Unless they change dates between now and then I have a date Diane gave me from an email from her son. You can email me if you like and I will let you know what I have. bethmc0@yahoo.com
Hi Wendy. I am probably not the best one to ask about the e-mail situation because my son only e-mails us about once a month. The last time we heard from him was Aug. 28th when he hurriedly let us know that there will be a tiger cruise. We don't complain much about the infrequency of his communications because we know he is quite busy pulling the two different duties and having to workout to stay in shape. I always just hope and pray that he is getting enough sleep to function efficiently. Have you heard anything from the ombudsman lately? Did you get a Gridley newsletter for August? We changed our computer server and e-mail address last month, so I am afraid we are out of the loop. I asked my son to notify the ombudsman with our new e-mail address but I'm not sure he even checks his mail that often. I hope your son does well on his test. Did you check out the Sept. 6th pictures of the ship yet?
Hi Wendy! It is always nice to meet another Gridley mom. My son is STG (sonar), I'm not up to date on all the jobs, what is EN?
I will be in SD when the Gridley comes in, however I most likely will not be at the docks. My son is flying to SD from Hawaii. He is expecting his first baby the day the Gridley arrives in Hawaii! Hope the ship gets to Hawaii early or that the baby is late!
I just got back from SD a few days ago, I flew in to visit my daughter-in-law. Will be a double celebration when I go back, my son's return and my first grandchild! This is my son's frist deployment and feel so blessed that they have email! Much better than boot camp!!!.
hey wendy, thanks for the update, I actually received an email last night from my cousin, hope you and you fam are doing well on this deployment, could I have the ombudsman's email please? could you give me any info you know, im real new to this militay thing, my email is natmichbell@yahoo.com, also do you have any information on the tiger cruise? thanks, god bless, thank your son for protecting our country!!
Hi Wendy,
I probably saw your son at some point during the week on the ship, possibly in the galley at a meal, or at the bingo game or steel deck picnic. If I could get your e-mail somehow, I can send a bunch of pictures to you.
Hi Wendy, No I'm sorry, the careline # only gives info about the Reagan. If your not on the web site for the ship your son is on you should get onto it. If it's anything like the Reagan you will get a lot of info there. Have a good day. Hugs
hi wendy... my son graduated from Lodi high in 1999.. glad to hear your son is good.. my son is getting ready to leave for chicago and then not sure where he will be stationed somewhere east coast we're thinking.. his first 4 years he was stationed on pearl harbor but since he changed his rating and is now in swcc not sure where he will end up... take care talk to you soon..
Did he take his computer with him? does he have an eamil account? Have you looked up the ship and contated the Obudsman or the Chaplin ? they would be a great resource
I am sure that he is busy with inprocess and has not been able to get any ship to shore phone cards yet or an international cell phone to call you.
Please let me know when you hear from him.
My son purchased Sprint Wireless. Sprint appears to be the most popular choice at Great Lakes. I don't think any service will provide coverage on a ship, however. Sprint will suspend the contract if a sailor is deployed to an area not serviced by Sprint, as well as provides a discount off of the monthly rates for all military.
I believe that sailors have access to another service through the Navy if they are stationed on ships.
Hey Wendy haven't heard from you lately?? every thing Ok?? As for me Andy is all settled in Italy. he enjoys it working hard. . How is your son doing??Talk to you soon.God bless you and our sailors.
Wendy:
Sounds like you had a great time at PIR. I'm excited, Kyle is sick with pink eye and the flu.....everyone is sick. I bet the tears fly when I see him in white. I do have a question, I notice in some pics I've seen on here shirts are tucked in and then out, what's the difference? I'm happy you have a Sailor now yeah......way to go. I need to write his daily letter and I'm tired I went to Kansas City, where I'm from to visit my daughter and just got home a few hours ago, so I'm off to bed!! I'm just happy you had a great time with Jeff. Talk to you soon. :-)
Wendy, I am so sorry that I didn't get to meet you at PIR.
I would have liked to. Cody says that Jeff is just down the hall from him. I wish Jeff all the luck and success that is available to him. And keep remembering: Sailor, Sailor... not soldier !!
hahahahaha
Wendy, Just wanted to say hello, it's been forever since we talk last. I hope this finds you well. How is Jeff doing? I hope he is doing good. When does he PIR, never mind I think I see it on 7-03. I guess you're a pro at this. What time did you arrive at PIR, I'm worried if we don't go early then we won't have a decent seat. My son told us where to sit, but he said we won't see him. That makes me sad. Did you find lots of thing to do after PIR? I have no clue Kyle and I both hate theme parks, so that's out. Do they take pictures when? Of the new sailor. I'm full of questions. I hope you were able to attend, since I'm going on and on. Well, pro take care of yourself and talk to you soon.
Hi, Stephen was in DIV 240, Ship 12. We just got back from PIR too. Wasn't it amazing!!! It was funny what you said about your son, because when Stephen was outside the base he felt like a fish out of water too. He was so worried about everything he did. I agree with you too that I am afraid he won't need me any more. I am so proud of him, but on the other hand am really sad that he has grown into such a fine young man. Good luck to your son.

My husband and I just returned from the 7 day Tiger Cruise on the USS Gridley. What a fantastic ship and crew! Welcome.
