AntiM Embassy Suites in Deerfield.  Ok, thank you -- I am so glad I won't be surprised by this.  Maybe I can change it up...

@MerC, no he cannot stay.  How far away is your hotel?  It might not be too bad, unless you chose Chicago.

A tip: they will want some down time in the hotel room, most likely.  Bring some sleep pants or something comfy for them to lounge in.  They will also probably want a shower all by themselves, so maybe some of their favorite bath products.

Oh boy, so my son won't be able to stay the night after graduation for the weekend?  I just assumed he could :(.  Maybe I better get a hotel closer.

AntiM is correct about liberty during PIR weekend. She will also need to stay in uniform. It is important to be early getting back because not all taxis can drive on base, so she may need to walk and there is usually long lines to sign in.

Housing can take anywhere from a week to a month or two. She'll need to talk to her nmti about getting her live ashore packet completed, and then she'll have to coordinate a duty driver to get over to the housing office and do their lease paperwork and see the homes. Once she's picked a house and that's finished, they'll give her the keys and a move in date. I'm unsure if she'll qualify for DLA, which is the reimbursement to move because we didn't do that, but it's worth talking to her nmti about it, and even if it's not covered, save your receipts because any moving expenses not reimbursed can be deducted on your taxes.

She will go check in right after PIR, which takes a couple hours or so.  Then you will have Friday evening together, as well as Sat and Sun during the day.  She will have a curfew each evening, and will not be able to spend the night.  Be sure she is back early!

Not sure how long it takes to find out about housing, but it does take a couple weeks for her to get the Live Ashore chit approved.  If you are renting privately, about a month.  If you are waiting for base housing, I don't know how long the wait list is.  Do you have a car?  They prefer the Live Ashore students have transportation.

My wife grads on July 14th and then goes to A school at Great Lakes. Will she have liberty all weekend? Will she be able to stay with me at my hotel? When will we know housing and all of that?

You are correct Bandmom.

So my sons rating is ET.  He will go to A School at Great Lakes correct?

Comment by Anti M on May 22, 2017 at 8:16pm

Sorry about that, but it is essentially the same question.  Advice is the same, because there's no way to know his duty section rotation until he checks in.  If they do not want him to spend an overnight on the weekend with them, then phase two is a good time to visit.  Phase three is more desirable if he wants to spend the night off base.

Again, sorry about the misunderstanding.

Actually, this wasn't related to getting married lol. This is actually more for his family and them wanting to visit since they may not be at PIR, which is why I posted it in this group and not the other one. Thanks.
