Thanks for the quick reply! I have been cruising around the site reading posts....including the Mothers of A School. I have also been reading about Groton, CT and Kings Bay, GA and about the duties of a MT. PIR would have been better if it hadn't been such a quick visit with Eric. His girlfriend was there also seeing her brother graduate. He was NOT grad and go. HE doesn't report until tomorrow so his folks will be home today. (they are our next door neighbors) Keep in touch!
Sherri
Sherri--Be sure and join the Mothers of A School --I put out a questions about the holidays. It sounds like only a couple of days at Thanksgiving, but that the chaplains are more than happy to help your sailor find a family for the day.
For Christmas, Goose Creek is on "stand down" from Dec. 22-Jan 2nd. I think we will fly our son home--however, those do count against his vacation days unless he can help in the recruiters office for some of that time. Check with your recruiter if you have any questions.
CONGRATS! Was PIR not the most amazing feeling? As soon as your sailor gets his phone and computer, you should hear from him quite often. We usually hear from ours on Sat. or Sun. afternoon. Sometimes in the middle of the week.
Hi Sherri
Welcome to the "New Norm" as a Navy mom. It is an adventure not to be missed.
All my best to Eric (that was my oldest brother's name--well loved) and to your family.
Hey Sherri, just checking in to see how you are doing. We are down to two weeks...yeah! I am so excited. Chris called last week and sounded great. He talked a lot more then the first call. he still got a little choked up though. His letters have been much better as well, and I am so glad. We may stay an extra day in the Great Lakes. He will be going to school there and we might could give him some of his personal stuff on Monday. We will see. I bought him a laptop for his graduation and I dont want to have to ship it to him.
HOpe your sailor is doing well. Cant wait till next Thursday. Talk with you soon.
Hey Sherri, I am sorry to hear about your MS. I hear that it can be kept at bay with meds, so I hope you are on a good program. I dont think Chris is Grad and Go. His A school is at the Great Lakes for 16 weeks. We are not flying because we are bringing 4 people and that would be rather expensive, plus we wont have a car and I wanted to see a little bit of Illinois.
I hope you are better and can make the trip. We are stying at the Ramada in Waukegan. Its north of the base.
Hey Sherri, My son Chris is in Div 338 ship 10. He will graduate the same weekend as your Eric. We are from Eden NC and will be traveling up on Thursday. 13.5 hours for us. Its going to be a long trip, but well worth it.
I am not sure if we will attend the PIR Potluck. We are staying north of the base at the Ramada.
Dear Sherri,
How are you doing?
Kim was held captive...HAHA!! She's still in Chicago, in A School. She finaly caught on to what she's been training for. She's learning to read the radar. So far, she loves the Navy.
I'm so sorry about Eric being a "grad and Go".
When does he graduate?
Maybe you'll have some time wit him, God willing.
Be preparedd though, after graduation, he should be picking up his graduation pictures, Bring a blank check for that. We didn't know that. Fortunately, my husband had enough to cover it.
You take care and God bless.
Barbara
Dear Sherri,
Hi, my name is Barbara and my daughter Kim graduated last month.
You came to a wonderful web site. The Navy for Moms are all here for one another.
Please feel free to write me, I love letters.
Take care.
Barbara
you can book flights etc no problem you will have to wait to see when he will graduate. I book with Southwest as they generally have better flights and 2 + weeks out if the seats are not full they drop the prices some too. Hotels are never a problem out at GL there are many many of them to chose from.
I have learned that we are now on Navy time not our time, it has been diffifuclt at times but what an amazing journey it has been for me and them!!
