, so we were taking a long weekend just to ourselves! I turned 52 and he just turned 55 yesterday! Wow time really does fly doesn't it!
Talk to you soon, Kathy
Good Morning! We were in NH last weekend (Weare) sat. was lousy as I'm sure you know, but we made the best of it, went for a ride on sunday, to laconia, Meredith, so we had fun. We will be going back up on the 16-19, just the two of us this time, hopefully we'll have some nice cool crisp fall weather. I was surprised by how much the leaves have already turned up there, nothing here yet.
So Pete is into yoga, and the instructor!!! Wow, she already flew out to WA, Very Interesting!!! I bet you can't wait to meet her, when will he know if he can come home for thanksgiving?
Adam is all moved into his apt., his dad helped him move the things he still had at my house last weekend. I am supposed to go to Ct. this sunday. I am anxious to see it, & thought maybe I could help him out a little. Last time I had gotten him curtains, and when I went to NY he had them all hung in the wrong rooms, (colors didn't match!) I think Andrew's going to come with me, he'll probablly visit adam often, as long as adam's still there. He told Andrew he bought a 5' flat screen tv and a play station 3...Oh boy, Andrew's in!!
I guess from the little I know there will be some action for Adam soon. I think he finishes sobic the end of October, not quite sure the date. I know the repairs are done on the boat. Someone told me they kind of have a secret code with their son as far as his coming & going....He'll mention someone's birthday as far a leaving...and mentions missing her meatballs means he's on his way back! I'll have to try to think of a plan!
Well I'd better get back to work. It had been SO slow, but seems to be picking up a little. Hope all is well with you & Boyd...getting ready for the snow again!!! You can keep it all up there. Talk to you soon, Kathy
Thanks for your comments, Lynn. I will definitely look up your friends. Oh you are so right - for guys my son's age, they are DEFINITELY safer at sea rather than on their own:-) Will be in touch. Thanks again.
Hi Lynn,
So sorry to hear about Pete's fall and cut on his head. I hope he is healing quickly.
School has been busy but good this year. Last year was an extremely tough year so just about anything would seem easier.
We're going to start running the dogs this weekend. Yes we use an ATV for fall training. The dogs are certainly ready. We recently added dog #10 to the pack. She's a sweetheart and will hopefully do well on our team.
Sean met his current girlfriend last Oct. His closest friend from childhood is doing his medical residency in CT. Sean went to visit him after deployment and met this girl then. She lives in the same building as Sean's friend. She went to visit Sean in CA in Aug. We haven't met her yet.
Sounds like you are going to have a full house for Thanksgiving. What fun. I have no idea yet who may make it home. Bec keeps delaying moving back. My guess is she isn't coming but who knows. Right now she says she's coming in Dec.
Looks like it's going to be a beautiful fall this year. The colors up here are so vibrant. We're not at peak yet. I can't wait until we are.
Hope everything else is going well. Take care. Donna
Hi Lynn, wow the chilly weather is here! The weather doesn't sound too promising for this weekend, not sure if we will still go north if it rains the whole time. We have a weekend booked the 17 &18 also, not sure if that will be past peak foliage though.
I think Adam had his furniture delivered yesterday. He was not staying at the apt. because his things were still in storage in NY. I am supposed to go next weekend (the holiday weekend) to see it, I'm looking forward to that. I am so grateful it's only a little over an hours ride. I think he said his boat is done with repairs, so he may get to see some action soon!! He loves CT, and of course it's all about subs. He said the other day he heard the tugs horn and looked out to see a sub shipping out! Imagine the adventure they are on!
Well not much new with us. So far Andrew seems to like his new job. He meets adam once a week after work & they go fishing! He's getting hooked now too. So Pete had to have stiches!!! I know what you mean worrying more when they're on land, he sounds the adventurous type also. Hope he's ok.
Enjoy your weekend, hope it's not going to be a total washout, but it does look that way. talk to you soon, Kathy

Hi Lynn,
I still am unable to access your message posted on Saturday. I am not sure if it is OK to give out my e-mail address. That would take care of the problem. I am going to try that. Here goes...angel_di@comcast.net
Lynn - thanks for the reply. My son just got to Bangor in late August. He seems to like the area, too. I'll send you a friend request and ask the million or so questions I have :-)
Hi Lynn - do you still have a son on the Louisiana? My son has been temporarily assigned to the LA so that he can work on his quals. (His boat will be in dry dock for a few more months) Looks like he will be leaving soon for his first patrol. Any info you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Suzanne (who also happens to live in Louisiana:-)

Hi Lynn,
Something has happened to my log in that has ended up in my not being able to read your comment. I have no idea what's up with this.
I am looking forward to hearing from you esp. in setting up a time to get together! I hope all is well with you and your big project at the house.
I will try to figure out what the problem is with me signing in etc. Leave me another message and will see what happens!
Good morning Lynn, Adam just got the keys to his apt. on Monday, now is waiting for the moving co. to move his furniture, I haven't talked to him so not sure when they scheduled that. He still has a lot of stuff at our house, which I guess his dad will probablly bring to him, we have several customers in CT so Jim is in the area a lot. I think it was the apt. mgmt. that had to approve, probablly credit checks & I know they asked about his last couple of rentals, I'm sure they check it all out. It looks decent, I looked it up on line. Not sure what's up with Michelle these days, it seems like they are just staying friends, they go out to dinner or breakfast occasionally when he is home! Who knows....I think that's a good thing though, he has a lot to concentrate on. He's hoping his boat might be done repairs and ready to go out testing right around when he's finished sobic.
So how do you like this nice cool weather? I love it, they say the foliage will be beautiful this year..we're going to nh the first weekend in oct and again on the third weekend, so I am looking forward to some pretty colors in those mountains of yours! We have a wedding this weekend, our very good friend's son is getting married. We also have one in MD on Halloween, we will stay with my sister (her & her husband are going also) so that should be a good time! I always wanted a fall wedding...and guess what, both times I got married in hot humid august..go figure!!!
Our party last sunday went well...so much work though. I think I spent 3 days cooking and baking. We were lucky to have a great day, usually anytime we have a party it rains!
Have you talked to Pete since he went back? How far in advance do they know when they're going out again? Any chance he'll be home for any of the holidays? I guess there's a good chance Adam could be gone this Christmas! Well have a great day, and don't work too hard. Things are quiet at work again, hope it's not an indication of the winter months ahead!!! Take care, Kathy
Hi Lynn, Once again I apologize for not writing. When I returned from Alaska it was time to get right back to work. This year has been extremely busy so far. When I get home in evenings, I've had so much to do- take care of the dogs, work on a quilt for Bec and many other things.
School is starting to slow down and get into a nice rhythm.
Sounds like Pete had a good visit at home. I hope you got to spend a lot of time with him. We heard today that Sean will be home for Xmas. That will be nice- although he has a girlfriend in Conn. so we probably won't see too much of him.
Hope things are going well for you. Are you ready for winter? I wonder with the cool summer if winter will be early this year. My dogs are sure ready for snow :)
Take care.
donna
Hi Lynn, I can't believe we are already talking about the next season, we barely had a summer. Our garden is winding down also, still a lot of tomatoes, I think we will be making sauce soon, we still have some in the freezer from last summers crop. It does feel nice to feel some cool crisp air though, I think fall is the best time of year, in New England anyway. So your daughter enjoyed her survival trip...it must feel good for her to get out of the city once in a while. Pete's doing yoga, that is so good for him. Adam was in great shape, but after spending a year in NY I found him to be real thin, not a lot of muscle tone anymore! He was always bigger than Andrew, now its the opposite.
Andrew started his new job yesterday. He seems to think he will like it, nows the time to experiment I guess, living at home, no major bills. Adam was home for 4 days this past weekend. Went tuna fishing sat. and lost a thousand dollars worth of rod & reel, had it in the rod holder, a tuna took the bait and the rod flew out...said he thought he was going to cry!!! They hooked a 10ft shark after (on his uncles pole) so that excitement took away some of his despair.
Not much new with us, ed's mom will probablly be moving in for a few weeks before she goes back to fla., I do enjoy her company, but it is hard to have someone staying with you for any length of time. We're having a party at our house for the whole family this weekend, kind of on last hurrah, the following weekend we have a wedding to go to. That's about it for now, I am waiting for adam to get his apt. then I'll take a ride down to groton. He is waiting approval on one he found close to the base. I can't believe how blessed I feel to have seen so much of him, and know he's so close by. He seems very excited about his future. Well take care, and don't work too hard. Talk to you soon, kathy ( It felt great this past labor day weekend to not have to move anyone into college...it's been 8 years straight!!)

Hi Lynn,
Oh how I can remember big house projects! I, like you, try to stay around when work is being done!
Glad the wedding was enjoyable. I understand how some classmates drift apart as they go in different directions and different experiences. I experienced that a whole lot of years ago!!
Will is still in the Naval Reserves. He can't be deployed for at least 45 months. I have no idea if he will stay as a career reservist. I don't think I dare even ask! He is back teaching at Texas State University in San Marcos as well as completing a book deal that he started prior to his deployment. His publisher granted him an extra year to finish. The Lord only knows what the heck he is writing about this time. He told us but I had no idea so it ended up in my "not to remember" part of my brain. Ha,Ha! We talked with him this past week-end and it sounds as if he is doing better with the transition.
Yes, I know The Loaf and Ladle in Exeter very well! They have very delicious food. Meeting there once you are free would be great. I very much want to meet you. We can share photos if that is OK with you. I'd love to see pictures of your family and show you some of my family photos. Let me know when we can meet. I am not working so can be very flexible!
The best to you and yours!
Diane

Diane
Take care. Donna
I still am unable to access your message posted on Saturday. I am not sure if it is OK to give out my e-mail address. That would take care of the problem. I am going to try that. Here goes...angel_di@comcast.net
Suzanne (who also happens to live in Louisiana:-)
Something has happened to my log in that has ended up in my not being able to read your comment. I have no idea what's up with this.
I am looking forward to hearing from you esp. in setting up a time to get together! I hope all is well with you and your big project at the house.
I will try to figure out what the problem is with me signing in etc. Leave me another message and will see what happens!

Take care.

Diane
