My daughter left for basic on August 8th. I have a lot to learn about the Navy! I have learned quite a bit in a short time because of Navy Moms! I am just waiting to receive her box and form letter. Is it true that I will need to purchase a phone card and mail to her? Please share anything you can with me. Thank you! Missing my daughter. Zoey

Zoey, she can purchase one at the NEX, that's what my daughter did. My daughter suggested that she buy it before she goes to use the phone so she doesn't miss her chance to call because she is in line at the NEX.

I was going to send a phone card because of all the good advice I get from here but her recruiter don't her don't take one because they were only allowed to use certain ones. She could just get one at the NEX, I really hope that didn't cause any issues for her.

I missed my daughter's first phone call because I thought it was a telemarketer. Her first call came the second Saturday she was gone. There are many tears she'd, but knowing that I am not the only mom missing her babygirl. Stay strong for her she will need it. She went to BC in July, we have 28 days left b4 graduation. Lot of letters for her helps. You and her.

So sorry you missed her phone call!!!  That really stinks!!!  I hope she got to call you back soon after!!  I missed my daughter who went off to bootcamp in 2008, as she was the first experience I had with a daughter leaving. (My son enlisted in 2003.)  Then my next daughter left for OCS in 2012 and that was really hard!!!!  OCS is really, really tough and I sobbed just knowing what my girl was having to deal with.  But she proved to be stronger than the DI who really tried his best to get her to quit.  Our girls can really step up and be strong when they need to.  Bless all our sailor girls!!!!

That is a real fear for me. I don't want to miss my SR's call. Do they always call on weekends? Morning or evening? Went to BC on August 29th. Got,the form letter and her box but that's it so far.

My daughter also stated BC on August 29. I got my first real phone call from her last Saturday, it was around 9am. I knew to expect her call because she wrote me a letter telling me the day and time frame that she would be calling. I hope your daughter is doing well, mine is pretty homesick.

Thank you for information!

Zoey, I just saw your question and I hope you have your answer.  My daughter mailed her box and form letter to her Dad's house.  We are divorced.  I don't know if he purchased a card or not, sorry I can't answer that for you.  My daughter has PIR this Friday 25th !  It is hard to just let them go and not hear from her during this time.  We cave no control.  I did get a call when she got to Great Lakes and when she passed Battle Stations and she was a Sailor !  She did love getting the letters of support she said it made a bad day better!  She was able to write back, which I will treasure those letters forever.  A School is in CA. I plan to fly out and visit as soon as she can have me. I have missed her so much, but so proud of her and her getting through this and on to her "dream job".  Whew...so hard.  Since I got her call that She's a sailor I've been decompressing and trying to wrap around my head that all this is happening.  The support I have gotten here has been a God send and hope I can pass it on to other Moms.  Wishing your daughter much success and please don't hesitate to reach out to us !

NavyMom2017,

Congratulations to your daughter!!  Can't believe that PIR is here already!!  I'm sure to you though it seems like it has been a long time coming.  Hope you get to see all the live stream tomorrow and then get to plan that visit to your daughter real soon!!!!

They can call any time any day. My daughter usually called on Sundays but I did get a couple mid week calls. The only late night call we got was the scripted call when she arrived at boot camp. Always be prepared!
